20 young Girl Scouts from Brookville can to learn about horses. BIG Thank yous to Bev, Tara, Carson & Leigh for demonstrating the skills it takes to be around horses. Everyone had a great time. The horses loved that all these little humans brought apples, carrots & peppermints and learn how to feed a horse treats. They will be back to actually ride next time.

Puppy easter egg hunt at HGF. The neighbor's grand dogs, Bailey & Fergie had fun figuring out how to pop the plastic eggs open to get the doggie treats inside. I think Fergie gets the prize for opening and gobbling at least 10 treats.

Carson's Rocket here again. Today was the day I got to go on a trail ride with my best friend Kasamount. It was so COOL! Kas let me go first. I guess going first on a trail ride is a big deal. Seems silly for a former race horse. Pam was very happy with me. I kinda like this trail ride thing. Hope I get to go again soon. C Rock, over & out. 🐴

Hay Everyone! Carson's Rocket here. I was told I needed to do a FB Update (what ever that is)
The weather has been GREAT here at Heaven's Gate Farm even tho the fields are really dry & the grass is kinda crunchy. I did manage to find some mud to roll in near the water trough yesterday. It felt soooo good. Pam wasn't very happy with me for some reason today. Despite that, she put a different back thing on me. It was pretty comfy with that big fuzzy pad. Pam said I needed to work on my slow trot today. She said I did pretty good after I "Blew off some Steam" on the long lead rope. Don't know what that means either but it was fun running around in the sand.
I think she was happy with me today 'cause when we were done I got lots of those sweet red striped things that melt in your mouth. Yum yum. She also to me that a couple more rides like today and we can go on a trail ride with cousin Kaz. Don't know what a trail ride is but if I get to go with Kaz, I'm sure it will be a good time. 👍

Fun weekend adventure at a trail obstacle course. Have been there before with a different horse. 3 years ago with Forestry Lane (she was 4 yrs old) This year with her "little" brother Kasamount (6 yr old OTTB) Kas has found it second career. He LOVES trail riding. Thank you Valeria Manemann for putting on a wonderful event. Here are some pictures of both horses.

HGF sure has a nice group of OTTBs. All 4 were born on the farm. They went off to try their hooves at racing, now they are back starting their 2nd careers. Such nice horses to work with.

This horse has really impressed me. After a 2 week vacation, a new set of shoes & introduction to peppermints, I thought it was time to get Rocket in the groove of what it means to be a saddle horse. This evening was our first ride. He stood still for me to get in the saddle at the mounting block. (Thank you Amy Bush for dispensing the peppermint as I put my foot into the stirrup.) Then he walked off quietly when I asked. I was pleasantly surprised to find that fairly straight! (Not a common occurrence for a horse off the race track.) He walked along stretching into the bridle, no high headedness or tossing. He goes forward when you ask, stops with your seat command with very little rein pressure!! And if you know about Dressage training, he does balanced turns from your OUTSIDE AIDS!!
He stood quietly as I talked to several people, then went willing back to work. Like I said, I am very impressed with this horse!! Good boy Carson's Rocket! You deserved the extra peppermints tonight.

The sad thing about training OTTBs is they usually don't know what treats are. Well its taken 5 days but Carson's Rocket has finally figured out that peppermints are YUMMY🍬🐴😁

Well, a baby returns. About 4 yrs ago a cute chestnut c**t with a blazed face & 2 high double swirls was born at HGF. My grandson called him Rocket because he "jumped" after only 15 minutes of birth. When his owners came to take him & the mare home, I told them my 10 yr old grandson, Carson, named him Rocket. They thought that was sweet and about 3 months later, I get a text that this c**t's registered name is Carson's Rocket. So Rocket grows up, goes to racehorse training, and starts his career as an Ohio bred racehorse. Fast forward to July 2021. My grandson, Carson & I were in Lexington & I called Dr. Clara Fenger to see if we could come visit Rocket. She welcomed us with open arms to her farm and we got to see that the little chestnut c**t is all grown up. Dr. Clara told Carson that when Rocket was done racing, she would give him to him.
Fast forward again. Over the year I followed Carson's Rocket's race career. To say it lacked luster would be an exaggeration. So in June of 2022, Dr. Clara called and told me Rocket has decided that racing is NOT for him and wanted a new career. Sooooo, Carson's Rocket has come home.
I don't think the grandson is ready to give up his beloved Captain Crunch for a young off the track Thoroughbred so guess who gets him now. 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️
Rocket will get a week or so off and then we will see what career path he my want to follow. Dressage? Jumping? Trail horse? Maybe cow pony? We will see. He might even be up for finding a new owner, although I'm sure he would prefer to stay at Heaven's Gate Farm.
