We received this yesterday evening. We're still solidifying a name, but from catch cage to a loving home.....What a deeply successful journey this has been. We couldn't be more relieved, or happy for this sweet boy.

🐾 Meet Bogey: Our Resilient Hero 🐾

Our second longest CARES Clarksdale Resident 💛

Bogey has spent 834 days at CARES Clarksdale, and in that time, he’s shown us what true resilience looks like. This 5-year-old Dalmatian/Terrier mix has a heart of gold, despite the intense neglect and abuse he's endured. Bogey is photogenic, playful, and has a soft spot for peanut butter sandwiches and belly rubs from those he trusts. 🥪💛

Bogey’s journey hasn’t been easy. In his past life, he was cruelly tied to something with a large gauge wire that, over time, embedded into his flesh. This caused severe injury and damage to his urinary tract. The physical scars he bears are a stark reminder of the trauma he’s endured. But thanks to reconstructive surgery and his incredible will to thrive, Bogey is learning to outlive his past. He now passes urine through a different route, and though his body has changed, his heart remains pure and full of love. 🐶❤️

Bogey’s trust in humans was abused, but his willingness to rebuild that trust is nothing short of inspiring. He’s working closely with a behaviorist to overcome his social anxieties and fine-tune his leash training. Bogey sits on command, takes treats gently, and is working hard to become fully potty trained. 🐾Bogey will come with a limited package of continued training as a part of his adoption package.

Bogey is a shelter staff favorite, and it’s not hard to see why. His bravery and resilience make him a true hero in our eyes. Bogey is looking for a special person who understands how trauma can leave scars, both physical and emotional, but also believes in the healing power of love and patience. 🐾 Meet Suzanne: Our Longest-Term Sweetheart 🐾

Can you believe Suzanne has been with us for over 900 days? 😢 This gentle soul has spent far too long waiting for her chance to shine in a loving home. Suzanne is a shy, low-maintenance girl who's feeling the effects of long-term shelter life. What she really needs is a patient and gentle companion who understands that building trust takes time, but is oh-so worth it. ❤️

Suzanne is potty and leash-trained, but she'd thrive in a home with a fenced yard where she can roam at her own pace and feel secure in her space. She's the ultimate couch potato and would be the perfect binge-watching buddy! 📺🍿 Plus, she's a snack enthusiast—yes, she can absolutely be bribed with treats! 🦴

Suzanne's situation is becoming more urgent by the day, though she is in professional training with a behaviorist currently to dust up on her social skills and manners. She desperately needs a furever home where she can finally relax and be herself. 🚨UPDATE
8/16: We are awaiting a reply from a rescue that has expressed interest in this sweet boy. We have shared medical records, photos and temperament testing. This or a similar situation with an experienced handler would be absolutely ideal for this GSD, because he would have access to handlers with specific knowledge in German Shepherd Dogs. We are still working to touch bases with people who have expressed interest in adopting this guy, please be patient with us as we navigate this endeavor. Because of All of You, he is safe as of now, and we are fully focused and committed to finding him the best pathway into a furever home!

8/14: As of today, several wonderful people have donated to this guy's boarding fund to buy us some time to find him a home. I've just visited with him in boarding, and we've been able to do a flex assessment. Given the stressful situation, I can add now that he appears fearful, but quite calm. He was examined today by the Veterinarian and appears to be in overall good health aside from being underweight. He did very well for his exam- no obvious aggression. He doesn't appear reactive, again, just fearful and unsure. We do not yet have information on his reaction to kids/cats/dogs and we really don't have a way of assessing those items while he is in boarding. We will be reaching out to those that have expressed interest today, into tomorrow. We're also still exploring leads on GSD rescues as well. Thank you, and keep sharing his story!

This handsome boy is in serious trouble and needs our help! He appears to be a mostly German Shepherd mix and is currently in board with Animal Control, who, like us, is overwhelmed with capacity.

We’re urgently reaching out to German Shepherd rescues, friends with GSD or GSD experience, and anyone who might be able to help, but time is running out.

Unfortunately, we cannot bring him into our shelter due to our own large dog space constraints, so he’s not within our ability to hold. But we believe there's a loving home out there for him. If you have any leads, please reach out or share this post far and wide.

*Temperament: Unknown, but has shown no signs of aggression to our knowledge.
*Age: Approximately 3-4 years
*Due to the lack of knowledge in his background and behavior, he needs a dog experienced foster or adopter. CARES Clarksdale can, and will help navigate the foster or adoption. We will happily ensure that he is vaccinated and arrange for his neuter, and make arrangements to send food and bedding to his new home!

CARES Clarksdale recently teamed up with Wings of Rescue and The Pet Compassion Centers in an incredible effort to help our furry friends find their forever homes! Our customized conversion van hit the road in a big way, collaborating with Tipton County Animal Shelter, West Memphis Animal Shelter, The Cleveland-Bolivar County Animal Shelter of Mississippi, West Point Clay County Animal Shelter and 15 of our very own kitties from CARES Clarksdale Animal Rescue Effort and Shelter to transport in total 79 felines who made the journey to the Humane Society of North Texas in Fort Worth 🐱✨

It was a heartwarming and intense multi-day process filled with gathering all the right health documentation, check-ups, and prep work. The adventure culminated in an epic wee hour load up, a ten-hour road trip, lots of water stops, kitty check-ins, bad renditions of 80's and 90's sing alongs and lots of coffee.

We couldn’t be more honored to have played a part in giving these 79 sweet souls a chance at the happy, loving homes they deserve. 💛

We’re so grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with amazing shelters and rescue partners in our shared mission. Here’s to more life-saving transports and a bright future for all our furry friends! 🚀🐾

🚨 FREEDOM RIDE ALERT! 🚨

Meet this brave momma dog who just experienced a major glow up! Her journey from the heartbreaking moment captured in the first photo to the joyous freedom ride in the second is nothing short of inspiring. This is the purpose, and the point!

When we first met her through Animal Control, she was in a tough spot, abandoned by her owner. Her spirit never wavered, and neither will ours. Today, thanks to the relentless efforts of Animal Control and in Partnership with CARES, she’s on her way to a loving foster home where she can finally experience the care and warmth she deserves.

This beautiful Glow Up Freedom Ride is a direct result of Animal Control, and their partnership with CARES Clarksdale. While we may both be at capacity, we're working tirelessly (and often nearly around the clock) as individual entities and in partnership to move mountains one inch at a time while maintaining realistic ethical animal housing with respect to resources and space available. Our mission isn’t for the faint of heart, but it takes all of our hearts to see it through.

This is the power of Community. This is the impact of social media. And this is the result of people willing to go the extra mile for these sweet animals. ❤️
