Happy 5 Year Work Anniversary to Bethany!! 💖💖
Happy Five Year Work Anniversary to Bethany!!!
Bethany has been there with us from the very beginning!! I hired her just a few months after starting Boss. A true blessing in disguise. The universe conspired to connect us very soon after Boss K9’s inception. Together we learned how to hire, fire, manage, and create systems and procedures which would later streamline Boss K9. We have been through so much together! She has been my ride or die through thick and thin. From a small tiny building to a massive build out and moving the business altogether to a new location, she has been there! Bethany’s contributions are endless. I am so grateful for her everyday! Here is a little photo dump over the past five years! Cheers! 🥂
‼️Chubbs Before & After ‼️
In the first clip you can see Chubbs arriving to our facility day one of his board and train. In this clip we are walking around with another dog. He came out the car guns blazing as soon as he saw us. We could not get too close to him because of how powerful and intent he was on attacking the dog we had with us.
What is not shown here is how that intensity only amplified as soon as he got into the facility to find that there were many more dogs in our shop. When he used to exit the crate he would attempt to charge other dogs who were safely in their crates. It took a long time for Chubbs to start changing his attitude about his new roommates. He was even very sketchy with the staff prior to forming relationships with us. He is a very intense, powerful, and pushy dog! As those walls started to come down we could see the level of depth he really had. He was hiding a lot of insecurity. It was a process, but little by little we were able to get him comfortable around other dogs and with himself.
In clip two you can see him back with his owners practicing walking in a heel position with another dog around. This was the first time his owners have been able to do anything remotely close to this. Chubbs was getting used to the idea that these rules do in fact apply with his people as well.
We are so incredibly proud of how far Chubbs has come. We think he has even more potential to come. This was a crucial first step. Good job Chubbs and the BK9 team for helping this dude make leaps and bounds towards a healthy lifestyle! ✨
Sneak Peak ✨
Here is a little insight into a mini training session we did with Baxter and Onyx. Baxter is running through some obedience training. We worked on recall (Baxter come) and duration bedstay (bed). Little man is doing a great job. Onyx is relaxing on her bedstay while we work Baxter. We talk a little bit about some end goals that we completed with the dogs. Including long duration bedstay’s for our Owners who work from home, and a variable reward schedule.
SNOW DAY!!!! ❄️❄️❄️
We can’t think of a better way to celebrate MLK Day than to romp around in the snow. It is the first time these two 6 month old puppies, Remi and Murphy, have ever seen snow! 😆😆
To be honest, it has been YEARS since we have seen snow fall like this in Cleveland. We are loving it, and so are most of the dogs! 😊😉 There are a couple of dudes here that don’t like the cold, but the ones who love the snow in the group far outweigh the ones who do not. We are grateful for this beautiful snow day.
We had to reschedule all of our appointments today because of how bad the roads are around the shop. Driving down the street all you can see is car after car stuck in the street. We did not want to risk our clients getting stuck too. We will see all of our new drop offs tomorrow!🤞🤞
Today we will be shoveling snow, drinking something warm, and watching the dogs delight in how magical the snow is. Since it is MLK Day we will be also listening to him speak. It’s a little tradition we have to listen to his speech, I Have A Dream, to honor who he is and what he contributed to this world.

Today was a big day for our Dog Trainer Apprentice, Kayla! Dexter is the first dog she trained almost completely solo. Being able to see her work from start to finish, and the owner’s reaction, is nothing short of an accomplishment. I think all Dog Trainers remember vividly the first few dogs they ever train. I know I do! You learn a ton from them. They teach you even more about yourself. Dexter went home looking fabulous today. We could not be more proud of Kayla, and all of her hard work with Dexter. We are so grateful she is on our team and under our wing. We can’t wait to help her further develop her natural talent. One of our favorite things we love to do at Boss K9 is to invest into the education of all of our employees. Kayla is only just beginning!! There is so much more to learn, but she is certainly on the right track. Dexter’s life is changed for the better! 💗Congratulations Kayla!! 🥳🥳
Yesterday was Jack’s 1 year anniversary as a Boss K9 graduate!!!! He came to us for extreme reactivity and neurotic behaviors. Today, one year post board and train, we got him out on a kayak. This has always been a huge goal. Something that his owners had to build up to as well. They have truly put the work into him after he went home. We meet up every month with them for their free monthly follow up. They reach out to us whenever they have a question, or need any touch up work. HARD 👏 WORK 👏 PAYS 👏 OFF 👏 They went from not being able to walk Jack or take him in a car, to him being part of their everyday fun active lifestyle! Here is to many more years of growth and progress!! 🥂
Want to know the first training session you should do with your puppy?! ENGAGEMENT! Poppy is a 5 month old Blue Heeler. Upon arrival she was nervous around new people. When stepping towards her she would try to flee. We started out on the ground slowly tossing her high value treats, which encouraged her to move in closer to me. From there we started to teach her that “when you follow me you get rewarded!” From there we started to teach her “sit” and the markers “good” + “yes!”
This is a great, simple way to start teaching your dog to pay attention to you. Once you have this basic skill taught it will make obedience training so much easier, because you have already taught them to be engaged with you. It is also great for bond building and confidence building. 👌👏❤️
Today was a beautiful day for lessons at Edgewater. Here we are with Atlas tightening up his heel and reactivity on the leash. Atlas completed a board and train with us in January for food aggression and dog aggression. We offer free in-person follow ups to all of our board and train graduates, so that we can easily step in to help when owners need our support 👌🙌
Long recall clip with Ranger! Ranger is going home in one week. He has already breezed through his foundational obedience, and is now doing off leash obedience. This last week will give us the opportunity to really proof these new rules off leash in multiple locations with different types of distractions. Before we go to a new place with new distractions the behavior must be accomplished on our home base. If you are unable to get the behavior looking good around your home you definitely will not be able to control your dog around a bunch of distractions in a new pubic place. Build in layers 👏
Off leash training at the park! Loki is going home this week, so we have been putting the final touches on his training. He came to us for human aggression. What’s worse is that this aggression was also directed towards his owners. When we see this occur it’s a major red flag. It tells us that their ability to form a connection with another human is seriously lacking. This can be from a variety of factors, but most of the time it is either directly related to genetics, or a major lack of direction and respect in the household. In this case, Loki, has displayed the want and ability to form a connection with us. This tells us that when he goes home his owners are going to have to majorly shift the way their interactions with him look. We believe that both his owners and Loki are up to the task. Can’t wait for him to show his people what’s he has learned! 😊
How many days have you been in quarantine for?!? I’m pretty sure these two have been stuck at home for a while.
😂😍
Cora and Cooper’s mom submitted this video to Boss K9 to show us all what they have been up to. We love seeing our clients get creative with their pets! For some people this is the most time they have ever spent with their dog or dogs. I want to encourage you all to really focus on your bond and structure with your pups during this time. Make the best out of this wild circumstance we are all in.
👏
In addition to having your dog jump over random objects, another thing you can try is hide and seek. I like to to put my dog in a sit and wait command while I go into another room to hide. Once I am ready for them to come find me I whistle or say okay. This is hugely mentally stimulating for your pups.
