It's dog licence renewal time! Did you know that getting a dog licence is not only the law in Hamilton County it is essentially a donation to the Hamilton County Shelter? The money collected helps keep them running! It also works as an ID if your dog gets lost. Deadline is 1/31/24 for 2024 licences, it's only $19.
Since starting out this Spring we have boarded-to-rehome 1 dog, fostered 4 dogs & 4 kittens, given free/reduced cost assessments/training to 3 rescue dogs, and had 12 rescue dogs to stay for 66 days of reduced cost daycare and boarding!

Intake at the county shelter doesn’t stop just because it’s the holidays. If you want to give back this festive season, try giving a Cincinnati Animal CARE animal a little break from shelter life with your family.
Any help from volunteers is also welcome so that the shelter staff can also spend more time at home with their loved ones.

Ginger is a 3 year old, female, 53lb lab/catahoula/whippet mix-up (probably, maybe). Very loving. She is UTD on shots and spayed. Good with chickens. Lives with cats alright but thinks chasing them is fun. Fine with male dogs, dislikes female dogs. On prozac for anxiety (aren't we all).
She was adopted from StrayHaven a year ago and this has been a hard decision for the owner as she's cared for deeply, but unfortunately she has had a permanent falling out with another resident dog. She's on the wait list to go back into foster with the rescue but it would be great if she could go straight to her new home. Contact Linda Reichel for more information about this brown eyed gal! Out of respect for the situation the owner was in at the time I waited to post about foster #4. Kane is a pitsky puppy who was emergency boarded with us as his owner had lost their home. It had been difficult for them to keep up with his needs and he was underweight, had fleas and needed a vet checkup. Cincinnati Animal CARE's community support team were fantastic and got him in to see their medical team. Unfortunately despite our wish to reunite Kane with his owner, after receiving no communication from them for over a month he was declared legally abandoned. A shelter is no place for a puppy so we decided to keep him with us. Three months after he arrived he's now 8 months old, healthy and has started to grow!

Small dogs (under 45lbs projected adult weight) can be fixed at 6 months. Larger dogs (over 45lbs projected adult weight) can be fixed when they’ve stopped growing, around 6-18 months. Females should ideally be fixed before their first heat.
Macchi started out life at a breeders, where she had at least one C-section. Once the breeder was done with her she was given away for free to another owner, who then unfortunately tried to sell her unspayed for a profit once they got into difficult circumstances.
Macchi was spayed today at UCAN Nonprofit Spay/Neuter Clinic. Thank you to Smith's Pit STOP for sponsoring her spay, Libby Power-Leybman for organising it, and https://www.facebook.com/SNBCINCY/ for stepping up for this dog and bringing her to us. Thanks to the help of these two amazing non-profits and a little gang of people we will make sure she is never used for money again ❤

She is a 50lb Exotic Bully, 3 years old & a ball of sunshine. Seriously, she’s always happy. Can you imagine coming home to this face? 🌞🌞🌞. Her owner rescued her from a breeder and is heartbroken to give her up. She was her registered ESA.
She adores people, a very family friendly little dog. Rarely vocal, low energy. She'd be no problem with someone who works long hours, she adores snuggling in her crate and is perfectly content with a cute little trot up the block once or twice a day. Honestly you should see her little run it’s so sweet. No yard needed. A happy co-exister with other dogs, but selective. Belly rub lover. She is up to date on all her shots, and her spay is sponsored and booked for 9/12.
