The Public Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) is a non-profit organization considered to be one of Ohio’s Our group is dedicated to the rescue of pets in NE Ohio.

Our mission is to rescue stray and/or abused cats and dogs and place them in good forever homes. We provide medical care to rescued animals and foster them in our own private homes. Prior to adoption all rescued animals are spayed/ neutered so that they do not continue the cycle of births that result in more pets than homes. The advantage of adopting a fostered animal is that we know all about o

ur adoptable pets! They have lived with us and we know their personalities, habits, likes and dislikes. We can help you find the perfect companion for your home and lifestyle! We are a progressive, educational, and do engage in programs to stop the over population of kittens through trap, neuter, and return . Everything we do is out of love for the animals, and to prevent disease and illness. PAWS philosophy is that kindness to animals helps build a better world for all of us. Through the generosity of other caring individuals, we can ensure that animals who come into the care of PAWS will never again be alone, hungry, sick, afraid, or in pain.

Meet PAWS Ohio’s newest baby! Poor little boy wandered into a family’s garage as they were unloading their groceries and begged them for help. He’s now in a caring PAWS foster home and will be up for adoption in mid-late October after he’s healthy and neutered. No name yet- but stay tuned! 😻

My name is Simon. My brother Garfunkel was adopted but I’m still waiting for my forever home.
I am inquisitive and very playful. I’ll come running as soon as I hear the bell on my feather wand toy. You should see how high I can jump trying to catch it! You’ll always know where I am too, because I chirp and trill throughout the house.

Meet Franklin, a 1 year old Lab, Australian Shepherd mix. He is currently with his family, but due to resource guarding he needs to be rehomed. More information to follow soon, but Franklin needs to go to a home with no young children. He would be perfect for a person who wants a buddy to hike with and exercise with. Labs, and Australian Shepherds are smart, active, and will be a loyal family member for someone who realizes that he wants an needs a job! Franklin is a very playful and loving big baby. He is a 1 year old yellow lab Australian shepherd mix. He is up to date with all his shots and scheduled to be fixed this October. I do not mind keeping and paying for this appointment as long as he is homed to a good loving family. Frank loves to take walks and is the best cuddler I've ever had. He needs someone that can love him as much as he will love. This boy is a perfect companion for matured people.

Look who showed up on a PAWS volunteer's doorstep? This beautiful, affectionate young lady knew exactly where to go for help when she found herself hungry and homeless. Hi. I’m Boots. I was rescued from the second floor porch of an abandoned home by my foster mom after she was told about a cat crying on the porch for 3 days. With the assistance of the Cleveland Police and the City of Cleveland Division of Animal Care and Control, I was rescued and placed in a PAWS foster home. My foster mom says I’m one of the sweetest kitties she’s ever fostered.

Welcome to PAWS Ohio, Boots! This handsome boy is PAWS's newest intake. Our cat-loving volunteer Shaunita orchestrated his rescue (with the help of the police and animal control) from the 2nd story porch of an abandoned house where he was stuck for several days crying for help. He's now happy and safe with a full belly in a PAWS foster home. Once he's vetted and neutered he'll be posted for adoption. Stay tuned!

Penny is very gentle and lovingly sweet Boxer mix. She is amazing with children of all ages. She is not "timid." She loves attention and absolutely loves everyone except the mailman and FedEx driver! Penny is between 2 - 3 years old and weighs about 60 lbs. She is spayed, housebroken and current with her vaccinations.

Penny came to PAWS after her "Dad" sadly became ill and could no longer care for her.

Libby was surrendered to PAWS because her previous owner could no longer care for her. Shortly after arriving at her foster home, Libby gave birth to three beautiful kittens, who have all been adopted. Libby is now ready to have a family of her own and be someone’s baby girl.
