Lesson 2: His first (known) trot under saddle! (He was mainly a driving horse prior)
Only his 4th training ride, and only the second one outside!
Transformation Tuesday: Odin!
Transformation Tuesday (but done a little differently this week)! π
This week for Transformation Tuesday, we are showcasing one of my personal horses, Odin, from when I first went to look at him in August of last year, to his progress from about a month ago!
His fitness has increased significantly, and he has gained a lot of muscle and improved balance. We are working hard to continue to encourage him to lift through his back and withers, and increase his hind end/hock action.
I look forward to seeing how he continues to progress! π
Grateful MFR Client
This boy was so grateful after his myofascial release session this morning! Lots of good releases, and he gave me tons of snuggles throughout! I just love working with these amazing creatures π₯°
Happy 4th! πΊπ²
πΊπ² Happy 4th of July! π
Thank you to all who have served and are currently serving our country! β€οΈπ€π
(Throwback to a couple years ago, schooling novice xc with my Quarter Horse, Alley π₯°)
Happy Friday everyone! π
Is there anything YOU would like me to talk about in an upcoming post? π€ Comment below!
For now, here's a sped up video of me trimming a hoof on this sweet, elderly, haflinger mare! π₯°
If only it was actually this fast, right? π
Woohoo!! Another great hoof rehab is in the works! π (I will share the before and progress photos of his hooves in the near future!)
From my client:
"After months of being dead lame- it does not feel
any better than to watch Barnaby buck and run all
playful in the paddock! 2 months ago he couldn't walk more than 15 feet. 33 looks good on him! Thank you Rory Potter for getting him on the right
track!"
Hope everyone has a great day, and gets a chance to soak up the nice weather! I know all our horses are loving it! ππ
I was sent this video, along with a great report, shortly after this boy's MFR (myofascial release) session on Monday! He was so happy, rolling and playing in the snow, and walked off SO much more comfortable than before! He had a ton of releases throughout the massage as well. I love to be able to help my clients feel their best! π₯°
Just a few of the many good releases miss Alley
had during her Myofascial Release session last night! π
What is Myofascial Release? π€
Myofascial Release (MFR) is a hands-on massage
technique that targets the fascial system (which encases the muscles) through gentle, slow or sustained pressure on the restriction or tissue barrier. The tissues then become more pliable, which relieves tension from pain-sensitive areas, while restoring range of motion.
"MFR is unique from massage and chiropractic manipulation. It addresses soft tissue restrictions that alter bony alignment and performs osseous releases slowly, without manipulation." - Maija Luttinger (Freely Forward Bodywork)
I can't believe the video I received this morning! π
This past summer, there were days that Spud was barely walking out of his stall when I'd come to work on him, due to multiple issues including moderate to severe navicular syndrome, but just look at him go now! Happy, barefoot, and almost completely sound! π₯°
These amazing shots captured by Eylon Joseph show the huge difference in shock absorption between barefoot and some different shoeing types.
Top - Barefoot
Middle - Metal Shoes
Bottom - Composite Shoes
Yes, there are some cases where a metal shoe is helpful to make a correction, but SO much can be done barefoot or in a hoof boot/composite shoe now, and it's significantly healthier for them and their longevity!
