It's Thanksgiving week, and we'll be closed and out of the office for the holiday on Thursday and Friday. We will see you on Saturday, when we're open for our normal hours of 10 am to 2 pm!
Chloe's family was having a hard time finding a groomer they could afford. Luckily, they knew to come to Neighborhood Pets and ask for help. Our client care specialist and groomer Cat happily took Chloe in for a groom. She got a bath and brush, and she looked and felt so much better! Her family was so thankful!

Some of the tasks we need help with include client assistance, answering phones, preparing pet food for distribution, transportation, and helping at our annual client parties.
On Veteran's Day, we honor all veterans including those who are clients here at Neighborhood Pets.
Monique is a veteran who came in recently with Lucy and Cleo, dogs that had belonged to her late mother. These senior girls were experiencing some skin and ear issues, and they also needed some preventative care, including heartworm tests. We scheduled both dogs to see one of our veterinarians and they were sent home with heartworm prevention, ear ointment, and antibiotics for a skin infection. Now these girls are on the mend and Monique is grateful to be able to access affordable care for Lucy and Cleo.
We're grateful for Monique and all veterans and the personal sacrifices they made to serve our country.

Last week, Greg Murray Photography dropped off a $1,000 donation from his publisher Gibbs M. Smith Inc., which was raised from the recent release of his new book Gotcha Day! We are so thankful for his generosity and the impact this donation will have for our mission!
Matt is a case manager for a local social service agency, and he's been working with Ronique, who faces some substantial barriers to accessing care for her pets. Matt reached out to us to schedule appointments for Ronique's pets for updated shots, flea prevention, and other medical needs (we also supplied Ronique with a new dog crate to replace her broken one!). On the day of this particular photo, Matt transported Ronique and her pets, Tutu and Pepper, to Neighborhood Pets for their free spay and neuter appointments.
In many cases, our services overlap with other social service agencies' work. We value these relationships with other partner organizations! By working together, we can make a greater impact for the community in need.

Jenna reached out to us because her housing required Prince to be up to date on vaccines in order for him to live there, and she was unable to afford the cost of his vaccines at a full-service vet clinic. Luckily, she qualified for our program and we were able to make her an appointment for Prince to see one of our volunteer vets. Now his vaccines are up to date for the year and he got a clean bill of health!
Housing restrictions create barriers for families with pets, and they're a big issue here in Ohio. We often hear from our clients that they are unable to move or find shelter because they want to keep their pets - and we believe they shouldn't have to choose! While it wouldn’t affect Jenna’s specific situation, we’re hopeful to see the Pet Friendly Rental Act pass through the Ohio General Assembly. Meet Khaosity!
Khaosity’s family brought her in because she needed a nail trim but also because she had gotten into a mystery gum/glue situation. It was stuck to her neck and paws and they were having a hard time getting it off. Our team tried to remove as much as they could with clippers, combs, and wet wipes, but ultimately decided she needed to be soaked and soaped. They brought her to Neighborhood Pets the following week, and we removed the rest with Dawn dish soap and gave Khaosity a nice full bath as well. She went home looking good and smelling fresh!
We are so thankful to be able to help pets like Khaosity with our grooming tub on-site, which was added as part of our recent expansion.

Russ encouraged his friend Ray to come to Neighborhood Pets when Ray told him about Baby Girl having a problem with her ear. Ray shared that he had fallen on some pretty hard times, but loved his dog very much and really wanted her to get help. Our team thought it looked like Baby Girl had a hematoma. We encouraged him take Baby Girl to see our partner veterinarianGateway Animal Clinic the next day with one of our Pet Aid vouchers. His friends agreed to help with transportation and support him to make sure Baby Girl got the help she needed. Through conversations with Neighborhood Pets staff and his friends, Ray agreed to have Baby Girl spayed while under anesthesia for her hematoma repair. Thanks to our Pet Aid Fund, all expenses were covered to make sure Baby Girl got the care that she needed.
We are so thankful to be able to support pet owners, and we are glad Baby Girl is feeling better!

One day, Rashonda and her family noticed a cat in a field by itself. When they got closer, he decided to make himself part of their family. She brought him to Neighborhood Pets so we could check him for fleas. We started him on monthly flea prevention, treated him with dewormer, and started his vaccines. While they were here, we took the opportunity to talk to the whole family about the importance of brushing your cat regularly, and keeping their nails trimmed. Providing resources and information to new pet owners is just one way that we help people keep their pets happy and healthy! ❤️

Curtis came to us in distress because he had been struggling to keep up with grooming his dog, Sugar. He tried to get her groomed but got turned away from multiple groomers because they felt she needed to be sedated. Curtis was embarrassed and did not have extra funds this month for the cost of a sedated groom. We gave him a voucher and called Gateway Animal Clinic to schedule a time for him to take Sugar there to be groomed. You can see how amazing she looks now! And she felt so much better, too.

Today is National Feral Cat Day! Today is a chance to celebrate the cats of our community and destigmatize our conversations about them. Feral cats live outdoors and don't often socialize with humans, so if they ever end up at a shelter, they're often labeled unadoptable because they aren’t comfortable being in a home. An important way to protect feral cats is an approach called "Trap-Neuter-Return" (TNR). Individuals or neighborhood groups pull together to trap the cats, have them spayed/neutered, and then return them to their original location. TNR is an effective and humane method for reducing the feral cat population.
We have a feral cat colony here at Neighborhood Pets, and sometimes the cats need medical attention or wander inside the Resource Center. Delilah, Dimitri, and Mali were all part of this cat colony, but they now live inside. We enjoy getting to know their personalities, and we love our blended cat family!

Cocoa’s mom Michelle heard about our free membership for Cleveland families with low income and came in to sign up. While here, she mentioned that her dog Cocoa wasn’t feeling well. Based on Michelle’s description of Cocoa’s symptoms, we knew she needed to see a vet right away. We gave her a voucher to see one of our partnering veterinary clinics as soon as possible, and Michelle reached out again after Cocoa was examined there. It was likely that Cocoa had a life-threatening uterine infection (pyometra) and needed to be spayed ASAP. Based on timing, the clinic that made the diagnosis was not an option for the surgery, so we reached out to The Great Life in Kent, which focuses on high quality spay/neuter surgeries. They were amazing and were able to get her in right away. On top of that, one of our volunteer veterinarians happened to be in that day and started her on antibiotics.
