Today was sale day and move out day at Ohio State - Butler County 4-H Butler County Fair. She had a great last year as a 4Her. We move into Ohio State Fair Wednesday for her official last fair as a 4H member. I’m sad but also so thankful for all the friends made and great times had! I guess it’s all dog shows and dog sports now! I want to thank everyone who has ever helped us with her years in 4H! From her advisors, to her fellow members to the team down at Wm E Fagaly & Son, Inc. & to the buyers, judges & strangers that jump in to help! Everyone has been so helpful and supportive! Anyone that has kids should get them involved in 4H! There are so many activities and projects that don’t even involve animals. Just look into it!

Oh it’s National Rescue Dog Day? Let me tell you about my rescues!

Kassie- ~8 year old pitty mix rescued by Bobs mom at the SPCA. She’s a sweet girl with a silly personality. She’s a little moody at times but she’s been through a lot.

Izzy- ~10 year old shepherd mix that was found running the street of Harrison. She’s my heart dog and loves me with her entire being.

Hunter Hound Dog- Is now over the rainbow bridge. Bloodhound/lab mix. She was a puppy from an abandoned pregnant dog a friend found. She was the best girl and such a wonderful dog for Savannah to grow up with. She was definitely gone too soon 💔

This is a little discouraging for the American Breed rabbit falling from WATCH to THREATENED on the Livestock Conservancy list.
It means the breeders of the American Breed should make it a point to register more rabbits every year because this is the number they go by.
A rabbit can be registered by an ARBA registrar as long as it conforms to the breed standard as listed in the Standard of Perfection guidebook which one purchases from ARBA. Once registered it will get a tattoo in its right ear. You can usually expect a registrar to be present at most ARBA shows.

Some of the problems we want to breed out are:
- white or mismatched toenails on blue rabbits
- white spots on blue rabbits
- not making senior weight; does 10-12 lbs., bucks 9-11 lbs.
Be mindful of these to start and your herd will be on its way.

2024 Conservation Priority List

Changes to The Livestock Conservancy’s Conservation Priority List (CPL) for 2024 include two heritage breeds graduating off the list and others improving to new classifications. The CPL will officially be announced next week, so members of The Livestock Conservancy get a sneak peek at these changes:

Rabbits:

American – Falling from Watch to Threatened

Argent Brun – Improving from Threatened to Watch

Beveren – Falling from Recovering to Watch

Blanc de Hotot – Improving from Critical to Threatened

Checkered Giant – Improving from Threatened to Watch

Crème D’Argent - Improving from Threatened to Watch

Giant Chinchilla – Falling from Watch to Threatened

Rhinelander – Improving from Watch to Recovering

Silver – Improving from Critical to Threatened

Silver Marten – Significantly Improving from Critical to Recovering, leaping two classifications!

We moved this years market turkeys and their chick buddies out to the grow out coop. They’re all growing up so fast. We also have a Narragansett turkey hen laying on about 10 eggs that should hatch in about a week or so! Excited for this summer!
