Meet our December Client Spotlight, Ziti!

Ziti is a 1 year old Plott Hound who lives in Northeast Ohio with her parents, Helaina and Jeremy. Ziti came to Anthony in July of this year to address reactivity, build engagement, reduce dog reactivity, and overall have a better relationship. Helaina said her favorite thing about Ziti is her unique brindle markings, along with how much fun it is to train Ziti.

The most valuable thing Ziti’s parents have learned throughout training is the importance of a solid foundation. Building the foundation allows the dog and handler to build trust and reliability, which can be used to add in more distractions, triggers, and experiences later. If you set your dog up for success in the beginning you can push them later as you grow together. Helaina, Jeremy, and Ziti continue to work on heel and dog reactivity. The more consistent they are with exposing Ziti to dogs in a productive and safe way, the less reactive Ziti is when she encounters them on walks.

“It’s so rewarding to see the massive improvement in only a few months. It really makes all the hours of work worth it. Having a well trained dog isn’t just rewarding for us. Ziti has less anxiety, is more attentive, and her confidence grows every day because of the work and guidance Anthony and the whole team puts in to what they do best. It’s the best decision we made for our family and our girl, Ziti. Thank you!”

Happy 6th Birthday to us!

Yesterday we hosted one of our typical Sunday pack walks, but it felt a little different. For starters, six years ago pack walks were held indoors, but at a completely different space that we rented out for pack walks only. No training took place in that space - just people hanging out, training their dogs, and creating the foundation to a bigger community.

The following year we moved into our first training center off State and Cypress where the indoor walks unfortunately came to an end due to size constraints. During our time there we hosted an open house, built meaningful relationships with clients and their dogs, met some clients turned best friends, continued to build our dog training knowledge, navigated a new business during COVID shut downs, fostered a few dogs, and brought our first apprentice on.

Fast forward to yesterday, we realized that two of the people at the pack walk were two clients (turned employees) that were there from the very start at the original building, our then apprentice is now one of our full-time dog trainers, and we had two clients that made the move with us from the old building to our new space. We also had a former board and train (a service only offered in the new space), along with a person who was joining us for their first pack walk.

Yesterday’s pack walk was a full circle moment of all the changes we’ve undergone over the last six years, and how the best of clients and friends remained with us through it all. We appreciate every client and dog that has stepped through our doors, anyone that has taken the time to recommend us to family, friends, or strangers, those that have taken the time to leave a review, and our repeat clients that keep showing up for us year after year. It doesn’t matter if you met us six years ago or six weeks ago, we’re happy to have you here with us.

What is your favorite Turning Point memory? Feel free to tag us in any photos or videos you have!

As a small business, your support means everything to us!

We are luckily surrounded by such a supportive group of friends, family, and clients, so we wanted to share some of our favorite small businesses so you could rally around them as well. By supporting a small business you are helping support a passion, but you’re also putting food on a family’s table, paying a child’s pay-to-play fee, or helping a canine companion receive treatment.

If shopping small isn’t in the cards for you this year, please consider leaving a review for your favorite small business.

Our November Client Spotlight is joining us for boarding over the holiday! 🍗

Meet Otis Dortmunder, a 2.5 year old Pitbull Mix who lives in Cleveland with his parents, Jen and Ryan. Otis came to us for training in August because his mom was becoming frustrated with some of his behavior on leash. Otis was sound sensitive on walks, would often lay down and “pancake” on walks when passing another dog, and needed some help cleaning up heel. At the assessment we noticed that Otis was lacking confidence, which made living in a city more of a challenge for him.

Jen mentioned her biggest goal for training was to boost Otis’ confidence so he could calmly pass dogs on walks without laying down. Walks used to take a significant amount of time because Otis would spend a good chunk pancaked to the sidewalk. Otis and his parents continue to work on his leash drills, their leash handling, and helping Otis find his calm through long downs and place. When Otis isn’t training he can be found snuggled up with mom.

The most valuable thing Jen learned during training was how to better navigate the environment through better leash handling, allowing her to guide Otis through his uncertainty. “Turning Point and Paige have been great! Otis’s walks are so much more enjoyable for him and for us! We are very grateful!”
