Please be aware that we will have decreased office hours for the week of July 1-5. We will be doing staff training on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday and will have very limited appointment availability those days. We will be closed on July 4th and July 5th to allow our staff to enjoy time with their families. If you have a concern with your pet, or if you will need to pick up any medications for your pet, please call us this week so we can make sure your pets' needs are met! Thank you and we wish you all a very happy Fourth of July!

Last week we said a very bitter sweet good bye to our friend Enzo. Enzo is a very special boy and we'd like to tell you a little bit about him.

Canine Companions® is a non-profit organization that enhances the lives of people with disabilities by providing highly trained assistance dogs and ongoing support to ensure quality partnerships.

A couple of highly motivated students got the Clemson chapter started and Enzo was the very first dog to be a part of it!

Last year, after completing his training with his handlers here at Clemson, Enzo was sent to finish his professional training in California. We were very sad to see this sweet boy go but very proud of him (and his student handlers) for all the hard work they'd done. However, despite being bred for this purpose and receiving the highest level of training, some dogs do not make the cut as Service Dogs. Enzo was one of the dogs who did not make it through. This, of course, does not lessen how incredible Enzo is. It simply is a testament to how rigorous the training is and how strict the criteria are to become a true Service Dog.

The good news is that, while Enzo didn't make it to Service Dog status, Canine Companions® returned Enzo to his original handler at Clemson with whom he now has a lifelong home!

This month, Enzo's handler graduated from Clemson University and is moving to start his new career...with Enzo by his side.

We are honored to have been a part of Enzo's journey and and so proud of him, the other Canine Companions® dogs currently at Clemson and elsewhere, and of all of the Clemson students who have chosen to help raise these dogs so that Canine Companions®can provide Service Dogs to those in need.

Our Followers for Food Campaign with Pickens County SC Animal Shelter has ended. We will be delivering 117 pounds of food to the shelter later this month. Thank you all for sharing and following our page and, please, PLEASE help support our county shelter in any way that you can, be it adoption, donations, or even just going by to tell the amazing and dedicated people who work there that you appreciate all that they do. I encourage everyone to visit and talk to the shelter staff. We are certain that you will be moved and inspired to try and find a way to help!

Calling all subscribers of the Pickens County Courier... Be sure to vote for us as Best Veterinarian this year! You must use an official ballot and at least 15 categories must be filled out for the ballot to be counted. We have a ballot box here in our clinic where ballots can be submitted. If you don't subscribe, you can pick up a Courier at some of their local drops. Many grocery stores and convenience stores in Pickens County carry this paper.
