If you stayed one week with a neighbor you don’t know well, it would not be enough time to adapt to their way of living even with instructions. Things would look familiar but the way they do things would be different than what you’re used to. Now imagine that they speak a different language than you and everytime you do something “wrong” they correct you and make your “sit” only to give you your favorite snack and then they move on with their day. lol Welcome to being a dog. lol Your dog may need less basic obedience and more simple instruction on the rules of the house they’re going to live in for the rest of their life.

If you don’t take the time to learn how a dog’s family lives, their schedules, what they actually have time for and what their current capabilities / skill level is then you’re just teaching the dog to be good with you, which basically means nothing once the dog goes back home. Learn the people first. Teach the dog second.

I think the most challenging part of working with dogs is not taking it personal. When Nova arrived she took a couple swipes at me and actually almost got me. But she was also fresh out of the shelter and now somewhere new getting handed off to someone she’s never met before. She absolutely was allowed to have her feelings. Had I taken it personal there’s no way I would’ve been able to connect with her the way I did. Even though she was only here for a short time I wholeheartedly love this dog. She’s now in Pennsylvania where her new dad sends me updates. ❤️ Thank you for trusting us with her! And her dad who I’m not sure has an instagram. 😂

It’s funny how we bring these dogs into our world and then dump them when we don’t have time for them but yet label them these unfair things knowing they will never get a chance to defend themselves and make it almost impossible for them to get adopted. Rescue dogs aren’t “broken”. We are.

They teach swim class next door so in the morning when I’m working the dogs there’s lots of people getting in and out of their cars with kids…real life stuff. Today, one of the moms saw Jack and said “He is so much calmer than he was when he got here”. My ego got a boost and so did Jack’s except Jack decided to get up and jump out of the car letting me know I was too early in the process of celebrating myself 😂😂. So what did I do when he jumped out? I didn’t say a word and I had him go back in the car and we started over. 😎

Many times, we see a dog that’s excited and doing things that bring us joy we see it as the dog is “happy”. But when that same excitement makes us nervous we can see it as “aggressive”. This is why I choose to see excitement as controlled or uncontrolled instead of “good or bad”. And if I can’t control it I don’t allow it.

When Nova arrived she came in hot so I made sure to give her space. She was showing teeth. Then tried to bite me. As I gave more space she was just dragging the handler towards me. Eventually we got her settled down enough so the transporter could leave. I think the biggest factor in working with dogs is not taking things personal. Nova is a 1 year old Malinois who arrived stressed out, under exercised, over stimulated and now being left with a me, who she has never met. I understood. Her first day here I let her just settle in and didn’t work on much. The next morning instead of “getting to training” I decided to let her burn off a little steam so I introduced her to the e bike and we went for a ride. It turns out Nova has about as much stamina as I did the night I lost my virginity. 😂. But the important thing is she got it out and now we have a fresh canvas to paint on. We are very honored to be a small part of her journey. ❤️

The dog used in "The Road Warrior" (1981), named simply "Dog", was obtained from a local dog pound and trained to perform in the film. One day before he was to be put to sleep, members of the crew visited his shelter looking for a pet to cast for the film. He was picked out from several other dogs, due to him picking up a rock off the ground and playing with it like a toy. The crew members realized the dog could have a real presence on film, and had the potential to be trained. This movie ended up being the only film in which he would appear. the sound of the engines upset him (and in one incident, caused him to relieve himself in the car), he was fitted with special earplugs. After filming was complete, he was adopted by one of the camera operators.
The dog was actually quite fond of actor Bruce Spence. For the scenes where Dog had to act aggressive toward the Gyro Captain, Spence would play with the dog, encouraging him to bite his scarf. Combined with some clever editing and overdubbed growling, this friendly tug-of-war made Dog seem much more aggressive on camera.

Her name used to be, Merryweather whose story was shared in the documentary . Her story is horrific. It will make you sad and mad at the same time. But that’s just the beginning of her story. Things take a turn for the better once and ultimately rescued her and then sent her to us to get her ready for her forever home. After months of teaching her to become a house pet she got adopted by and who we became very good friends with. These days Merryweather now goes by the name of , Bubbles. We get to see her and her other adopted sibling Bagel all the time, too! Sure, her story starts off hopeless but it absolutely ends in “happily ever after.” How lucky are we to be a small part of her journey but even luckier to be part of her family. Thank you for putting our .

Maverick is a great pack dog. Great on pack walks. He takes direction well and his recall is great! But also he’s loud. Tends to take over if not given clear direction. He requires lots of exercise, mental and physical. Oh, did I mention he’s loud? 😂 He’s also only a year old and sometimes I feel like I put too much pressure on myself because he’s a “dog tainer’s dog”. The thing is, Maverick doesn’t know I’m dog trainer nor what a dog trainer is. And the more I think about it, even if he did, I don’t think he would give a s**t. 😂 This message is brought to you Maverick who we adopted through !

