A great big thank you to Lauren Ilene for shooting this. Nelson loves the play yard. The Play Group has a dedicated yard in which, under the supervision of the kennel's enrichment team of Lauren and Dave, the dogs in our care get to interact socially. To play. I've watched Nelson while we walked around the property and within view of other dogs - I've sensed that he would do very well them, and I'm so happy to see him playing here.
Welcome to the Nelson Channel. All Nelson. All the time. And speaking of time, don't let the time run out in which you can adopt this precious little guy for the discounted price of $21 - you have until the end of the day Thursday. I'm not sure how much more I can tell you about my friend that I haven't learned and relayed already. Taking this guy home would be like waking up one morning to find you'd hit the jackpot in the lottery! Like suddenly finding that you're a Billionaire! And if that isn't enough motivation, if you want to see a grown man cry - well, just be the one to adopt my buddy. I'll be crying like a baby. A mini movie I shot on Saturday morning. Nelson plays with his Toucan while I chase him.
Ooh, how I love the rainy days / And the happy way I feel inside
Just kidding - I'm ready for some nice weather. But I did enjoy time in the mist this morning with my buddy 😂
Your best friend in waiting wants to wish you a wonderful weekend. One of these days I hope someone comes to meet him and he steals their heart like he did mine.
I keep thinking how much City Dog Nelson is like our Teddy, in that he's happy to be sitting there playing or chewing a toy - as long as he is somewhat close to you. Low-maintenance, content to lay there and pass the time with his toy. Move around the room and Nelson, like Teddy, will move to get close again just to plop down and begin playing again. From our time (and thankfully, dry weather) in the play yard yesterday.
Yesterday I bought (shrunk once again, the smallest bag yet) a bag of fun size Almond Joys. Five bucks and change. Inflation. Maybe the new normal. And yet, you could arrange to meet my friend here - City Dog Nelson - who, at his age, will give you years of love and happy memories. That meet is free. Should you choose you'd like to open your home to him, until the end of the month - that's until the close of business next Thursday - to adopt him for just $21. There can't be a better value in the whole world today. I can't say enough of what a great dog Nelson is, and of what a friend I've been lucky enough to have made.
I've found that when I spend a great deal of time with one of the shelter's dogs, I learn so much about them - like I have with Nelson here - and I can easily see all that is good about them. All the while I'm with one of our dogs I can witness a dog's declining behavior as well. I've witness nothing but positive growth with my latest buddy, and yesterday confirmed what I felt about Saturday morning's unusually excited jumping and anxiety. It was business as what has become the usual between us. He's incredibly house broken and now, his latest habit is that when we get to the back door he sits down and very calmly waits for me to complete his leash. The last mini movie I shot yesterday, Nelson's grown to enjoy laying on the Koranda bed while he plays with a toy.
Good Saturday morning to you! Nelson seems to really want to meet and play with any dog our path crosses. Normally, that's not too many. He'll whimper just a bit as he looks over towards another dog. This morning my buddy was a little more jumpy than usual and I think that had to do with all the activity at the shelter - people everywhere, dogs being walked by fellow volunteers. He was a touch more restless, and you have to understand this - He'll be excited when he sees me, he'll jump and roll around but in short time he reaches an equilibrium. He walks with me at this point and walks rather well. He settles down - that is, until we hit the play yard. Then it's fun time. Today he met the hollow rubber ball. My goofball.
I learned something new about Nelson today, and that is he does not like motorcycles. Maybe, specifically - a Harley. We'd just started our walk and went out the gate into the employee lot. He never barked before. I was surprised. I realized soon enough what the problem was - and I thought of my Teddy. Teddy is very smart and when we take our walk, if anything seems like it's new, maybe that it doesn't belong wherever it is - he will get anxious, scared, maybe even vocal. I'll assure Teddy that it's okay. Tell him what he is seeing if I know what it is. Slowly bring him closer to the object until he relaxes. I applied that to Nelson this morning with the Harley, but it became very clear. Nelson does not like a motorcycle. We avoided the bike the rest of our walk, then made our way into the play yard. I shot this mini movie this morning, and what I love about it is that I think it captures where our relationship stands. The friends we've become. Have a beautiful weekend.
