Update: Paprika has been adopted! Thank you everyone!

We have a very cute little kitten available for adoption at Howell Avenue Pet Hospital. Everyone say hello to Paprika!

Paprika is a 9-week old female - she had received her first round of shots, dewormed, and tested negative for FIV and FELV! Although she looks very comfortable in this picture, Paprika is a little nervous about being here and would be much happier in a home. She would do well in a home with other cats who can teach her the ropes, but may not do well in a home with small children as she can be a little feisty😁

If you are interested in adopting Paprika, visiting, or have any other questions, please give us a call at 513-221-3404, or send us an email at [email protected]
Thank you!

Howell Avenue Pet Hospital will be CLOSED this Thursday July 4th. Please plan accordingly if you need to pick up medication or prescription food. If you feel like your pet would benefit from a sedation medication to help with firework/noise anxiety, please call our office! Here are some other tips to help our pets through this celebration:

1. Keep your pets inside during fireworks.
2. Provide a safe, secure, and quiet area.
3. Exercise your pet earlier in the day - tire them out with a nice long walk or extra playtime so they can rest easier.
4. Provide vet approved pet safe sedation.
5. Make sure your pet is wearing a collar with up-to-date ID tag and up-to-date microchip info.
6. Do not leave out human food, alcohol, party trash, or firework remnants.

05/23/2024

We will be closed briefly from 11:30AM-12:30PM for a staff meeting. Please leave a voicemail or send an email and we will follow-up with you ASAP. The building will still be open if you need to stop in for anything. Thank you for understanding!

Howell Avenue Pet Hospital will be CLOSED this coming Monday 5/27/24 in observance of Memorial Day. Please plan accordingly if you are in need of pet medication or prescription food. In the event of a medical emergency, please contact MedVet Cincinnati, Care Center Vets, Grady Veterinary Hospital, or Veterinary Emergency Group.

As we approach summer, please reach out to our office if your pet experiences fear/anxiety due to fireworks or loud noises. We can help make these holidays easier.

We hope everyone has a happy and safe Memorial Day weekend!

UPDATE: Reba has been adopted! Thank you everyone who took interest in her and/or shared her post!

Say hello to Reba! This wonderful little girl is available for adoption. We found homes for all of her kittens, so now it is her turn for a happy forever home.

Everything about Reba is adorable - but especially how little she is. She is fully grown, but could be mistaken for a kitten. She is a little over a year old, spayed, fully vaccinated, and tested negative for FIV/FELV.

If you would like to meet her, she will be in the office today and tomorrow (1/31 & 2/1), and other TBD dates. Stop by anytime!

UPDATE: No owner located - Poppy has been adopted!

Do you recognize me? I was found on Ravine Street in Clifton.

Young female cat, very sweet and affectionate, and was found with the collar pictured. No microchip. If you have any information, please contact us at Howell Avenue Pet Hospital. Kitty is safe with us for the time being. Please share this post so that we can broaden our search for this little girl's owner.

Our friend Squeaky is enjoying his time with his foster mom, but would be much more comfortable in a forever home. We are hoping to find a permanent home for him soon. Squeaky does have some special needs, but they are greatly outweighed by how sweet and silly and he is. And he will happily "help" you fold the mountain of laundry you've been avoiding! Here he is, making his biscuits, feeling pretty good about himself. If you have room in your laundry basket for this charming little dude, please reach out to us at Howell Avenue Pet Hospital.

Every year, it seems we have a special friend who is looking for a home for the holidays - This year is no different!

Say hello to Squeaky! This sweet boy has had quite the journey, and would love to find a forever home for the holidays. Squeaky has been a patient of HAPH for several years, but was surrendered to us by his previous owner. We would love to give this sweet boy a second chance at a happy life with a family that can accommodate some of his needs.

Squeaky has some gastrointestinal issues (kitty IBS) that require him to be on a special prescription fiber increased diet. His gastro issues are 100% under control, as long as he sticks to this diet (otherwise he has bouts of diarrhea). He eats Royal Canin Fiber Response, and he loves it! Squeaky is what we consider a "social eater"; He loves to chow down while hanging out with a human friend. Squeaky would do best with someone who works from home, or is home often as he gets lonely without a human friend. He LOVES attention and would love nothing more than to sit next to you all day. He would not do well in a home with a large or energetic dog, or a home with lots of other cats. Squeaky is about 6 years old, neutered, current on all vaccines, and tested negative for FIV/FELV.

If you have room under your Christmas tree for another gift, let us know. Squeaky is currently being fostered by our practice manager Erin B., who would be happy to bring him into HAPH for a meet and greet!

Hello! For Christmas this year, Howell Avenue Pet Hospital is asking for donated used towels! Do you have towels you plan to get rid of? Please send them our way! We will take any towels of any size/material, but have an immediate need for standard sized bath towels.

Thank you and we hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday season.

We will be closed this Thursday November 23 for Thanksgiving. We hope everyone has a lovely and safe holiday!

We are in the middle of celebrating Veterinary Technician Appreciation Week! This is a special week that is celebrated annually in the veterinary field to show thanks and appreciation to our wonderful and hardworking vet techs.

