Heyyyyy! We have gotten lots of new followers in the last few days and that’s awesome! Thanks for being here PLEASE KEEP SHARING and interacting. It really helps. 🧍🏾♀️🧍🏼🧍🏼♂️🧍🏻♀️🧍🏾🧍🏼♂️
Now, I feel like it’s time for a PSA and an honest truth. Everytime we share our day with our fosters tons of people suggest we keep the dogs and make them a firehouse dog permanently. Now listen, I love dogs. Anyone who knows me knows I’m ✨KIND OF✨ a dog person, and the foot traffic and animals was one of the reasons I came to the 34’s 4 years ago.
But taking day fosters at work is NOT ABOUT US HAVING A DOG AT WORK.
👀👀👀👀
I love having the dogs there, all the boys do too. But the reason we do it is to help the shelter.
Cincinnati Animal CARE is currently at 🚨230%🚨capacity for dogs. I don’t know how good you guys are at math but um…. That math isn’t mathing. That means they have dogs in offices, in garages and they are all totally swamped. THEY NEED HELP.
The thing about Engine 34 is….that you can always get a tour. Stop in. I’ll offer to let your kid hold an axe. He will love it. You have a flat tire? Here, we’ll help you change it. Is your kid in the hospital? We can bring you dinner, Cincinnati Children's Hospital is right down the street. Ah man. Locked your keys in the car? Well…..we really aren’t supposed to but- let me get the stuff my driver is really good at getting in and he’ll help you.
We should help our community whenever we see a need, and right now the shelter, which is in our neighborhood, has a huge need. We can’t keep a dog permanently, but we have space and we have downtime, so this is a really easy way for us to help. But it’s bigger than just us taking the foster, and it’s the reason this page exists…. For awareness. People can’t help in ways they don’t know exist.
What I mean is when someone sees us outside the firehouse with a dog and they say “oh you have a firehouse dog!” And we say “it’s actually a foster, we take one once a week just for the day and it really helps the shelter, anyone can do it!” And they say “wow I didn’t know they did that that’s awesome I will look into doing that myself”
That’s the plan. That’s how this whole thing works. We spread the word, we help one dog have one good day, one at a time, and hopefully one by one we clear out the shelter.
So, let’s get more people doing it! Have you ever done a day foster? Let us know! Share a picture! Post about the dog and tag us so we can see. We will share it and hopefully we can bust em out one at a time.
So, the pictures below are why we’re doing it. Having a dog around is cool, but we can’t let the shelter stay like this. The dogs are cramped and the humans working and volunteering at the shelter and drowning. Let’s work together to change it.
