Meet Enki 🐾💙

Inky’s story is one of heartbreak, second chances, and hope. He was surrendered to Albion Animal Center when his owners couldn’t afford the surgery he desperately needed after being unable to urinate for weeks. The staff was faced with a tough decision, but instead of giving up on him, they chose to fight for his life. They saw the potential in Enki to be an amazing companion, and that decision saved him.

We often take on rescue cases pro bono as our way of giving back. Every dog deserves the chance to succeed, no matter where they started. Enki has been working closely with our David Gumm - Dog Trainer with Ridgeside K9 Ashtabula for the past several weeks, learning structure, obedience, and confidence as he prepares for the next chapter: finding the right forever home.

Two different breeds, two different backgrounds but the same standard of obedience. 💯🐾

Here’s a perfect example of generalization in dog training: holding a down stay in a new, distracting environment. Whether it’s a young service do in training or a seasoned working dog, proofing behaviors in multiple locations builds reliability, confidence, and trust.

We don’t just train dogs we create clarity, structure, and consistency that transfers anywhere life takes you. From the garden center to the airport, your dog should be able to hold it together. 🌎✈️

In this video we’re showing how we use markers the clicker and the verbal “Yes!”. The clicker gives our clients precision, while the “Yes” becomes the everyday replacement.

We also break down:
✅ Continuation/Duration Marker → “keep going”
•
✅ Terminal Marker → “you’re done”
•
✅ Mark & Pay → mark the behavior, then reward

This is all rooted in classical conditioning: the dog learns that the sound or word predicts reward. When we charge the marker properly, it becomes crystal clear communication.

🐾 THE BIGGER PICTURE TO OBEDIENCE

One of the most important parts of training isn’t just teaching a command, it’s proofing it with Distance, Duration, and real world Distractions. We call that the "3️⃣ D's of dog training".

👉 Today we worked on the sit and distance distraction iteration. That means teaching the dog not only to sit, but to hold that sit when I move away... whether I’m one step back, ten steps back, or even out of sight.

💡 Obedience isn’t truly obedience until it’s reliable in real world conditions. That’s why we also focus on generalizing behaviors. A sit in the training room doesn’t mean much unless your dog can sit at Home Depot, in the park, at the fair, or with distractions all around.

✅ Sit + Distance + Distractions + Duration = Proof of obedience.
✅ Multiple Locations = Reliability Everywhere.

This is how we build confident dogs that listen no matter the situation. Training isn’t just about knowing the command it’s about holding the standard anytime, anywhere.
