Vet techs are the heart of veterinary medicine! 💙 🐾

Without vet techs, doctors can’t do their jobs, clinics can’t stay open, and pets wouldn’t get the care they need. I see the compassion, skill, dedication, sacrifices and heart you pour into every patient —crying with clients, loving on their pets and dropping everything when a life hangs in the balance.

Thank you to ALL of the vet techs out there, whether you are a new grad, working in general practice (with small or large animal) in speciality, emergency, urgent care, shelter/rescue, zoo, academia or laboratory — it is because of you that animals can get the help they need !! 🙌🐶🐱💉

What is Pancreatitis?

This sudden inflammation of the pancreas—can affect both dogs and cats, sometimes with very subtle signs. Often vomiting, decreased appetite, or lethargy might be the only clues. It can range from acute to severe sometimes requiring emergency hospitalization.

Pancreatitis can have many causes but we most often see it associated with dietary indiscretion (being fed high fat foods like bacon or fast food or getting into the trash)

At our clinic, we use IDEXX Snap CPL (Canine Pancreatic Lipase) test to detect pancreatitis early, helping your pet get treatment faster and recover more comfortably🩺

Early detection = better outcomes. Don’t ignore subtle changes in your pet’s behavior!”

Heads up! You may see these green, brown, or black pod-like balls on the ground in your neighborhood at this time of the year. They are nuts from black walnut trees. The picture shows black walnuts in various sizes and stages of maturity and decay. Every part of a black walnut tree (nuts, shells, leaves, and wood) is highly toxic to dogs. The initial symptoms of black walnut poisoning include vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, and loss of appetite, followed by tremors, seizures, and jaundice. The toxins in black walnut trees can be fatal to dogs if not treated promptly. Do not attempt to use any home remedies if your dog has ingested black walnut. Time is of the essence--get your dog to a vet immediately. (More info in the comments.)

🍁Sweater weather = pet cuddle season… but don’t let fleas join the snuggle!

This time of year is peek flea season and we are seeing several patients with fleas! We recommend using veterinary approved flea/tick prevention all year long. Even indoor only pets can get fleas!— Fleas, like any other small pest (think; mosquitos, spiders ,ants etc) can easily make their way into your home and infest your pets
