This day to honor our cherished pets, observed annually on August 28th, is a beautiful reminder of the deep bond we share with our animal companions and the promise of a hopeful reunion. Who waits for you at the Rainbow Bridge and how do you remember them?

Please welcome Amanda to our aftercare team! Amanda has an undergraduate degree in psychology. She wanted to better understand, better communicate and connect with both people and animals. Her passion led her to work at the Cincinnati Zoo for 20 years. Amanda was a client of Angel’s Paws before joining us this year. She feels privileged to be a part of such an amazing organization and be able to help and serve both people and their beloved pets. Amanda is married and they have a Mastiff named Bear. While the article doesn’t explicitly address cat’s being able to ‘know’ what happened to their companion, being able to say “goodbye” to a pet in the home, is more than just for the humans. Home euthanasia allows all pets in the home to pay their respects, and not have to wonder why a fellow housemate left the house one day and didn’t return. How have your pets grieved a loss?

Researchers from Oakland University surveyed hundreds of cat caregivers and found that cats exhibited behaviors associated with grief after a fellow cat or dog in the household died.

Tribute Thursday ❤🐾🌈 "Cali was more than just a dog. She was family. She rescued me even though she came from a shelter. I didn't know I needed a dog in my life at that time. She was a constant with unconditional love and to lick my tears after every heart break. She changed my life by seeing what it was like to love another living creature you'd do anything for them. Once I saw how amazing she was, I started in the world of dog rescue. I helped with pit bull advocacy, education and legislation, then helped with rescuing pit bulls mainly, but then turned to all different kinds of animals. Cali was the best pittie ambassador and I loved taking her to events to change people's minds. She never knew a stranger. She loved all humans and animals. A very gentle, kind, loving soul. She made my heart bigger and my need for charity work and helping others grew. I became a nurse and she visited hospice patients. I am BEYOND thankful to have had her by my side for over 16 of her 19 years, but it's never enough. Cali took a piece of my heart with her. I will never forget her and I know she'll be waiting for me one day. My Cali O'Malley I will love you always and thank you for your love, loyalty, and the brightness you brought into mine and so many other lives. You are so missed! 💔❤️🐾🌈"

We are delighted to welcome Quinton to our aftercare team! While he has worked in many industries from being an electrician to working at a law firm, he found his calling supporting pet parents at the most difficult time. He is a cat dad, but loves any fur baby he can spend time with. Quinton likes to go hiking, play guitar, and watch movies with his wife and cats.

Testimonial, "I can say firsthand how amazing Bradley is! We had to make the difficult decision this past Monday, for our sweet boy Buddy to cross the rainbow bridge. His gentle soul and playful nature endeared him to everyone he met, and his unwavering loyalty was a constant source of comfort for us all. We are grateful for the many adventures we shared with him.
When we made the call to Angel's Paws, Bradley was the one who came to our house. She was so kind, patient, and loving, not only with Buddy, but with my husband and I as we grieved this decision and loss of our fur baby. She took her time to make sure we were ready. He went so peacefully on his bed at home with my husband and I giving him all the love and reassurance that he will soon be pain free. Bradley eased all our concerns and answered all our questions without hesitation. She made our decision and the process just a little bit easier. She allowed us time alone with him after he passed and that allowed time for our dog Claire to say her final goodbyes. The little extra touches that were incorporated were all so special. It made us emotional that a company cared this much. We will be forever grateful! We will never forget your kindness. Thank you! We miss you Buddy ♥️🌈🐾"

Tribute Thursday ❤🐾🌈 "We were so blessed to spend 16.5 years with our sweet boy, Benny. He was the best snuggle buddy and brought many smiles to us. He loved his human family, but he loved his sister, Nikki, so much. They were inseparable and often made us laugh sharing 1 small bed, even though they had their own and large dog beds. Angel's Paws helped us with Nikki last June and again with our sweet Benny this June. We loved them both and miss them! Benny's last year was filled with extra love since he was an only dog now and went on many adventures with us from stealing the show at our daughter's graduation party to camping to a whole photo shoot. We love you both ❤️"

Welcome Bradley to our team! Bradley is a Registered Vet Tech who grew up with a passion and love for animal care & service. After graduating from University of Cincinnati's Vet Tech program in 2001, she worked in a small animal hospital for 20+ years before joining Angel's Paws. She says, "Joining this amazing team and being able to provide families comfort and care at this stage in their beloved pets journey is heart warming and meaningful". Bradley enjoys spending time with her husband, 2 daughters, 2 dogs and 3 cats. They adventure into nature by off roading with our Jeep and 4-wheel drive groups. We are so happy to have you with us, Bradley!

