We are heartbroken to hear of the passing of Animal Control Officer Ruben Hernandez. He was amazing and did so much for the animals of Citrus Heights. He will be missed and never forgotten. π
It is our unfortunate duty to share heartbreaking news. Yesterday, we were notified of CHPD's Senior Animal Services Officer Ruben Hernandez's unexpected passing on Sunday, September 1, 2024.
As a Supervising Animal Control Officer with Sacramento County, Ruben was exceptionally skilled in investigating animal cruelty cases, and the handling and calming of aggressive dogs. Ruben brought that knowledge and experience to our community when he joined the City of Citrus Heights team as an Animal Services Officer in April 2012. Rubenβs dedication and commitment to the Department, the City, and the Community were evident in his training of new staff, his mentoring of team members, and his availability to help all of us whenever needed.
Ruben loved his family, fishing, San Francisco 49ers and was an active volunteer in his church. His goal was to make a difference in the work he did, be the best person and officer he could be, and serve the community professionally and compassionately.
We all feel this loss deeply, and our thoughts are with his friends and family during this difficult time.
