October Group Class Schedule!

For October we are doing our first round of themed group classes! We are very excited to try out some of these new ideas!

Wednesday, October 2nd 6:30pm ~ Pack walk at Pennington park! We will be meeting outside of the dog park entrance! Bring water for your dogs, a heeling leash, and plenty of treats!

Saturday, October 12th 12:00pm ~ Hiking at Amico Island State Park. This class will be more centered around dogs minding their manners even when not in a formal obedience command! Bring water and a long line (15-25 feel) for your dogs!

Saturday, October 26th 12:00pm ~ learning directionals at Complete K9 Services Training center! Liz will be going over the foundation of how to teach your dog to send your dog to a “target” (place cot) away from you!

Wednesday, October 30th 6:30pm ~ Halloween costume contest! Bring your pups to class in their spookiest attire! The dog who wins the costume contest will win 15 free maintenance training days!

This is a video from August the Dutch Shepherd’s board and train back in May. August had a history of fighting his handler over muzzling him, regardless of what food or high value treats were used to motivate him to put his nose into the muzzle. In this video we are teaching August how to solve low level Ecollar pressure by putting his nose in the muzzle. This created a reliable “muzzle” command that allowed us to not get confrontational with August! August and his owner recently came in for some follow up training and I was extremely happy to see how well August’s owner maintained his training, especially for such a drivey, challenging dog! Our Training Apprentice, Avery free-shaping an object hold with his pup Delilah. Free-shaping is an exercise in which the dog has to figure out the correct behavior that will bring on a reward, with little to no help from the handler. This type of exercise creates a dog who will be able to think and problem solve, and creates a strong motivation for the shaped behavior, since the dog believes it was their invention. In this session not only did we improve Delilah’s object hold, we also helped teach her skills that will help her navigate future challenges!
