We had a great trek to upland Mecca, hitting up a field trial and opening weekend in Montana. It was a smashing success with 8 ribbons and 7 new titles over two days of trials with The Big Sky Epagneul Breton Club.

Then we carried on to hunt wild birds and especially get the young dogs on wild birds in new country and all the 5 month olds got on sharpies and we had a great time!

Thank you and SW Bretons (and especially dear friend and bro Shooter Smith). Thanks to Jake Faas for coming with and letting me handle your boy Royce to his GUN title and sharing the steering wheel along the way! Thanks also to Dane Murphy for trekking up with some newbies to check out a field trial, letting me handle your dogs, and hunting and cooking that gumbo I missed out on!

The beer was good, the birds were great, the camaraderie was unmatched. That doesn’t even count the brief stop at summer camp with George and Debbie to deliver birds and have a great dinner and conversation and a nice bed to pass the night!

All these dogs are powered by and protected by . Fixed up by dog for our number of nicks and cuts accrued along the journey.

Would appreciate a prayer for Mr Moose if ya have one in ya. Yesterday he had a seemingly nothing-burger of a bump on the door frame as he raced out to the yard to do his morning lap and stake his claim to the local stumps and corners.

Well turns out this morning he had swelling on that side of his head that we monitored as it was mild, only to see him have a bad delayed concussion like reaction where he lost voluntary movement and started twitching (like a seizure kinda). Doc’s prognosis is a likely acute head injury with further testing to come.

I’ve never seen this or experienced it (outside of my own concussions which I didn’t really see or experience in the moment). But man that stuff is scary and while Moose is resting well, I’m left with the very real question: hasn’t he done enough? Enough for me (yes)? Enough for the breed? Enough for the dog world?

If he could speak English he would say “let’s go!!” But when do I say thanks bo, you did it. Pastoral language restrains me but certain words seem like the only proper adjectives and adverbs for this lil orange dog. Send a prayer up to the big guy if ya could.

At 6 months Jake has been in the program for almost 4 months now and this is one of the outcomes to having over 50 bird contacts in the first few months of development. He is holding nearly to flush with no coercion, and freaking loves to hunt! He has a natural retrieve and is gonna make one heckuva dog as he matures!

With the two liver pups headed to Utah to live their best bird dog life, we have just two started dogs available that will be ready to roll for fall! Spike (black male) is from Buckley Creek Bretons and Tori (orange female) is from Trinity Bretons. Both are very nice young dogs with lots of promise! Spike is ready to roll now, and Tori will be in August! I’ll be all over from PA, to TN, to MT, to ND, to NE in the next couple of months and would be happy to drop off on my way!

Dogs are clicker trained, flash pointing birds, gun conditioned, collar conditioned, and questing with desire and passion in the field. PM more details.