Big "THANK YOU!" to Rana (who has been with HAPH since 2011!!!), Brandy, Akasha, Tina, Julia, and Erin M. for everything you do for our team, and our patients and their owners.

Our veterinary technicians, or “vet techs” work under the direct supervision of our veterinarians, and wear many hats. They administer vaccinations, collect specimens and perform laboratory procedures, provide specialized nursing care, prepare animals, instruments, and equipment for surgical procedures, monitor patients under anesthesia and assist veterinarians during anesthetic/surgical procedures, perform x-rays, run our in-hospital pharmacy, and perform dental prophylaxes. They also assist in pet owner education and field all kinds of questions and phone calls.

And we wouldn't be able to do any of this without them! Thank you to our wonderful team, and thank you to all of our clients for your continued support!

10/17/2023

UPDATE: Our technical issues are resolved!

We are experiencing software issues today. We will be unable to pull up client accounts, schedule appointments, refill medications, or process invoices until further notice. We are still here to answer your phone calls and emails, and you can stop in to pick up items (we will just process your payment once our system is back up). We will update you once our system is back up!

Howell Avenue Pet Hospital would like to take a moment and show some appreciation for our wonderful team of veterinary assistants! Veterinary Assistant Appreciation Week is celebrated nation-wide during the last week of July. Our veterinary assistants provide unique and valuable services, and fill an indispensable role that supports every other person and pet within our hospital.

Big THANK YOU to Savannah, Erin, Amanda, Kirsten, and Alyssa for all your hard work day in and day out. You help keep our hospital clean and organized, and our patients comfortable and happy (and so much more!). A special thank you to former vet assistant Julia, who has made the transition to our technician department, but is still heavily involved in supporting our assistants.

Thank you and happy Veterinary Assistant Appreciation Week!

We have two little girls still available for adoption. Sorrel and Lavender are 13 week old sisters, and they wanted us to tell Facebook that they would like to be adopted together, if possible.

If you'd like to visit the girls or fill out an adoption application, please contact our office. Until then, Sorrel and Lavender will be patiently waiting for their new friends!

We are experiencing phone and internet outages, but we have power. If you call, you will not get through and you will not be able to leave a voicemail. Best way to reach us is via email - we will address all emails as soon as internet is restored.

We have six kittens up for adoption! They will be visiting the office every Thursday and Friday. Give us a call or stop in if you’d like to visit to potentially adopt – other arrangements can be made for other days of the week upon request.

These kittens have a special story. One of our staff members had been taking care of a stray semi-feral female cat in Kentucky – we were able to trap her, and upon exam, discovered she was heavily pregnant. We named her Sage, and we have fostered her and her SIX kittens ever since! Sage has been an excellent mother (and has been adopted by our staff!), and so now it is time for her kittens to find their furever homes.

All six kittens have tested positive for FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus). The kittens inherited FIV from mama Sage who most likely contracted it defending herself from other outdoor stray FIV+ cats. FIV+ cats can live completely normal and healthy long lives – they may need more frequent dental procedures as they get older as FIV most commonly impacts dental health. Below is a great article by the Humane Society about FIV+ cats.

https://www.humanesociety.org/news/fiv-positive-cats

We currently have 6 kittens – three boys and three girls! They were born on April 18th, 2023, so they are all about 9 weeks old. Information about each kitten is listed on their picture. All kittens have been dewormed and have had their first round of vaccines. Each kitten is super sweet, silly, and will be a wonderful friend to you and your family! We always recommend adopting kittens in pairs when possible – that way they have a lifelong playmate!

Basil –male, outgoing
Chicory – male, silly
Dill – male, friendly
Lavender – female, playful
Saffron – female, sweet (Sorrel’s twin)
Sorrel – female, shy (Saffron’s twin)

We are celebrating National Veterinary Receptionist Appreciation Week as well as National Administrative Professionals Appreciation Day! This week occurs annually during the last week of April. Our hospital would not be functional without our dedicated, knowledgeable, and compassionate client service representative team. They are more than "just receptionists", they are the bridge that connects all aspects of our hospital - and that is a big and important job!

Big thank you to Bobbie, Josie, Maddie, and Megan for all your hard work here at Howell Avenue Pet Hospital. We appreciate and acknowledge all that you do for our clients, patients, staff, and community!

Update: Owners found! 💜

**Courtesy Post**

Do you recognize either of these two dogs? They were found running in the streets on the West Side. One is male, one is female, both appear to be Jack Russell terrier mixes. Neither have microchips.

They are safe and sound with a Good Samaritan, and are doing well. Because of the ongoing outbreak at Cincinnati Animal Care, they cannot be taken to the shelter. Please reach out to us if you have any information! Thank you!

All of the staff at Howell Avenue Pet Hospital would like to wish Beth and Linda from next door at Petey's Pet Stop a happy retirement! And a big congratulations to Jackie and her husband - the new owners of Petey's Pet Stop! Their groomers are top notch (Jackie included!), and we always encourage a fun trip next door to Petey's after a vet visit for a treat and new toy. We can't wait to see the continued evolution of Petey's under new ownership. Congratulations to all!
