Hey friends! πŸ‘‹

In the event that whoever buys our farm isn't interested in keeping any of ours as boarders, I will be looking for a place to board my two, sweet, retired chestnuts!

Alley is a 17yo Quarter Horse mare and Charlie is a 12 year old Irish OTTB. I occasionally hop on Alley ba****ck, but other than that they are retired, and I just take them for some in hand walks here and there. Both are very sweet, easy keepers.

Ideal situation would be to have them in their own pasture (just the two of them together), they have been pretty good outdoor board, and share a shelter nicely, but it would be nice to have a stall option over winter (if possible) for those cold snowy nights. Of course I am open to options, as I really just want a place where I can feel confident they are being well cared for on days I can't make it to the barn!

Again, we don't need an indoor or anything, since these kids are retired. Just a nice, drama free barn environment with good care! Looking to stay in the Manitowoc/Sheboygan area (not sure where our new house will be yet, but staying local).

Let me know what's out there! 😊

Hi Friends! We have a rare opening for board on our little family farm! 🐴

The barn is 5 stalls, heated, rubber mats, automatic waterers, hay nets, fans, a wash rack (hot & cold water), feed room, tack room, and attaches to the 60x100 indoor arena. An additional 100x200 outdoor arena is also just a few feet away from the barn. We keep a very tidy barn and feed a beautiful grass hay twice a day and grain (grain provided by you) once a day (twice if needed).

Horses are turned out daily from dawn to dusk unless it's really nasty weather. Indoor board will be left out when the weather is nice. Stalls cleaned daily when they come in. Cool Alfalfa Pellet/Beet Pulp mashes are feed on really hot days and warm ones on really cold days.

Because we're so small, we're able to take exceptional care of the horses. We don't charge extra for blanketing, fly spray, or doing anything we can to make sure your horse is happy and well cared for! πŸ’–

Outdoor board for dry lot is $350, indoor board for upper pasture is $450. We're located right on the boarder of Sheboygan & Manitowoc County, 5 miles north of Howard's Grove.

PM me to inquire! 😊

One of my lovely client's horse is doing SO well getting going under saddle! 😍

He is a Standardbred trotter, who was primarily (if not entirely) driven in the past. His owner gave him ample time to settle and build a connectionwith him, and did a lot of great groundwork and desensitizing with him which has given him an excellent foundation to build off of! He is a smart boy, who is eager to please (especially for treats, which he now knows and loves!).

I can't wait to see where he's at with after a few more rides, and can't wait to see what he and his owner accomplish together as well! I see lots of lovely trail rides in their future! 😊

What a transformation this girl's made so far! 😍

This mare is one of the few horses left in my rotation for farrier work (only kept around 15 horses), and she had very flat hooves and went through a bout of laminitis as well. She is now gaining heel, the stretched whiteline is almost grown out, and she is moving so much better! You can even see the soft tissue in her heel bulbs has developed into a much healthier shape! I love these rewarding cases! πŸ₯°

I often wish I could go back to full time farrier work, I loved all the friendships made with clients and their horses, and getting to help so many equines move more comfortably... unfortunately it's just not in the cards though, but I'm so grateful to still be able to help a few of my bigger rehab cases πŸ’™

About Me: πŸ‘‹

For those who are new to my page, my name is Rory Potter! My passion for horses began in the saddle, and barns, starting at the age of 5. In that time, we've been fortunate enough to have worked in the stables we've boarded at, until being lucky enough to have our horses at our own farm, which we have lived in for 7 years now.

I have three horses, Alley, Charlie, and Odin, who fill my heart. Alley and Charlie are now retired, and Odin is my up-in-coming show horse. I'm currently working towards my Bronze Medal in Dressage (and hope to go further!) and have also ridden through 3ft Hunter/Jumpers and Novice Level Eventing.

In addition to that, I've spent the last two years, after attending Heartland Horseshoeing School, running my own farrier business, where I brought comfort and soundness to many equines. I took pride in the hoof transformations that were made, and loved hearing from their owners how wonderful their horses move now.

I have also been in Pony Club when I was younger, volunteered extensively at REINS Therapeutic Riding Program, and I have dealt with and ridden a gamut of different horses in various contexts and situations. I truly believe to have learned invaluable lessons being around so many different breeds and situations, having always been a hands-on aid, caring for, handling, training, and rehabbing our equine friends. 😊

Transformation Tuesday (but done a little differently this week)! πŸ‘€

This week for Transformation Tuesday, we are showcasing one of my personal horses, Odin, from when I first went to look at him in August of last year, to his progress from about a month ago!

His fitness has increased significantly, and he has gained a lot of muscle and improved balance. We are working hard to continue to encourage him to lift through his back and withers, and increase his hind end/hock action.

I look forward to seeing how he continues to progress! 😁

"Transformation Tuesday" a day early! πŸ˜‰

Remember this fella? He has been battling laminitis on and off for the past 7 years, and has coffin bone rotation on his right front. The first time I saw him, he had many pressure bands around his hoof, needed angle correcting, balance, and help relieving toe pressure on his right front especially.

Today you can see that most of the bands are grown out, and his hooves look almost normal, with good natural angles!

