โจTraining Tip Tuesday: Teaching โSettleโ for Calm Moments ๐ถโจ
Does your dog get a little too excited sometimes? Teaching them to โsettleโ is a great way to help them relax when you need a moment of calm!
1. Start with a Cozy Spot: Choose a designated spot, like their bed or a mat. Have some treats ready to reward them.
2. Lure Them to the Spot: Use a treat to guide your dog onto their spot. Once theyโre there, say โSettleโ and give them the treat to reinforce that this is a good, calm place.
3. Reward Calm Behavior: Encourage them to lie down, and only give treats when they stay calm and relaxed. If they start getting excited, wait until they settle down again to reward.
4. Gradually Increase Time: Over time, ask them to โSettleโ for a few extra seconds before giving a treat. Add calm petting and praise to keep them comfortable.
5. Use โSettleโ During Busy Moments: Try this command when youโre working at your desk, eating dinner, or when guests arrive. The goal is for your dog to feel relaxed in their spot, even with mild distractions.
With a bit of practice, โSettleโ will be your go-to command for creating calm moments, giving both you and your dog a chance to unwind! ๐พ
