It is with a heavy heart that I have to announce the passing of the bestest boy ever, BB Bey+/, yesterday morning (8/9/21) at the age of 31.
We bought BB in 1998, and he was my first ever show horse. My first horse show with him was Scottsdale, and I was so nervous for my first ever walk/trot/canter class that at the end in the line up, I reached down and hugged his neck because he was absolutely perfect. I went on to show him to multiple regional championships for many years, and then started showing him over fences. He continued being the best, most patient and willing horse I have ever had, again winning multiple regional championships, and going on to be Canadian Reserve National Champion Arabian Regular Working Hunter in 2003.
BB then retired from the show ring, and went on to be the best, most perfect lesson horse any one could imagine. He taught countless children how to ride, gave pony rides to younger kids, and was the epitome of gentleness, kindness, and patience with kids wanting to pet him, brush him, love on him, and take pictures with him. Even into his 30's, he would still give the occasional walk/trot lesson, and love the extra attention from 'his kids'. On his final day, he still wore a gifted leather halter from one of his kids, with "Beautiful BB" engraved on the side.
BB was the best beginner horse I could have ever hoped for, and he helped me mature into the rider I am today. He developed along with me, from taking care of me as a kid in my first w/t/c classes, to trusting me enough to jump over courses without hesitation. He helped me learn how to teach, knowing when to listen to the rider on his back, or to me on the ground. He was patient, gentle, and kind. He was spunky until his last day, trotting and snorting and flagging his tail like a proper Arabian should.
I am so thankful I got to be here these past couple of months to be with him again. BB Bey, you are and will always be the bestest boy, and you will be greatly missed here at Turtle Rock.
