Bette’s Blues Blueberry Farm is a family farm owned and operated by Willis and Bette Howell. We are a 10 acre u-pick farm dedicated to bringing you the highest quality most delicious blueberries and blackberries imaginable. Come out and visit us and have a fun day in the country as you pick our luscious sun ripened berries at the peak of flavor. Our farm has been completely planned, developed and

maintained by us with perseverance and plenty of “sweat equity”! What better way to experience some fresh air and gorgeous Florida Sunshine while picking the sweetest, juiciest blueberries you ever popped in your mouth! Studies have proven that walks in nature reduce stress and anxiety. Nature always brings balance and peace. You may be blessed to see some of Florida's beautiful native birds and small wildlife. We are very protective of all our wildlife, including the Florida Gopher ( tortoise ). You may get the opportunity to see them in their natural habitat. You will observe their burrows marked off for their protection throughout the farm. We started our farm with the dreams of high dollar commercial blueberry farming in 2007. But, the huge amount of blueberries imported to the US from other countries had already started and by 2013 we decided to go strictly u-pick. We are very grateful we converted to only u-pick blueberries. We have made so many friends and have learned so much about our Community. The support we receive each year from the Community has been overwhelming! And, the pleasure to contribute a fun, safe and healthy place to come with friends, family and children for the residents of Citrus County and our neighboring Counties, has been extremely satisfying. It has been a valuable lesson each year as we continue to learn and adapt to our environment and community needs. We are continuously trying to improve our lovely farm for the better and cannot imagine anything less. Our dream of a beautiful, environmentally friendly, sustainable u-pick blueberry farm is still going strong and will continue to grow each year! We look forward to each season and hope that each of you can be a part of this great treasure that we have here in Citrus County! We appreciate your business and look forward to making more blueberry memories.

We not only have our scrumptious Blueberries, but, we have our all-natural organic soaps again this year.
Using the finest ingredients; premium blends of saponified oils of sunflower, coconut, palm, and safflower, pure essential oils, organic herbs, and plant extracts. Our bar soap looks and smells amazing and has excellent cleaning, soothing, and moisturizing properties.
We have a delicious new scent this year: Oatmeal Spice.

We have been enjoying the magical lightning bugs or fireflies in the evenings.
Lightning Bugs, also known as Fireflies, are actually not flies, but beetles.
Male fireflies will flash a specific pattern while they fly, hoping a female will flash back a reply.
Male and female fireflies will continue this twinkling “conversation” until the male locates the female and they mate. Each species of fireflies has its own flashing light pattern that lets females know the courting male is of the same species.
That is important because there are over 2,000 species of fireflies worldwide and 56 species in Florida alone. Wow!
We are saddened to read Lightning Bugs are declining due to lost habitat and light pollution.
We hope you can enjoy the summer magic of Lightning Bugs in your neighborhood.

:) Getting Closer to u-pick time! Yay! :)
I know all you " Lovers of Blueberries " are getting anxious!
We will probably be opening in early April. Mother Nature will help us decide the exact date.
We have a gorgeous crop of Blueberries this year! We have had the almost perfect weather for the berries. We have had a good amount of chill hours without the brutal freezes. And, we have had a good amount of rain this year. Perfect!

Danelle and Greg placed a Bee Box in a pine tree about 100 feet from their main bee hives.
They are anticipating collecting a new swarm. :)
Last year their bees got so strong they added 2 new bee hives.
They definitely help us with pollination and we help their bees become stronger and multiply.
Awesome!

A good measurement of a blueberry field in Florida is for the whole field to be almost completely in bloom by Valentine’s Day.