Carey Rennekamp and her best furiend Bella, a Shih Tzu-Poodle mix, had been volunteering with local rescues for the last ten years, taking pups from “down and out” to the life they deserve through fostering and raising awareness. Their experiences inspired them to launch Ruff To Royalty, a story-telling platform that aims to educate, inspire and entertain dog lovers in our community with a focus on behind the scenes foster life. Together they fostered 49 dogs.

In the fall of 2023, Carey’s 16-year-old soulmate Bella’s kidney disease grew progressively worse. It was decided it would be best to take time off from fostering and Carey enrolled Bella with Angel’s Paws to make her last few months as comfortable as possible. They went on bucket list adventures and Carey even got a special tattoo (her first!) to honor Bella. They used Ruff to Royalty to share the highs and the lows of their final months together. After Bella’s passing, she invited followers to join a Facebook live to honor Bella. She candidly shared the experience of her “goodbye” with honesty, emotion and even the laughter that we all need in grieving.

Watch “Remembering Bella” and learn about Carey’s experience with Angel’s Paws Pet Parent Peace of Mind hospice program: https://fb.watch/qTkEqY_l_X/

And please consider supporting Bella’s legacy by following Ruff to Royalty and supporting Carey and her fosters looking for furever homes.

Certified dog trainer Lisa Desatnik, CPDT-KA, FFCP, FDM, CPBC, of So Much PETential incorporates the kindest, most humane and scientifically sound strategies into helping pet parents solve and prevent pet behavior problems. She offers individualized training to help families with puppy raising, leash and manners skills, preparing families that include a dog for life with a baby or toddler, managing kids and dogs, support for behavior issues such as fear, anxiety and reactivity.

“Whatever the pet issue, it can be tough sometimes for caregivers. I see myself as their and their pet’s partner and coach, supporting them, being a good listener and puzzle solver, “Lisa told us. “Over and over, I get to see animals who were shut down, avoiding interaction, having greater quality of life. I see people having less stress with their non-human companions. I see puppies grow in positive ways. I see relationships grow. That is what I find so fulfilling out this work.”

In addition to her private training, Lisa is a regular writer of pet topics in local lifestyle magazines and has been a frequent guest on WCPO’s Cincy Lifestyle Show. She hosts classes and talks on a variety of pet topics at the Wyoming Civic Center throughout the year, including some specifically for children.

Lisa has launched a podcast titled “Lives Touched by Pets”, a friendly personable podcast to inspire and educate. Some episodes will have you laughing, celebrating. Others will give you reason to pause, reflect and feel understood. Her first 2 episodes feature our owner & founder, Tammy Wynn, about pet hospice.

Testimonial Tuesday❤🐾🌈 "Dear Angel's Paws, When a friend first mentioned that I'd love your service, I must admit, I thought it was a little odd. But now, I truly understand why they said so!

I can't express enough how wonderful you, Sophie, and your entire team are. It's as if Sophie was born to do this merciful work. Leading up to our appointment, we were filled with dread and heartache. We tried to make every moment count, packing the week with treats, walks, stories, and massages. Despite our efforts, the dread persisted until Sophie arrived.

From the moment Sophie walked in, her calming energy was palpable. Her explanations put my daughter and me at ease, and even our dogs seemed to sense her calming presence. Boo, in particular, was at ease, eagerly enjoying his last moments with his favorite treats.

His passing was peaceful and beautiful, exactly as we had hoped. No stressful car rides or cold exam rooms—just Boo, surrounded by love, in his familiar surroundings. While I'll forever miss my boy, I'm comforted by the warmth and love of his passing.

I'm grateful that my other pets were able to be with Boo, both before and after his passing. Their understanding made the transition easier for all of us, though we still find ourselves missing him dearly.

I would wholeheartedly recommend your services to any pet owner facing end-of-life decisions. Knowing that Boo left this world in the best possible way—surrounded by love, in his home, and in caring hands—brings me immense peace. Thank you for everything you do. Your service is invaluable and deeply appreciated.

Warm regards, Boo's loving family"

Tribute Thursday ❤🐾🌈 "Our sweet boy - the Fresh Prince of East Oakley – you were a most dapper man in your charcoal-and-white tuxedo. You were with us for almost 18 years - gave us a lot of laughs and some winces! You tolerated nail clipping but not pill-giving, as well as the many variations on your name, from Nately to the Fresh Prince! And you fit so many of those MUTTS cartoons – especially about eating in the wee hours of the night. You are greatly missed by the whole family – the four-legged ones as well as we two-legged cats. Stay fresh, Sir Nate!"

