Mountain View Humane is proud to provide free transportation to pets that live outside our immediate service area. The Hip-To-Snip Trip trucks meet the pet owners at a central location and are transported to MVH’s Spay/Neuter Clinics for their surgery. Most transports are scheduled once a month. Our mobile unit travels to remote areas for those individuals who are unable to bring their pet to our

Christiansburg clinic. If unsure of your best option, contact our office at 540.382.0222. As a regional facility, we work with a number of other organizations and shelters to provide spay/neuter within the region surrounding the clinics. If you live outside the Roanoke/Christiansburg areas, there may be an organization near you that participates in our transport program.

We hear this question ALL the time! SHOULD FEMALE ANIMALS BE SPAYED PRIOR TO THEIR FIRST HEAT CYCLE?

For the vast majority of cases, the answer is 💯YES!!! Among many other benefits, this helps to greatly reduce the chance of mammary cancer. Risk of mammary neoplasia (tumors) decreases dramatically if a pet is spayed before their first heat cycle.

Spaying before a cat’s first heat cycle can decrease their risk to 0.6%, and given that 85% of mammary tumors in cats are malignant, early spaying is immensely beneficial!

Dogs spayed before their first heat cycle have a 0.5% risk of developing mammary tumors, and dogs spayed after their first, but before their second cycle have an 8% risk. Their risk increases to 26% if spayed after their second heat cycle. We suggest early spaying in order to decrease the risk of your pet developing mammary tumors. For some giant breeds of dogs, your veterinarian may recommend postponing surgery until they are older. Please discuss this with your full-service veterinarian in order to determine the best age to spay or neuter your dog. Questions? Call us: 540-382-0222

➡ 1 in 3 family pets will get lost
➡ Microchipped dogs are more than twice as likely to be returned to their owners and microchipped cats are more than 20 times as likely to be returned to their owners

If your pet doesn't have a microchip, you can easily schedule an appointment at: https://www.mvhclinic.org/scheduling/

On , we're sharing a few important reminders on the importance of microchips - such as:

➡ 1 in 3 family pets will get lost
➡ Microchipped dogs are more than twice as likely to be returned to their owners and microchipped cats are more than 20 times as likely to be returned to their owners

And remember - while microchips greatly increase the chances that pets will be reunited with their families if they are lost or stolen…a microchip only works if its registration information is accurate.

What We Do

Mountain View Humane is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that operates the Waldron-Ricci Spay Neuter Clinic in Christiansburg. The mission of Mountain View Humane is to end pet overpopulation in Southwest Virginia and Southern West Virginia by providing affordable, high-quality spay and neuter services to the general public, while providing education on the benefits of aggressive spay and neuter programs.

Spay/neuter is a simple solution to the complex problem of the euthanasia epidemic, which destroys 4 million animals each year and is a direct result of animals left unaltered in communities. We know the love that a companion pet brings to our lives, and want to make sure everyone has the opportunity to not only have a companion pet, but provide it with the care needed. We rely solely on community support and grant funding to operate our clinic.
