PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE WATCH OUT FOR ALL OF YOUR FURBABIES DURING THIS VERY FRIGID WEATHER!!! PLEASE CHECK OUT OUR TIPS BELOW:

*Keep your animals inside accept for very quick potty breaks

*Check your car for sleeping cats. Outdoor cats sometimes sleep under the hoods of care to keep warm. When the motor is started, the cat can be injured or even killed. To prevent this, bang loudly on the hood to give a sleeping cat a chance to escape.

*Keep your dog on a leash in snow and ice. More dogs are lost during the winter than during any other season. Dogs frequently lose their scent in snow and ice and become lost. They may panic in a snowstorm and run away.

*Never leave your dog or cat alone in a car during cold weather. Just as the inside of a car left in the summer sun can become unbearably hot in a matter of minutes, a car parked out in the cold can act as a refrigerator in the winter and your companion animal could freeze to death.

*Provide a warm coat or sweater for your animal. While this may seem like a luxury it is a necessity for many dogs, particularly short-haired breeds. Look for one with a high collar or turtleneck that covers your dog from the base of her tail on top and to the belly underneath.

*Beware of antifreeze, a lethal poison for dogs and cats. Animals are attracted to antifreeze because of its sweet taste, but even in very tiny doses it is a lethal poison for dogs and cats. Thoroughly clean up any spills from your car and, to prevent accidental poisonings, use animal-friendly products that contain propylene glycol rather than the traditional products containing ethylene glycol.

*Delay that trip to the grooming parlor until spring
Never shave your dog down to the skin in winter. Instead leave their coat longer, which provides more warmth. Longer fur will require frequent brushing due to dry winter air and static electricity. Also, when you bathe your dog, make sure she’s completely dry before you take her out for a walk.

*When you do let them out to potty, please bring them in as quickly as possible to protect the pads of their paws from frostbite.

We would like to give a huge shout out of thanks to the Horst family and the Slops team for hosting an amazing trivia night in December!!! It was such a fun night and all of the proceeds came to the shelter in memory of our friend Jason Horst (J Ho). We believe he was there that night in spirit and would also be so thankful for our community’s support of the shelter, thank you one and all❤️🐾🎉🐶🐾🐱❤️🐾

Hello just sending in an update! We adopted Betty Spaghetti (previously Caitlin) and we are just smitten. She fits right in with our family, loves our kids and is a big mommas girl 🥰 we couldn’t be happier to have given our belly rub loving little girl her forever home !!!

Ozzy and Lilly are sweethearts and they're doing great. I started them on glucosamine immediately and they are running around like puppies! They're well behaved and very loving!

Meet Joy!!

Joy is a super sweet lady that is ALWAYS smiling!! We think she is 7+ years old and is up to date on all of her vaccines. Joy loves nothing more than spending time with you. She does great on a leash and just prefers to sit by you and take it all in while smiling the whole time. ONLY A FEW DAYS LEFT! 🐕 In honor of Betty White and her devotion to animals, the Quad Cities and Clinton Hy-Vee stores are hosting the 4th Annual Pet Challenge. We are collecting donations of pet food and supplies to give to Humane Society of Scott County, Quad City Animal Welfare Center, and the Clinton Humane Society, Jan. 3 - 15.