Tribute Thursday ❤🐾🌈 "Pumpkin was found outside on Halloween night. She was covered in leaves, dirt, everything! I snuck her home and begged for my parents to keep her. They declined, and said that we would try and find her owners. A couple days later, the owners ended up being her foster. She was available for adoption, so that put us in a position where there was an option, and I had a whole lot of convincing to do.. Two days after finding her, my aunt was killed. My aunt was an animal lover, she rescued, she adopted, and she genuinely cared so much for animals. And Pumpkin was sent from my aunt. And we all knew it. Sooo, we kept her, and she lived the best life a dog could ever live. She was so funny, and had so many quirks about her. She would tippy tap her feet when she was excited, and she had an unhealthy obsession with food, in true beagle fashion. She was overall an amazing dog, she was so sweet, and never met a stranger. She was so loved, and she will be so missed. I know that my aunt has her now, and will continue to care for her the way we did. Thank you so much for everything you all did for us, as hard as the situation was, it couldn’t have gone any better". Pumpkin Gessendorf ~ 11/1/2012 to 3/14/2024

Lorrie Huegel is a past client of Angel’s Paws and a friend to our Military & Police K-9’s. She is competing in the IRONMAN 70.3 Triathlon in Chattanooga, TN in May while raising awareness and money for our Angel's Watch Military & Police Dog fund. Racing for a cause is her motivation to get to the finish line, knowing she has not only challenged herself, but helped an important cause through her journey there.

Lorrie and her husband, David, have special places in their hearts for Angel’s Paws, as we provided end-of-life care for two of their mastiffs, Ripley and Worf. Our associated non-profit, Angel’s Watch, has a fund specifically to help our working or retired military, police and public service K9’s in the greater Cincinnati area, receive this care with dignity and respect and at no charge to their partners. With her dedication, and your generous support, we will help many local K-9’s go from pain to peace!

Learn more about Lorrie’s journey and cause here: https://www.angelswatch.ngo/lorrie

*Lorrie is also hosting a fundraiser Saturday, April 6th 2-5pm at O'Bryon's Bar & Grill in Newport! RSVP here: https://www.angelswatch.ngo/store/obryons

Tribute Thursday ❤🐾🌈 "Chewbacca Louis... Our bubba... our baby, our love. What a bright shining star in the sky you were on this earth. You were the most stubborn little man with the biggest personality and we loved every single one of those quirky things that made you who you were. From the moment you jumped into your daddy's arms when we first laid eyes on you, we knew you were meant to be ours. Your love for us, your love for snuggling, for looking out the window as our protector thinking you were a 100 lb dog in the body of an 18 lb guard dog, your love for rotisserie chicken and cheese, peanut butter and all your friends: Gnomey, Foxy, Hedgie the Hog, Dumb Dumb. They're all over the rainbow bridge with you now along with your big sister Annie and your big brother Mickey. You were the heart and soul of us, and of our home and we will always keep you alive in our hearts. We love you forever and always baby boy, please continue to watch over us and send us your amazing signs."

Tribute Thursday ❤🐾🌈
"Ode to Snickers:
We had a little dog whose name was Snickers.
She had a furry friend smile, a happy tail, and a very active licker.
She was a special little girl, the kind of dog that is more like a human than an animal.
Splendid behavior was the best part of many days.
God gave her to us for almost sixteen and half years. She was a true blessing.
Snickers was a big part of a big part of our family. She was family and will be extremely missed.
She loved her family and friends. Loved her bones and sniglets.
She is irreplaceable. She will never be forgotten, but always missed.
See you on the other side, our little princess."

Tribute to one of our own Angels, Neila ❤🐾🌈
"Sweet Neila came to our family when she was already 7 years old. From the moment we met her she was a caregiver to us all. Watching and adapting to how she could best give comfort and connection to each individual need. She automatically knew how to relate differently to individuals with different needs. Her soul was so so big and she was a natural therapy dog. She was always near when she was needed and knew just how to make everyone feel better. She not only took care of our family, but also was a regular visitor to a long term care center, bringing love, comfort and laughter to seniors and their families and has a special affinity for those living with dementia. She then cared for the grieving here at Angel's Paws, always on alert when she was there for those in need of her warm head on their knee, precious "glen sit" and soulful eyes.

Neila was my soul walking outside my body on her four furry feet. She is missed terribly this side of heaven. Her favorite singer was Nat King Cole and she always found peace and comfort in his voice. His song, "Unforgettable" was playing when she gained her wings in the presence of family and her Angel's Paws pack. Neila, unforgettable... that's what you are...unforgettable though near or far."
