A dog shouldn’t have to misbehave to receive structure and boundaries. And if they’re not learning those things in their own home why are we correcting them for not knowing what to do outside of it. With that being said, everyone meet Starling. She has spent time with our friends so we got some good info about her from them! We are going to help fill out her dating profile and help find her forever home! She will be looking for her home through . 😎

If you are unable to drain your dog’s energy your dog will find ways to release that energy. Probably in ways you don’t want them to. Every dog has a different level of energy. It’s best to pick a dog whose energy level is just below yours which is something to think about if you are thinking about getting a working dog.

It requires a great amount of discipline to not get caught up in the story of how a dog was dumped in the mountains. But I will focus on how stepped up to give him a place to stay. And to for taking him in and trusting us with him. We have secured a foster who will be working with him while we get him readjusted to this crazy human led world. Everyone welcome, Buddy. We are going to get to know him and fill out his dating profile!

For dogs like Greta, all they need is a chance and some time. If the energies match, training becomes secondary.

If you stayed one week with a neighbor you don’t know well, it would not be enough time to adapt to their way of living even with instructions. Things would look familiar but the way they do things would be different than what you’re used to. Now imagine that they speak a different language than you and everytime you do something “wrong” they correct you and make your “sit” only to give you your favorite snack and then they move on with their day. lol Welcome to being a dog. lol Your dog may need less basic obedience and more simple instruction on the rules of the house they’re going to live in for the rest of their life.

If you don’t take the time to learn how a dog’s family lives, their schedules, what they actually have time for and what their current capabilities / skill level is then you’re just teaching the dog to be good with you, which basically means nothing once the dog goes back home. Learn the people first. Teach the dog second.

I think the most challenging part of working with dogs is not taking it personal. When Nova arrived she took a couple swipes at me and actually almost got me. But she was also fresh out of the shelter and now somewhere new getting handed off to someone she’s never met before. She absolutely was allowed to have her feelings. Had I taken it personal there’s no way I would’ve been able to connect with her the way I did. Even though she was only here for a short time I wholeheartedly love this dog. She’s now in Pennsylvania where her new dad sends me updates. ❤️ Thank you for trusting us with her! And her dad who I’m not sure has an instagram. 😂

It’s funny how we bring these dogs into our world and then dump them when we don’t have time for them but yet label them these unfair things knowing they will never get a chance to defend themselves and make it almost impossible for them to get adopted. Rescue dogs aren’t “broken”. We are.

They teach swim class next door so in the morning when I’m working the dogs there’s lots of people getting in and out of their cars with kids…real life stuff. Today, one of the moms saw Jack and said “He is so much calmer than he was when he got here”. My ego got a boost and so did Jack’s except Jack decided to get up and jump out of the car letting me know I was too early in the process of celebrating myself 😂😂. So what did I do when he jumped out? I didn’t say a word and I had him go back in the car and we started over. 😎

Many times, we see a dog that’s excited and doing things that bring us joy we see it as the dog is “happy”. But when that same excitement makes us nervous we can see it as “aggressive”. This is why I choose to see excitement as controlled or uncontrolled instead of “good or bad”. And if I can’t control it I don’t allow it.

When Nova arrived she came in hot so I made sure to give her space. She was showing teeth. Then tried to bite me. As I gave more space she was just dragging the handler towards me. Eventually we got her settled down enough so the transporter could leave. I think the biggest factor in working with dogs is not taking things personal. Nova is a 1 year old Malinois who arrived stressed out, under exercised, over stimulated and now being left with a me, who she has never met. I understood. Her first day here I let her just settle in and didn’t work on much. The next morning instead of “getting to training” I decided to let her burn off a little steam so I introduced her to the e bike and we went for a ride. It turns out Nova has about as much stamina as I did the night I lost my virginity. 😂. But the important thing is she got it out and now we have a fresh canvas to paint on. We are very honored to be a small part of her journey. ❤️

The dog used in "The Road Warrior" (1981), named simply "Dog", was obtained from a local dog pound and trained to perform in the film. One day before he was to be put to sleep, members of the crew visited his shelter looking for a pet to cast for the film. He was picked out from several other dogs, due to him picking up a rock off the ground and playing with it like a toy. The crew members realized the dog could have a real presence on film, and had the potential to be trained. This movie ended up being the only film in which he would appear. the sound of the engines upset him (and in one incident, caused him to relieve himself in the car), he was fitted with special earplugs. After filming was complete, he was adopted by one of the camera operators.
The dog was actually quite fond of actor Bruce Spence. For the scenes where Dog had to act aggressive toward the Gyro Captain, Spence would play with the dog, encouraging him to bite his scarf. Combined with some clever editing and overdubbed growling, this friendly tug-of-war made Dog seem much more aggressive on camera.
