It may be the first day of fall but it’s still warm enough to get your paws wet, if you ask Luna! 🍂☀️

Luna is a very special pup that has been so overlooked. Here is what her field trip buddy has to say: “If I had a high tech device that could see things my eyes can’t and I pointed it at LUNA, I’m pretty sure it would show beams of joy all around her! That’s what it feels like when I’m with Luna on walks and field trips. She’s a beautiful soul with such positive energy, you just love spending time with her!”

This loving lady may be 8-years-old but is just as spunky and energetic as can be! Luna is known as the “fearless field tripper” for her adventurous spirit and love for new things, like taking a dip in the lake or creek. She’s house-trained and has excellent manners. Luna isn’t a fan of cats but may do well with other dogs and kids pending a meet and greet. She enjoys car rides, playing with toys, walks, and snuggling. Luna is a total lover who is the perfect combo of happy, gentle, and sweet.

Our shelter is at capacity with so many wonderful animals that we are reducing adoption fees to $10 for adult dogs and cats and $50 for kittens TODAY, September 21! Snuggle season is upon us and it’s the perfect time to fall in love with a new best friend, like Caesar...

Caesar is a uniquely brindled 4-year-old fella with a heart as big as his name. This gentle pup is looking for a new home that he can fill with love, cuddles, and plenty of tail wags. Caesar is the perfect mix of laid-back and playful. He enjoys leisurely walks, sunbathing, and lounging by your side while you binge-watch your favorite shows. But don’t be fooled by his relaxed nature—he loves a good game of fetch or a romp in the yard, too!

Not only is Caesar handsome but he has a goofy personality that adds to his charm. He is very friendly with new people, other dogs, and has done great with children. He appears to be house-trained and is a very well-mannered good boy. Caesar has a soft spot for cuddles and is truly a love bug!

Looking for a wingman? Goose will have your back! 🤗

Goose is 2-years-old and is the ultimate good boy! He’s the kind of dog that’s always wagging his tail, ready to bring a smile to your face. Goose is incredibly smart, eager to please, and picks up on doggie cues quickly. He’s a young guy with a playful spirit, always ready for an adventure, a game of fetch, a long walk, or rolling around in the grass. He especially loves BIG stretches and behind scratchies!

Although Goose is very gentle and friendly, he may not show that off in his kennel well. The shelter environment can be stressful for some dogs and he needs someone to give him a chance to see what a perfect gentlemen he is just like you see here. He may take some time to warm up to you but once he does, you will see that he’s definitely best friend material! Goose is playful with other dogs, has done well with kids, and may do well with cats l. He has great energy and would love a home with a family where he can be active and give you all of the love!

Goose is as handsome as he is sweet and will surely make your heart melt when you meet him. If you’re looking for a fun-loving and loyal companion, Goose is your guy!

Bread Crumbs is here to report that our food pantry and laundry room have nothing left… but bread crumbs! Will you help out Bread Crumbs and his four-legged friends on this ? 🍞🐾

We’re in need of dry cat food, wet cat and dog food, and new or USED blankets, towels, and sheets. If you have a bag of old bedding you’ve been meaning to get rid of, we will happily take it off your hands!

Update: Adopted!

Zags is proof that chubbiness and charm go hand in paw. 🫶🐱

Meet Zags, he’s a 20-pound sourdough loaf who has stolen the hearts of many here at the APL! He’s hoping his GQ model looks land him in his new home soon. When he’s not busy taking phone calls in his office or striking a pose, you will find Zags lounging in in a cozy spot or taking up a lap for snuggles. He’s very laid back and mellow making him the best preciously plump couch potato around.

One thing about Zags is his cuddle contract is exclusive and he wants to be the one and only kitty in your life. However, we know affectionate Zags has enough love to go around! As a 9-year-old chonk, Zags is extra focused on his health and wellness at the moment. He’s looking for someone to help him get his steps in (see below) so he can happily spend all nine of his lives with you.

Life will be richer with Cash by your side! 💸🐶

Cash is a 3-year-old short and stocky queen who has somehow been looking for a new home since January. She’s loved by all of the staff and volunteers for her quirky antics! Cash struts down the halls and will even stop to roll over for belly rubs as people walk by. She loves nothing more than pets and attention and playing in the play yard! Whether she’s jumping in the pool or playing fetch, you will be always have a smile on your face around this spunky gal!

This adorably spotted sweetie has spent time in a foster home where they learned that she would love to cuddle all day if she could. Cash may take some time to warm up to your routine but with some patience and lots of pets, she will be a loyal and loving companion. She is presumed to be mostly deaf but that doesn’t stop her from being the happy-go-lucky pup she truly is. Cash found herself at the APL after being attacked by a previous resident dog so she would thrive as your one and only canine cutie in the home.

You will certainly win big by adopting Cash! Help this priceless lady find the loving family she deserves.

As autumn rolls in, we can't help but FALL in love with sweet senior Joey! 🐶🍂

This 10-year-old fella is spending time in a foster home until his new family finds him. Joey can come off as shy at first meeting and will need a patient and cozy retirement home with someone who will help him gain confidence as he settles in. Once he adjusts to his new space, Joey will look at you with his big, adorable brown eyes begging for pets!

