From muddy fat pony to sleek and fit….. amazing the difference a hair cut makes. 🤣

Her winter coat is two inches long… she’s been rocking an Irish cut for a little while to accommodate the wild temperature swings of a Tennessee spring. Now that it is mid-May the temperatures are finally consistent enough to give my girl a proper cut.

I leave her legs to help protect her from the mud….. the rain feels never ending….. and the flies. When she eventually finishes shedding out I’ll put her sweet fly boots on to help make sure the summer swarms don’t chew her up.

I don’t know what it is about me and the way I train and treat my personal equines…….. but man can I make a diva 🤣

My gelding (Chance, KM’s predecessor) was near feral when I got him at 18 mos old, and he was a complete diva by the time he passed 16yrs later.

KM was even more of a hot mess when I brought her home, and before I stepped into her life she survived for four years literally just existing - no stall, no bougie feed, no blankies when the weather is gross. Now, nearly 6 yrs later she is the QUEEN of the divas 👑.

I’m completely convinced she understands me when I talk to her because she played a rousing game of “Catch me if you can” until I apologized for rushing my time with her the last couple of days. Only then did she provide me the privilege of catching her 🤦‍♀️🤣

I attempted to free lunge her to get some of her considerable yayas out, and she decided I needed some exercise too and made me traipse all over the arena to keep her moving. Soooo tomorrow it’s time to get back in the saddle, because clearly she is “over” ground work this week.

Miss Mae has thrush BAD…… because TN winters are unreasonably wet and she’s a delicate flower 🌸

So, I’ve been coming to the barn every day to give her an anti-microbial foot wash () and treat the thrush with Therazura (it’s amazing).

But I’m starting to think her stinky feet were all a ploy to get me to come to the barn more consistently 🤔

The temps here in TN are dropping 🥶🥶 so KM got her extra snuggly blankie on today. 420g Rambo w/hood —- so spoiled ❤️

KM takes after the donkey side of her DNA when it comes to the low temps and tends to shiver….. so she has a closet FULL of cozy blankies (w/hoods of course) to keep her warm and dry no matter what the weather is.

Winter is coming and my long eared lady loves to be cozy in her collection of blankies (all with hoods 🤣)

When it get really cold she likes to tuck her ears into the hood of her blankie.

The Marvelous Miss Mae has been not quite balanced as of late. Apparently she has been wearing the outside of her front feet, and not the inside 🤦‍♀️ So my amazing farrier suggested we try a half shoe to give the outside hood wall time to grow and catch up to the inside (he was a little reluctant because mules and she’s never been shod before 🤣🤷‍♀️). KM was an absolute angel for her “fancy” pedicure and decided to give Jon a snuggle while he finished.

Safe to say she likes him 🤣

I know I say this a lot but, I truly could not have asked for a better mule ❤️

It’s been several weeks since I have been to the barn and you’d never realize how long it has been based on her behavior. Just as solid and steady as they come 😍

She is the most forgiving and patient creature.

I can only imagine how far we would be in our journey if I didn’t let life get in the way and was at the barn more consistently.

Who ever thought KM would be “babysitter” safe for F? Never did I think she would be this good, I knew she would be safe for him eventually, but “babysitter safe” only in my dreams…. She is a wild woman after all 🤣. He loses his balance a little and she stops….. she has come so incredibly far. It has been a LOOOOOONG journey, but it has been worth it. Tiny baby steps forward have gotten us here.
