Meet Valentino! The Fluff came to his rescue to clean him up and find that silly boy underneath. He was apparently abandoned in our county and now looking for a home. Applications are being accepted. Download from this site: www.fopcp.org
Thank you to Cody and her team at the Fluff!

This family of dogs were illegally and cruelly abandoned on a property the top of Cane Creek Mtn in Powell Co. They were in pitiful shape when animal control got to the scene. We are happy to report they are doing better and we are working on getting them healthier and happier for a new home.

We wanted to take a moment to remind everyone the process of reporting complaints or concerns regarding animals in our community. Our staff does everything to put the animals first and to get the best results, we need your help!

Even though we all love animals, we still have to follow all applicable laws. Sometimes it hard not to just swoop in and take an animal but in order to be sure the animal doesn’t end up back in the same situation we have to follow the proper process.

Here is how you can help:

1. Call to report. It is much easier to get the whole story when 2 people can have a conversation and questions can be asked. Emails and Facebook messages can be good initial contact but be sure to include your phone number if you go that route so an officer can contact you for more information. If reporting an issue in Winchester/Clark County, our phone number is (859)737-0053. In a small town it is easy to mention something in passing and I can promise we don't intentionally ignore any concern but if it's not reported in a way that is tangible and logged, it can be easy to forget or overlook. Please take a moment of your time to report appropriately. We responded to nearly 1,500 new service calls for animal control last year.
2. When reporting suspected cruelty or neglect give as much information as possible. It’s very helpful if you can have the exact street address so we can be sure we go to the correct place. Don’t be upset when we ask questions. Sometimes owners try to hide things or you may have a view of something from your yard that we can’t see from the road. The more information we have in the beginning the better!
3. If you report an issue once but it happens again, report it again. Not all circumstances will warrant that an animal be removed. Sometimes an owner may be given a warning or cited however, continued violations may justify additional action. Sometimes an issue can be corrected so the case will be closed but later a similar violation will happen again. If it isn’t reported we don’t know so never be afraid to report it again.
4. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Our Animal Control Officers will be happy to explain state and local animal laws and what is and isn’t required. This may help explain a certain course of actions during an investigation.
5. Please remember that we all want what is best for the animals but that the law only requires a minimum standard of care. That standard may be different than what you or I would have for our personal animals but we must act within what is outlined by law. We will make every effort to make the situation the best it can be for the animals involved. Negativity does not help the animals.
