***ADOPTED!!***

Steve (FKA Dasher) really needs some help and love from our NLOL community! He is only about 3 years old and has been adopted twice and surrendered both times. šŸ’”

He will be at the Dahl Subaru adoption event this Saturday, 10/19 from 10-2, if you want to come meet him! Hereā€™s his sad storyā€¦ā€¦

Steve was found, when he was just year old, as a stray on the streets of Texas. He was adopted shortly there after, but fast forward 1 year, he was surrendered back to the shelter at no fault of his own. At this point he came into the NLOL family - January 2024. When he arrived he went to a foster home for just a short period. He then found, what he thought was going to be, his happily ever after in February 2024. Fast forward another 9 months to the present day and he was surrendered again due to the mom, who he bonded most with, having long working hours. Since being surrendered Steve has found 2 short term foster homes but, come Saturday 10/19, he is in need of a new foster or adoptive home yet again šŸ˜

Steve can be timid at first to new things and people. He is also timid with men, which is common especially since he has had no stability in his life. His current foster said Steve warmed up to her husband after just a brief time, but this will likely take patience, understanding, and love from any male heā€™ll be around. As he learns heā€™s FINALLY home and safe this should get better.

Steve is listed as a Dachshund Mix. He does have the short little legs but really your guess is as good as ours. He has one blue eye and one brown eye šŸ˜˜

āœ… 33lbs but could lose a bit of weight (free feeding is likely not for this boy)
āœ… He knows command such as sit, shake, high 5.
āœ… He is gentle and takes treats every so nicely
āœ… Steve enjoys outside time but doesnā€™t come with a whole lot of energy so he is content just sniffing around
āœ… Heā€™s also used to a tie out so does not require a fenced in yard
āœ… fully potty trained
āœ… He sleeps in his kennel. He has 2 of his own blankets in there. He never barks and waits patiently in the morning to get out.
āœ… Steve is very excited to see his people when they come home but listens well when heā€™s told to sit
āœ… Lap Dog but he is content to sit or lay on another chair or couch near his human as well.
āœ… Steve had previously been with several dogs and done fine but, with all his recent changes, he may need slow introductions to new dogs.

Steve REALLY needs a committed foster or adoptive home who will give him love, confidence, stability, and maybe a diet šŸ¤«.

If you can help him by fostering or are interested in adoption APPLY HERE: https://newleashdogrescue.com (or private message us if youā€™re already preapproved!)

