Natasha and I harvested this past weekend. Quite a bountiful harvest weighing in at 225 lbs of honey which is now bottled and available. Still just $10 for a 1 Lb (16 oz) jar.

Natasha Troicky, Theresa Gorski and I had a blast this past weekend harvesting honey. We ended up 125 lbs of light and sweet spring honey! All bottled up and available for purchase.

First sting of the season yesterday. This is what it looks like when you are mildly allergic. All part of the fun of beekeeping -- but worth it. Only sting number 8 in 5 years so not doing too bad overall.

When you harvest honey you must cut off the wax cappings of the honey comb to get to the honey. I've been saving these wax cappings (what is in the silver tin) from each harvest and now I'm working on cleaning and reclaiming it into pure wax. To do this first you dump the wax cappings into a crock pot and melt them all. After it hardens and you end up with these coffee cake looking rounds. The brown crumbles that you see are impurities and dirt that sank to the bottom as it was hardening. Next you scrap off as much of the brown stuff as you can and then remelt. Then pour through an old t-shirt or coffee filter and set into molds. After it hardens the result is pure and clean Ohio City beeswax!
