🚀🇺🇸 We told Dr. Hartfield she could take a few days off for Independence Day… we didn’t realize she’d launch herself into orbit!

Just a friendly reminder that all of our clinics will be closed July 3rd–5th as our team celebrates the holiday. We’ll be back and ready to care for your pets after the holiday weekend!

If your pet needs prescription refills, please request them before Thursday, July 2nd, to ensure they are ready before we close for the holiday.

Have a safe, fun Fourth of July, and try not to celebrate harder than your veterinarian! 🐾🎆

Did you know ma*****na toxicity is one of the more common toxicities we see in pets?

Join Dr. Hartfield on News On 6 this Friday at 9:15 AM as she discusses ma*****na toxicity in dogs and cats, what signs to watch for, and what to do if your pet is exposed.

Common signs of ma*****na toxicity include:
• Lethargy or extreme sleepiness
• Wobbliness or loss of coordination
• Dilated pupils
• Drooling
• Vomiting
• Urinary incontinence
• Changes in heart rate
• Tremors or seizures in severe cases

If you suspect your pet has gotten into ma*****na, edibles, THC products, or CBD products, please seek veterinary care right away. Most importantly, be honest with your veterinary team about what your pet may have ingested. There is absolutely no judgment—we are here to help your pet receive the best care possible.

Many people have heard of Bobcat Fever (Cytauxzoonosis), but few realize just how cats become infected.

This infographic breaks down the disease cycle and shows exactly how a single tick bite can lead to a life-threatening illness.

Here's the short version:

A tick feeds on an infected wild cat (most commonly a bobcat), picks up the parasite Cytauxzoon felis, and later transmits it to a domestic cat through a tick bite. Once inside the cat, the parasite multiplies rapidly and can cause severe illness, organ failure, and death.

Unfortunately, we are seeing an alarming number of cases this year. It seems like every week we are diagnosing another cat with Bobcat Fever. Many of these cats become critically ill within just a few days of showing symptoms.

Watch for:
• Fever
• Lethargy
• Loss of appetite
• Hiding or acting withdrawn
• Pale or yellow gums
• Difficulty breathing
• Weakness or collapse

If your cat develops any of these signs, seek veterinary care immediately. Time matters with this disease.

World Pet Memorial Day is a reminder that the love we share with our pets never truly leaves us. 🌈

For so many of us, pets are more than animals — they are family members, best friends, protectors, and constant companions through every season of life. They celebrate our happiest moments with us and stay beside us through the hardest ones.

Today, we honor the pets who may no longer be physically by our side, but whose paw prints remain forever on our hearts. The memories, the routines, the unconditional love, and even the quiet moments shared together are never forgotten.

If you feel comfortable, we would love for you to share a photo or memory of a beloved pet in the comments as we remember them together today. ❤️🐾

We have talked about this before, but we are going to continue educating because it seems like every single week we are seeing cats diagnosed with Bobcat Fever (Cytauxzoonosis).

This disease is running rampant this year, and it is VERY SERIOUS and LIFE-THREATENING. Sadly, many cats have already lost their lives to this disease.

We are not sharing this information to scare anyone. Our goal is to educate pet owners and help you recognize the signs early so you can seek veterinary care as quickly as possible.

Bobcat Fever is a tick-borne disease that can progress rapidly. Common signs include:
• Fever
• Lethargy
• Loss of appetite
• Pale or yellow gums
• Difficulty breathing
• Weakness or collapse

If you notice any of these symptoms, contact your veterinarian immediately. Early diagnosis and treatment can make a difference. Noticing any of these symptoms is an emergency, and should not wait.

The biggest thing you can do to help protect your cat is keep them on a prescription flea and tick preventative year-round. Products such as NexGard Combo and Revolution Plus can help reduce the likelihood of infection by killing ticks before they have the opportunity to transmit disease. While no preventative is 100% effective, it is one of the best tools we have to help protect our feline companions.

Keeping cats indoors whenever possible can also significantly reduce their exposure to ticks and other outdoor hazards.

Please take a moment to read through the flyer and share this information with fellow cat owners. The more people who know what to watch for, the more cats we may be able to help.

If you have questions about flea and tick prevention for your cat, give us a call. We are happy to help.