Any dog that goes through our RESET program gets a year of free follow-ups . We understand that it may take some time for that connection to grow and we want to provide that support as much as possible. Plus, we get to see the dogs we work with throughout the year! Moxie and her mom stopped by earlier this week to brush up on some leash work and refreshers on dog psychology. Thankful for the humans who put in the work. 🙏🏾

I’ve been asked by to be part of their Pack Walker Summit. So today at 5pm I will be giving a lecture as a representative of and . This group is pretty damn amazing so when I got asked to be part of it I was a little unsure where I fit in and as I hear the lectures from the other members I’m less sure of what I want to talk about. 😂 So tonight I will share my story from the beginning because to fully grasp where we are now you need to know where I was then. I’m sure many of you have heard this story but I’m sure many of you haven’t so if you’re interested I will be on a zoom with at 5pm PST. Link is in bio or below!

Nobody is contacting us saying “I have no issues with my dog can you show me how to make it better?” This is true, especially for rescues. We don’t really like to highlight their problems too much because they come off as unadoptable or high maintenance. The last thing we want to do is make it sound like only a trainer can handle the dogs we work with. However, we do like to show how amazing they can be when they’re given clear directions and the right energy. Our priority isn’t to show how good we are but how great the dog is. And much like dating, we are just trying to help the rescue find a match that fits most of their needs and also to give them alternatives on the needs they might have trouble matching. This message is brought to you by Charlie who has the cutest set of ears ever. 😍 He gets a second chance at life thanks to !

We understand that no matter how much we work a dog does with us that support will be needed after the dog leaves. So whenever a dog completes our RESET program we offer 12 months of free follow up sessions. Sometimes support holds more value than training . Thanks and for your trust AND your follow through !

When I was younger I was really into fish. I had a cool fresh water aquarium and I had cichlids. They were tough fish and taking care of them was pretty easy. I just had to make sure the water stayed clean, change the filters regularly and make sure I didn’t overfeed them. Freshwater fish care seemed pretty easy. Then I set my eyes on a saltwater tank. The colors of those fish were more vibrant than the freshwater and I thought to myself that if I can take care of freshwater fish, saltwater fish couldn’t be that much harder. Boy, was I wrong . 😂. After spending a bunch of money on the set up, within a month my tank just looked like a big algae science experiment and my fish kept dying. 😩 I kept going back to the fish store thinking it was the fish. It wasn’t the fish. And the lady that owned the shop kept telling me that. 😂 It was the fact that I couldn’t keep up with the maintenance and saltwater need a lot more care than freshwater fish. For me, our pittie Diamond is like a freshwater fish. She’s beautiful , needs shorter walks and laying around all day is number one on her list. Maverick, our husky, is like a saltwater fish. He’s a lot more next level than Diamond. Laying around is in his top 10 of favorite things to do but it’s number 10 on his list. 😂 Yes, they are both dogs and their basic needs are the same but one requires “more”. The point of my story? If you want a working dog, do your research, ask people that have them what their experience is like and then ask yourself if this is something you can commit to for the next 10-12 years. This message is brought to you by Diamond and Maverick who want to remind you “the problem is not the fish”. 😂

To all potential fosters and adopters. These notes are for you.

- rescue dogs that are sent to trainers are usually dogs that need extra help in differnt areas that can be challenging for the general population.
- if a dog you’re interested in is with a trainer and the rescue asks for multiple meet n greets and you respond with “it’s too far”, “I don’t have time”, “ I know what I’m doing” or “I have plenty of experience” you are already not willing to meet this dog’s needs. This isn’t about you. This is about the dog. My son has 7 years experience. He’s also only 7. Nobody is adopting a dog to him. 😂 Trust me, the dog has no idea about your “experience” or what the word even means.
- Having a big yard means nothing and doesn’t make your “more qualified”. . Nice landscaping doesn’t make a dog better behaved. Put a husky in a big backyard with no structured exercise and all you’re doing is giving them more room to run and jump over that wall to walk themselves. 😂
- there’s a huge difference between what you had time for in the past versus what you have time for now.
- knowing your own limitations and abilities will make you a better foster than just saying “yes” because you feel bad for the dog.
- and if you can’t say “no” you have no business saying “yes” ( nod to )
- this message is brought to you by Muppet from who needs a foster or adopter but also needs his trainers to ispeak to interested people for him before he leaves.

05/17/2024

Your dog knowing “commands” doesn’t always change their behavior, especially if you’re repeating them over and over again. So here’s a couple of things to know:

- Dogs don’t understand English, Spanish, or any other language humans speak.
- Dog “see the world” in this order : Nose. Eyes. Ears. So if ears are last, why do we keep talking to them?
- All words are made up which means ANY word can mean anything to your dog. I once taught my dog that the place command was “panda” to prove my point. 😂
- Finally, I want you to practice the “W.A.I.T.” command all day today with your dog which stands for “Why Am I Talking?” 😂