**Steveā€™s $200 adoption fee includes his neuter, vaccines to date, heartworm test, current vet check, and microchip.

Hello: You have reachedā€¦ your local broke non profit rescue run by volunteers-
Due to the high volume of calls we have been receiving, please listen closely to the following options and choose the one that best describes you or your situation:
Press 1 if you have a 10-year-old dog and your 15-year-old son has suddenly become allergic and you need to find the dog a new home right away.
Press 2 if you are moving TODAY but knew it 3 months ago and need to immediately place your 150 pound, 8-year-old dog.
Press 3 if you have three dogs, had a baby and want to get rid of your dogs because you are the only person in the world to have a baby and dogs at the same time.
Press 4 if you just got a brand new puppy and your old dog is having problems adjusting so you want to get rid of the old one right away.
Press 5 if your little puppy has grown up and is no longer small and cute and you want to trade it in for a new model.
Press 6 if you want an unpaid volunteer to come to your home TODAY and pick up the dog you no longer want.
Press 7 if you have been feeding and caring for a ā€œstrayā€ for the
last three years, are moving and suddenly determine itā€™s not your dog.
Press 8 if your dog is sick and needs a vet but you need the money for your vacation, w**d, manicure/ pedicure or your hair needs a color & cut.
Press 9 if you are elderly and want to adopt a cute puppy who is active and is going to outlive you, cause you will fall and break a hip & you have ZERO relatives after this happens to help with the dog.
Press 10 if your relative has died and you donā€™t want to care for
their elderly dog because it doesnā€™t fit your lifestyle. Press pound pound if we need to pu the pet within 4 minutes.
Press 11 if your cat is biting and not using the litter box because
it is declawed, but you are not willing to accept the responsibility
that the catā€™s behavior is altered because of YOUNG nice furniture.
Press 12 if your two-year old male dog is marking all over your house but you just havenā€™t gotten around to having him neutered.
Press 13 if you previously had an outdoor only dog and are calling because she is suddenly pregnant.
Press 14 if you are calling at 5 a.m. to make sure you wake me up before I have to go to work so you can drop a dog off on your way to work.
Press 15 to leave us an anonymous garbled message, letting us know you have left a dog in our yard in the middle of January, which is in fact, better than just leaving the dog with no message.
Press 16 if you are going to get angry because we are not going to take your dog that you have had for fifteen years, because it is not our responsibility.
Press 17 if you are going to threaten ME to take your ten-year old dog to be euthanized because we can't take it because 55 others are in line ahead of you.
Press 18 if youā€™re going to get angry because the volunteers had the audacity to go on vacation and leave the dogs in care of a trusted volunteer who is not authorized to take your personal pet.
Press 19 if you want one of our PERFECTLY trained, hypoallergenic, under 9 pound female dogs that are housebroken, kid and cat friendly purebred that we have an abundance of.
Press 20 if you want us to take your dog that has a slight aggression problem, i.e. has only bitten a few people and killed your neighborā€™s cats.
Press 21 if you have already called once and been told we donā€™t take personal surrenders but thought you would get a different person this time with a different answer.
Press 22 if you want us to use space that would go to a stray to
board your personal dog while you are on vacation, free of charge, of course.
Press 23 if it is Christmas Eve or Easter morning and you want me to deliver an eight week old puppy to your house by 6:30 am before your kids wake up- oh and it needs to never bark or never p*e in the house
Press 24 if you have bought your children a duckling, chick or baby bunny for Easter and it is now Christmas and no longer cute.
Press 25 if you want us to take your female dog who has already had ten litters, but we canā€™t spay her because she is pregnant again and it is against your religion.
Press 26 if youā€™re lying to make one of our younger volunteers feel bad and take your personal pet off your hands.
Press 27 if you have done ā€œeverythingā€ to housebreak your dog and have had no success but you donā€™t want to crate the dog because it is cruel, you also refuse to gate the dog into a secure area like a kitchen or nook
Press 28 if you didnā€™t listen to the message asking for an evening phone number and you left your work number when all volunteers are also working and you are angry because no one called you back.
Press 29 if you need a puppy immediately and cannot wait because today is your daughterā€™s birthday and you forgot when she was born.
Press 30 if your dogā€™s coat doesnā€™t match your new furniture and you need a different color or breed.
Press 31 if your new f$&k buddy doesnā€™t like your dog and you are too
stupid to get rid of the new friend (who will dump you in the next
month anyway) instead of the dog.
Press 32 if you went through all these ā€˜optionsā€™ and didnā€™t hear
enough. This press will connect you to the sounds of tears being shed by one of our volunteers who is holding a discarded old dog while the vet mercifully frees him from the grief of missing his family.

Phil was with us originally and we had no interest in him so New Leash On Life (Wisconsin) took him and he has done great in his foster home but he is still looking for his very own home.

***ADOPTED!!***

Happy šŸ’™PHILšŸ’™ (aka ā€œPhilly/Philly Cheesesteakā€) Friday! šŸ„‚ This handsome young man is still with us in foster careā€¦and we just CANNOT believe it! šŸ¤ÆšŸ„ŗ Phil celebrated his 1st birthday back in March, and although we couldnā€™t gift him with a forever family before his special dayā€¦he told us heā€™d GLADLY accept a home as a *belated* birthday present! šŸ™šŸ¼šŸŽ‰ Phil was born in a sister shelter of ours on 3/2/23. After 9 months of life there with no interest (ā€¦seriously šŸ˜šŸ’”), Phil started to get quite depressed and was declining. He knew that shelter life just couldnā€™t be all there wasā€¦and he yearned for the love of family heā€™d never known. One of our incredibly gracious foster families opened up their home to this sweet, sweet boy, and he (+ WE šŸ«¶šŸ¼šŸ«¶šŸ¼) couldnā€™t be more thankful! šŸ˜ So although heā€™s made it from shelter ā€”> foster homeā€¦weā€™d LOVE to see him make that final step to ā€”> FOREVER FAMILY!! šŸ¤žšŸ¼šŸ¤žšŸ¼šŸ¤žšŸ¼ Could you please help us by sharing this cute boyā€™s story??

Phil (male) is now 1 year & 2 months old. He is listed as a German shepherd mixā€¦but we truly arenā€™t sure of his breed(s). šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø Weā€™d love to see a DNA test done on this cutie! Being the runt of his litter, Phil is fully grown @ right around 50lbsā€¦so heā€™s just the most perfect medium-sized pup! This works out well for both Phil and his people, because his all time favorite thing = LAP CUDDLES!! šŸ„°šŸ„° His ideal place is snuggled up on his foster momā€¦so if youā€™re looking for a snuggle-pup, Phil. Is. Your. Dude. šŸ™ŒšŸ¼šŸ™ŒšŸ¼šŸ™ŒšŸ¼ He is a lap dog through and through! He doesnā€™t believe in personal space when it comes to snuggle sessions. Mid-day naps? Yes please! āœ… Blankets? ALL of them! āœ… Belly rubs? Obviously. šŸ˜āœ… Seriously, heā€™s the sweetest!

