Know the symptoms of Diabetes in pets

Diabetes in pets is more common than you might think:
it’s estimated that approximately 1 in 300 adult dogs and 1 in 230 cats in the U.S. will develop the disease. While diabetes can occur at any age, it’s of particular concern for senior pets—those over 7.
Early signs often go unnoticed as the disease progresses, symptoms include:
• Lethargy
• Excessive thirst
• Frequent urination
• Increased hunger
• Weight loss
• Weakness
• Cloudy eyes, especially in dogs
• Poor skin condition

This why it’s so important to have a blood test to screen your pet for diabetes when you bring him or her in for an exam. If your pet is experiencing any of the above symptoms or you have further questions about this condition, please call us at (619)585-7387

National Pet Cancer Awareness Month

One in four dogs will develop cancer during their lifetimes.
While cancer is less common in cats, it tends to be harder to detect in our feline friends.
Early detection is the key to better prognoses, so routine veterinary exams and screenings are crucial.
Your young and adult pets should see their veterinarians every year, and your senior pets should see their veterinarians twice each year.
But if your pet’s eating, sleeping or bathroom habits change suddenly, schedule an appointment as soon as you can.
