Senior mare "Astraea" has made an amazing comeback in the last 2 months.

On November 4 she came to us: emaciated, with severe projectile diarrhea and bloody nasal discharge. When she laid down the first night in the round pen, we didn't know that she would pull through and get back up.

We did know that she wouldn't survive a trip to the vet. Luckily, Lazy 3 Animal Clinic allowed us to bring in blood samples to run in house and also to send off to Texas A&M. Huge shout-out to this amazing clinic for never hesitating to help!

She was diagnosed right away with anemia and a low grade infection/inflammation. A few days later, the blood work came back with a bad case of salmonella.

After several weeks of alfalfa, different feeds, electrolytes, red cell, clay supplements, countless bottles of Kaopectate, and diligent blanketing, Astraea is out of the woods and enjoying her life again!

Still needs dirt work and interior work, but we are very happy with it!

Winter is coming slowly but surely! More stalls are going up so everybody will be warm and comfy!

These will be 10 by 18 each with a 10 by 20 paddock attached, and optional access to several acres of "horsey playground!"

The first set of permanent feeding stations / summertime shelters for the bigger herd is up!

This will ensure that each herd member can take their time eating their individual feed, as well as chose to get out of the sun or rain.

Everybody caught on quickly and loves the setup!

Vacation is over!

The new round pen is up, and our youngsters will go back to school!
We are starting with the basics of leading, lunging, catching, and desensitizing, in order to give these rescues a fighting chance at becoming good citizens.

We love Before & After's!
Seeing these horses' transformations is so rewarding!

Betty was a kill pen save this past summer. She was barely a year old when we met her.
As sick, lethargic, and malnourished she was, she was rushed to Equine Sports Medicine & Surgery immediately.

She spent several weeks in ICU, not knowing if she was going to pull through. But she did! She's a fighter! Thank you to the doctors who made her progress possible!!

Look at this beautiful coming 2 year old now! She is full of life now, and she will be long term boarding here with her new buddies until she finds her perfect forever home!

Another Before & After:

This momma and baby pair were the slowest to gain weight, but they have come a long way now!

The first picture was taken upon arrival to quarantine. The second picture was this week before departure into her new home.

Momma is an older mare who is nursing a baby on top of being malnutritioned herself. Baby caught strangles at the kill pen and needed lots of nutrition to fight that.

But, they are healthy now and made huge gains! They are on their way to California to live out the rest of their lives well cared for!

Our first guests got to their new home safely!

All four were slaughter bound horses who an amazing client in California saved just a few hours before shipping to Mexico.

After several weeks of rehab with the vet they got to unwind here at Bavaria Equine & Oddities.
Afterwards, we delivered them to their new home where they will be pampered and spoilt rotten!

It was a beautiful day for our rescues' daily hike from the pond to the hay.