So happy to see the progress, and how comfortably he moves around now! (He is loving his new Scoot Boot for turnout too) πŸ₯°

Thank you Michelle Potter for the nomination, and thank you to those who have sent me kind messages! I truly love being able to help horses be more comfortable. I'm so sad to have had to cut back to only a handful of clients, but still so grateful for those few, and to be able to help horses in other ways too! πŸ₯°

In honor of the 26th annual Farriers Week celebration (July 7-13, 2024), we collected these tributes from members of the equine community to recognize all of the hard work and dedication farriers put forth to keep horses sound.

πŸ“£ IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT πŸ“£

Hi everyone,
For some time now I have been considering
shifting career paths, since my body has
unfortunately not been holding up to this line of
work, and, with my recent injury, I have needed to
speed up this process.

This has been an incredibly hard decision. I love all
my clients and what I do so much. I wanted to give
a huge thank you to every one of you, I truly
appreciate how wonderful of you all are, and I can't
thank you enough for trusting me to trim your
horses over these past couple years.

If you have any questions or concerns in the
future, please don't hesitate to message me, I'd be
more than happy to help consult.

I will be using this page going forward to continue
to share educational posts, and to hopefully
continue being an equine professional through
another path.

Thank you all again so much for your support! πŸ’™
Sincerely, Rory Potter

Transformation Tuesday! πŸ™Œ

I've been a bit behind on sharing these, so this Tuesday I have THREE transformations for you!

🐴 Horse 1:
This mini has a serious flare up of laminitis last fall, and likely foundered as well. We have been working hard to bring back her toe to shorten the stretched white line and correct the hoof distortion/angles. The first photo is from before her trim when she foundered, the second is after her trim yesterday! Safe to say there were huge improvements over the past few months! 😍

🐴 Horse 2:
Remember this sweet boy I shared a little while back? He has been battling on and off laminitis flare ups for 7 years, and has previously foundered as well, with more coffin bone rotation on his right front. Here is a progress update on him!

The pressure/growth rings are growing out, his white line is grown back to almost normal, and we are beginning to see a healthier hoof angle! Not to mention he is moving GREAT! Still a ways to go in his hoof rehab, especially in getting that toe back on the keft front, but a few trim cycles at around 3 weeks apart will definitely help! 😊 (top photos are after his first trim, and bottom are after his most recent trim)

🐴 Horse 3:
This girl has extremely flat feet, shallow heels and had some hoof wall distortions. She also had a laminitis flare up roughly 2 months ago. The top photos are after her first trim, and bottom are after her 3rd trim.

There's still long road ahead in correcting those hoof angles, and helping her feet to stand up more, but we are off to a great start and this trim cycle she started moving around great again, even putting on a little show in the pasture after! Love to see that! πŸ₯°

πŸ“£ IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT πŸ“£

Unfortunately, I have a strained tricep muscle, and my doctor recommended that I rest it for at least a week. I work hard to keep a healthy trim schedule for my clients, especially those that are rehabbing, so I will be resuming next week as usual, to prevent overgrowth.

I will be messaging my clients scheduled for the next two weeks to see if we can shift the appointments back by a week (this week's will be done next week, and so on).

Thank you all so much for your understanding πŸ’™

πŸ“£ ANNOUNCEMENTS πŸ“£

First, I would love to give a huge thank you to all of my clients for your ongoing support and positive feedback! I am so thrilled to have helped (and continue to help) so many horses on their hoof rehab journeys, and it warms my heart when I get to see the transformations that have been made, and how happy and comfortable they are! Thank you so much for trusting me with your beloved equines! πŸ₯°

β—‹ My apologies for the delayed responses, I have had an overwhelming number of messages coming in, and I'm just getting over being sick, but working hard to get caught up! πŸ‘

β—‹ Currently our books are full! πŸŽ‰
If select openings should present themselves, I will certainly be in touch! πŸ˜‰

β—‹ I will no longer be doing any shoeing, at this time. Aside from the health benefits of a barefoot horse, physically it takes too much of a toll on me. My back simply isn't holding up to excess time bent over under the horse, and I want to stay fit and able to continue trimming as many of my dear clients as I can for years to come! 😊

That being said, I will continue to fit horses for Scoot Boot (you don't have to be a client for that either!), so please message me with any questions regarding those! 😁

Here's a belated "Transformation Tuesday" for you all! πŸ™Œ

Remember this girl? For years she has been battling extremely thin soles, very underrun heels, and would flare out and crack a ton. You can also see that, due to the hoof imbalance, she had significant pressure/growth rings towards the heel of her hooves.

We have been keeping her on a 4 week trim cycle, and using hoof boots to protect her hooves while we work to correct these issues, and it's so wonderful to see how much progress she has made!

Her heel is starting to grow in the right place, creating less pressure, and slowly but surely we are getting her hoof to stand up for better bone alignment and to not flare out as much.

Her left front is almost there, and her right is making great strides and I can't wait to see where we are at in a few more trim cycles!

These things take time, but it's so rewarding when you see where it started! 😊

We have some exciting news here at Green Broke Farm... please welcome Rip to the family!

He will be coming along as my copilot some days (hopefully starting soon!), cause a farrier's gotta have a puppy! πŸ˜†

Happy Friday everyone! 😁

Is there anything YOU would like me to talk about in an upcoming post? πŸ€” Comment below!

For now, here's a sped up video of me trimming a hoof on this sweet, elderly, haflinger mare! πŸ₯°
If only it was actually this fast, right? πŸ˜†
