Well we weathered Hurricane Beryl with minimal damage (a few big trees went down), the blue dot is us. We’ve been running on minimal power from generators ($125 per day in fuel). They’re estimating that power will be restored no later than Sunday so for now we’ll keep limping along.

This pair of Red Spotted Gold Severums has a group of fry in a community tank with 7 Altums, 6 Red Headed Tapajos Geos, another pair of Severums and a Gold Nugget Pleco. They’re holding their own so far but I’ll probably remove the babies tomorrow if they still have any.

Getting some interesting color variations coming out of our Harlequin lines. It’s a little hard to see but the yellow color shows in streaks in the fins, especially the caudal.

Another very large spawn from one of our 50% Santa Isabel F1 Black Lace females (+/D, +/pb, +/bg). This one is paired with a nice Pinoy Clown

06/11/2024

A nice batch of 50% Santa Isabel F2 parent raised juveniles. Most of these will be kept back to choose future breeders from. Parents are F1 50% Santa Isabel Black Lace that are recessive for pb and bg

Well I didn’t get them moved from the community tank in time

A young pair of F2 50% Santa Isabel Silvers that are just about to spawn. I think I’ll set them up in a 40 breeder and see if they’ll parent raise right off the bat.

Here’s a new young pair out of our Harlequin project. The male is a dark Harlequin Blushing (+/D, Hq/S, +/pb). I included a photo of both sides of him so you can see how well patterned he is. The female is a Blue Harlequin (+/Hq, pb/pb). Both are 25% Santa Isabel. We have two spawns from them so far.

Half Black outcross. The female is a young 25% Santa Isabel Harlequin Zebra (Hq/Z). Hopefully I can breed the offspring back to one of my other Half Blacks to get back to a decent percentage of homozygous half blacks in the next generation.

Spawn from an F1 50% Santa Isabel Black Lace pair. They are heterozygous for pb and bg. It’s one heck of a spawn. My counting app has it as 1,307 eggs. There will be a maximum of 20 DD BSP’s and about twice that number of single dark BSP’s . All will be 50% Santa Isabel F2’s.

Here’s a good example of the ambiguity that can exist when sexing angelfish by only considering the breeding tube shape. This is a proven pair, the Silver is obviously the female as she is quite ripe with eggs, but look at the size and shape of the male black laces tube.

We crossed an Albino Bulgarian ghost we acquired from Slawek Gasiorowski with one of our Sunsets. This is the F2 results from a cross of two of the F1 Blushing (photos of parents in comments). We didn’t separate out the albino fry but one has survived to this point. We’re pleased with the look of the fry so we will put in the effort to raise out the blushing albino line.
