Thought I’d share a glimpse of Sandy’s birth. Most puppies are born with the amniotic sac still intact. They don’t even realize they’re born until the sac is broken cueing them to take their first breath of air. In this video this puppy is born tail first, this is common, it’s not considered a breech position in pups but you can see a little of a front leg, belly, back legs, paws (🥹) and a tail if you look close enough and then at the very end the head is popped out. Mom then will open the sac and chew the umbilical cord off. I start with suctioning nose and mouth first to clear the airway, then I assist mom with holding the umbilical cord close to the belly, so mom doesn’t pull too hard, to help prevent hernias. I also am there to assist in lung massage to stimulate better breathing if need be, and then I place the pup on a teat where they typically start nursing immediately. Anyways thought I’d share, hope you enjoy.
Wanted to share my story with you all-
My family and I were on vacation last week in TN and had an unforgettable experience, we spotted a dog in the middle of the lake, she was swimming but her head would stay under the water several seconds before barely lifting her nose to catch a quick breath. I could tell she was struggling, likely moments before she’d give up the fight and not lift her nose again. She was frightened and disoriented, she was swimming away from the boat, I finally managed to grab her with our net and my husband lifted her head from the water, she showed instant relief and her body went limp, she was exhausted. We lifted her lifeless body onto our boat. The banks were straight up and down, could she have fallen in and couldn’t get out? She had no collar. I was pretty sure she had an owner because she was very well fed and she was gray faced, I just knew someone would be missing her. We went to the nearest house, spoke with the people there but no one recognized her. I called several animal control locations with no luck. Unsure of the area or even what county we were in, we were so thankful to find some local people on a dock near by willing to help us, they were able to get ahold of the animal control officer. While we waited for animal control, we got her on dry land, the poor old girl was moaning & growling, vomiting up water, she attempted to stand once and fell right back down but she mostly just rested… I was unsure if the trauma would be too much for her. I gave them my phone number for updates, scared for the worst. I was so happy when the dog was listed in stable condition the next day but they stated she was very stressed, completely blind and confirmed she was an older dog….. but then thanks to people sharing her picture on FB she is was reunited with her owner!!! Our family was on cloud 9 after hearing that and thought I’d share with you all. ❤️
(This is another great reason to microchip your doggos and I had no id
