If you have been to our website then you already know that we had a false alarm with Finley. She went in to heat before her last puppy had even gone home. It took us by surprise and our goal had been to skip the heat because our fall season is packed with travel but crafty daddy Parker thwarted are efforts to keep them apart. We decided to let nature take its course.

Because it happened so soon her puppies would have been ready to go home during the girls trip to Ireland but before the big Sukkot camping trip. (So the guys would have had to handle the last couple of weeks without the ladies ;)). Her due date however fell right in the middle of a family reunion/80th birthday party trip to FL. We arranged to have an experienced puppy friend keep her while we were out of town in case she went into labor while we were gone. Because of this we took her to be x-rayed to see how big the pups were and see how many but the scan showed no puppies. This was a blessing in disguise as it freed up this busy season of travel and put this worrisome dog mom at ease.

Sweet mama Darcy is having a little vacay at a friends while she is in heat. We are skipping this heat cycle because we have a lot going on this fall and won’t be able to juggle puppies with everything else that is happening. This is a pic our friends sent of her enjoying the view from their bedroom window. It goes all the way to the floor so she doesn’t even have to get up on the back of a couch like she does at our house.

First solid food for Darcy and Parker’s 2024 spring litter of teddy bear puppies. Everyone dove right in except Ryder. He did a little exploring but just wasn’t that in to it. We will try again tomorrow and see if he joins in with his litter mates.

Blurry tail!

It is the age of blurry tail photos lol. Jaxson was very waggy in his puppy photoshoot resulting in lots of pictures with a blurry tail.

Blow dryer time… This is the puppies first time with the blow dryer so we keep it as relaxed as possible. As the weeks go on we will blow dry them more directly but we hope this warm and cozy intro will keep them from being bothered by the noise and airflow.

Tayla pee-peeing on the puppy pad. I know not the usual cutsie pic or video but… In our puppy area we always include a washable puppy pad laid in one place consistently. While we clean up the puppy area they get free reign in the house. We always lay out a puppy pad. When they first get taken out we put them down on the pad so they will know where it is. Even at this young age of 6 weeks they show a strong tendency to return to the pad to relieve themselves. It’s not 100% of the time but this AM we had 2 pees and one poop on the pad by the time their area was ready for them and none anywhere else. 1) No we do not send puppies home potty trained. We only try to encourage their natural instinct to not potty where they play/eat. 2) Being consistent from day one in giving your puppy access to where you want them to go is vital for a positive potty training experience.

First solid food (well technically second). We softened regular puppy food with home made chicken bone broth and the puppies LOVE it.