Phil adores kiddos (of all ages!) and gets along wonderfully with other dogs. He loves to play, romp, and wrestle with the other younger dog in his foster home! šŸ¾ His favorite toys are his stuffed animals, but will happily play with toys of all types! He is 100% potty-trained (WINšŸ’Æ) and is crate-trained. He was initially a bit timid around his foster dad (he tends to gravitate a bit more towards females & children), but his family has been awesome at working with him + exposing him to plenty of menā€¦so Phil would truly be a great fit for a family/home of any kind! ā˜ŗļø As for kittiesā€¦we canā€™t attest that heā€™s ever met one, so his status with cats is currently unknown.

Phil has been dreaming of finding his family for 442 days. ā³ Weā€™ve PROMISED him that his forever is out there somewhereā€¦searching for him, too. šŸ„¹šŸ„¹ Is it you?? If this precious boy sounds like the one for you, please apply + reach out via private message. Just ask for Mr. Philly Cheesesteak himself! šŸ§€šŸ™ƒšŸ’›šŸ’›

This is one of the locations that we occasionally helped.

We couldn't have saved them all - but maybe a couple of them if we were open.

We hope someone will come forward that wants to open and run a rescue.

UPDATE: The person who has them has decided to try and find homes for them herself (after jumping everyone through hoops to try and help).

Got contacted about a couple of Great Pyr. mix puppies. They are about 7 weeks old right now - would be a couple of weeks before they could get to this area, be fixed and ready to go home. If interested please message us. We can make arrangements through another rescue to handle all details.

1 Male - 1 Female - Not positive which is which right now.

Person who has them says they are social and active puppies.

This is Debbie, I have helped run the rescue since it's inception. I want to say a personal thank you to so many and if I start I am sure I will miss a bunch of you.

First - to our donors who have consistently helped support our efforts in the past 11 years - this wouldn't have been possible without each and every one of you. This includes those of you who have helped with auction items and helped raise funds and provide us with items needed whenever we put out the plea. A lot of expensive surgeries were performed because so many of you stepped up to the plate when certain dogs needed surgery - or sent dog/cat food and supplies when needed. Every donated dime was appreciated.

The veterinarians who have worked with us over the years have been amazing and we wouldn't hesitate to refer Dr. Mike at Sheffield Veterinary Clinic - it didn't matter what time day or night we needed him - he always answered his phone for us and met us when needed at the clinic whether it was a middle of the night c-section or a sick dog. His staff is amazing to work with and we are so appreciative. The other vet we used for special needs was Dr. Jeff Holmes in Algona. He has done numerous orthopedic surgeries for us over the years and he and his staff were wonderful with our animals.

The various board members over the years have all brought different thoughts and ideas and have worked over the years to make the shelter better.

The foster homes that helped so much when the call went out - you helped save so many over the years and please never stop trying to help - there is so much need out there.

Our Rescue partners in other States have been a true pleasure to work with over the years. It was truly our pleasure to make so many amazing contacts over the years and end up with many good friends as a results. A special Thank You to Kim Dambra from Lockhart for all of your help in helping us place some of our final dogs with other reputable rescues. Your help was invaluable.

To the Rescues that helped us with dogs during our closing - your help has been so appreciated and at the end of the day if we can personally ever help you we would be happy to do so.

To our in-house staff and volunteers that worked with the dogs day in and day out - you guys were the lifeline for our dogs and you were/are appreciated. We know this has been hard on all of you and we hope you all carry forward a little more love for animals as you move in different directions.

To all of our friends on this page - thank you for the moral support and sharing of our animals over the years - we would never have gotten the number of quality adoptions we did without your referrals and sharing.

To our adopters - YOU ARE THE BEST - and you make our days so much better with sharing your updates. You have no clue what it does for us to see the dogs we had in our care in loving environments - it is the absolute BEST part of being in rescue. There is no other feeling that is equivalent to that. Our page will stay operational to share and post those updates and any other information we have. Should another rescue move in to operate we will share that information here and give you the information.

It's time to look forward for everyone - we will help where we can by occasionally sharing dogs from other rescues - helping people find a location for an animal that absolutely has to be surrendered can safely go to or posting animals for other locations that need help with dogs. If you are looking to adopt a dog we are happy to answer any questions for you that we can about dogs at other facilities that are truly amazing with their animals.

For all of you that have animals that came from us - please give them a kiss for all of us. We loved them all - whether here for a day or a couple of years.

It's time to move forward and not look back at what has transpired. If you want to comment on this post - please keep it about the dogs/cats - past, present or future - that need a Village to make it all work.

Thank you all - if I missed any group - just know every small gesture was appreciated.

Thank you,
Debbie