On top of being super cute, Joey is house/crate trained and very well-mannered, oftentimes a great benefit to adopting an older pup. He loves to stroll around the neighborhood and has enjoyed the company of his foster’s mellow and smaller resident dog. Joey has done well co-existing with their resident cats as well. He’s an 11 pound little gentleman who can’t wait to share his big heart with someone special.

Bella will make you do a double take with her adorable looks and even more adorable personality. She’s 5-years-old and is searching for a quiet and cozy home where she can be the center of attention. Bella may take some time to warm up to new people but once she does, she will win you over with her quirky charm.

When this chunky 92-pound lady comes out for walks, her “hello world!” personality shines and she says hi to to anyone passing by. Bella enjoys romping around the play yard and lots of b***y scratches. She likes to do her own thing but we can tell she will be an excellent couch potato to snuggle with. Bella would thrive in a calm and loving home where she can build her confidence and feel secure. She will definitely be a loyal sidekick and has a heart as big as she is!

Cuteness unleashed, meet Rocky! 🥰

Rocky is an 8-year-old, 34 pound Spaniel mix with a gentle heart. He’s looking for a quiet retirement home where he can be someone’s loyal sidekick. Rocky may be on the shy side when you first meet but once he warms up, he wants to be right by your side with his head in your lap.

This fluffy fella enjoys car rides and leisurely strolls around the neighborhood. However, he seems perfectly content just hanging out with his people on the couch too. Rocky has lived with another dog and would likely do fine with a canine companion or being the center of your attention. The way to his heart is definitely hot dogs!

Bastian is a 4-year-old cat who was left abandoned in a closed box at a fire station in Cleveland. He was found with open wounds on his legs, chest, neck, and a swollen face. He will need ongoing care and medication to continue his recovery journey to become the healthy and happy kitty he deserves to be.

Just this past week, six puppies were surrendered to us and all of them tested positive for parvovirus, oftentimes referred to as “parvo”. Parvo is a highly contagious and life-threatening disease that causes severe illness, particularly in puppies and unvaccinated dogs. This group of kitties found themselves at the Cleveland APL after our humane investigations team found them abandoned, left in a filthy home piled with garbage. They were all very thin, dehydrated, flea infested, and had hair loss and skin infections. Our veterinary team was able to provide them with the care they needed to become the healthy cats they are today. They may still look a little rough around the edges but they are all incredibly sweet and friendly and are now available for adoption!

Marsha is a 4-year-old Pit Bull mix who was found emaciated in a backyard by our humane investigations team. She was very emaciated, infested with fleas, and had scabs and sores all over her body. Our veterinary team assessed her needs and she’s receiving the treatment she needs to continue to heal. Marsha is well on her way to being a happy and healthy dog who will be ready for adoption soon.

We have another staff favorite on our hands! 🐈‍⬛ Harp is a 5 year old pretty little 6.5 pound kitty who you can tell if ready to get out of here! As soon as you walk by her, she is up and ready to try to entice you to pet her. It’s tough to just walk by her and not shower her with all of the pets she deserves! Harp’s friendly and charming nature is why she is one of our many staff favorites. This loving gal came in with her kittens who have since found homes, so now it’s Harp’s turn! She arrived with an eye injury which is healing nicely and doesn’t seem to hold her back from making friends with everyone. As long as Harp has someone to love her and cozy spots to relax in, she’s a happy kitty. Does Harp sound like the furry friend you’ve been searching for? ADOPTED! We have lonely little guinea pig looking for a new home! 🏠 Linen is a 2.5 year old fella who makes eating lettuce look too cute (listen closely for munching sounds). It was reported in his previous home that he’s very friendly, likes to be held, and has been around kids. Guinea pigs can make fun pets but keep in mind they need a large cage and would even enjoy a space where they can run freely. They love fresh veggies like carrots, spinach, and fruits like oranges to get their Vitamin C. These furry creatures are typically social and like to be with other guinea pigs, so Linen may welcome a sibling. If you’re looking for less barks and meows and more adorable guinea pig squeaks, come into the APL to meet Linen!

✨We asked our staff “If you could adopt any senior from the Cleveland APL, who would you adopt?” to celebrate our upcoming Senior Saturdays – see who they picked!✨ We have so many older cats and dogs looking for a second chance at a happy life. A more mature pet has so much to offer anyone looking to adopt. This Saturday and every Saturday in October adoption fees are waived for all cats and dogs 7 years or older thanks to Ken Ganley Automotive Group!

PACK WALK June 2022, Part 2 ***** SKYLER is a lady who knows what she wants! She kept up for most of the pack walk but when a lady poops out, she knows who to call — the APL’s Concierge Service On Wheels! She got a lift into the wagon and then was on the move with her hiking buddy Emily close by to make sure it was a safe ride. On the way back to the APL, Skyler ordered a cool beverage and treats to be delivered to her kennel for when she returned. Now that’s service!
