Rollickin' Irish Setters

Rollickin' Irish Setters Irish Setters are my hobby. Our family of Irish setters is located in Clarkston Michigan. I called him Raleigh. Madison was finished in October 2010.
(6)

I got my first Irish Setter in August 1974, his name was Sir Red Royale Raleigh. Unfortunately and tragically he was hit by a car at 7 months. My current boy is named Rollickin' Remembrance and is called Raleigh after that first puppy. After the untimely death of Raleigh I acquired a bitch puppy in February 1975 from Bill and Patsy Brooks of the Bayberry Kennels in Decatur, Georgia. Kelly lived 1

2 years, was a wonderful companion, pet and show dog. She had two litters that produced many fine puppies. After Kelly died in June 1986, I did not have another Irish Setter until I acquired Madison, Ch. Roclyn Fifth Avenue at 3 months from Cindy Stanford of Roclyn Setters. She was bred to GCh. Northwinds First Reign and whelped a beautiful litter of 8 boys on Easter April 8, 2012. Madison was bred a second time to "Scrappy" Ch Northwinds Daydreamer, from which she produced a wonderful litter of 9 girls and 3 boys. From this litter, called the "Dream" Litter, I kept beautiful "Windy" Ch Rollickin' Roclyn Dream Girl, who I co-own with Cindy Stanford. Also from this litter is "Indy" Rollickin' Dream Come True, Co-owned with Marta Pionke and "Clover" Rollickin' Livin' the Dream is co-owned with Terry Staley.

This beauty was with me in my youth. Kelly came to me from Bayberry in Decatur, Georgia. Bill and Patsy Brooks bred her. She was sired by Ch. Bayberry Kincaide and was out of Bayberry Tiffany of Palomar. She was a beautiful girl, a great friend and companion. I still miss her. Kelly was born 49 years ago September 30, 1974, aka Bayberry Kelly of Red Valley

Historian Michael Beschloss recently posted this picture of the then President, Richard Nixon playing with his Irish Setter on the lawn of the "Western White House", his San Clemente home in California. President Nixon named him Tirvelda Tim of Legemere based on the Irish roots of his mother's family in Ireland. He was called King Timahoe and nicknamed Tim. Tim was sired by Ch. Tirvelda Rustic Duke and out of the beautiful dam Ch. Tirvelda Maidavale. Tim was bred by breeder/judge Ted Eldredge of the famous Tirvelda Farms in Middleburg, Virginia.

That unfortunate reality all pet owners face, eventually saying goodbye and dealing with the loss of their beloved dog! "Last Time", a touching song and tribute by singer/songwriter Andrew Galucki, to his childhood friend and the family pet, a Yellow Lab named Sandy. Takes you thru some footage of her life including and beginning with her first bath.

So almost a year ago, I found out that we had to put our childhood dog down after 15 years. It was a quick decision and I couldn't make it home for the proc...

On December 19, 1969, the Nixon family pets got into the holiday spirit with presents and festive accessories in the White House Library. On the far left, President Richard Nixon’s Irish Setter, King Timahoe, sports a green ribbon. In the center, Pasha, Tricia Nixon’s Yorkshire Terrier, opens a present. On the right, Julie Nixon Eisenhower’s French Poodle, Vickie, wears a seasonal sweater while investigating a small Christmas tree. Stockings containing toys for the dogs are pictured hanging on the fireplace mantel in the background.

Many of us have alot of memories of Oliva Newton-John thru her career in the entertainment industry. From these pictures it appears she was also an avid lover of Irish Setters over many years.

She loved animals, apparently from these pictures she loved Irish Setters too. RIP Betty White

This shot of President Nixon’s dog King Timahoe on the White House lawn is part of the magnificent photo collection donated to AKC Archives by the Irish Setter Club of America. In the upcoming “Old School” issue of the Gazette, we’ll take a deep dive into the ISCA collection.

Tim was born Tirvelda Tim of Ledgemere on July 31, 1968, to sire Ch. Tirvelda Rustic Duke and dam Ch. Tirvelda Maidavale at Ted Eldredge’s Tirvelda Farms kennel in Virginia.

The most famous King Timahoe story concerns a visit made to the White House by Prince Charles. From Susi Szeremy’s National Purebred Dog Day website: In correspondences between Nixon and the White House staff before the visit, there was a lighthearted moment as they wondered how to address the President’s dog, King Timahoe. The reply: During the Prince’s visit, the dog would be referred to only as Timahoe since “it would be inappropriate for the Prince to be outranked by a dog.”

King Timahoe got his name from a hamlet in County Kildare, Ireland, where Nixon’s ancestors were from. The setter was a birthday present from Nixon’s staff in 1969, though staff members had first given Nixon a small model of an Irish Setter to represent the puppy to come in a few weeks. Nixon held off on naming the dog until he met him, explaining that he wanted to “judge his personality” but that it would “certainly be a good Irish name.”
