, do you think you are good enough to go there? Let's do a test to see! Q1) How many lies do you think you've told in your life? What do you call someone who tells lies? Q2) Have you ever stolen anything that didn't belong to you regardless of it's value? What do you call someone who steals? Q3) Have you ever used God's name in vain( ex. oh my G-d, or as a cuss word)? That's called blasphemy and it's very serious. Q4) Jesus said if you look at a person to lust( sexually desire) them, that you commit adultery with that person in your heart. Have you ever looked with lust? If you said yes to any of these then you have broken God's law, the Ten Commandments(and we only looked at 4!)
So if God were to judge you by the Ten Commandments, would you be innocent or guilty? Bearing in mind if you have broken His law, you are guilty! Would you go to heaven or hell? If you are honest with yourself, you know that you are guilty and would go to hell. But you might say, "I think the good I have done will outweigh my bad, so God will let me go". Well try that in a court of law. You are guilty of committing serious crimes and you say to the judge " I've done alot of good things, so I think you should let me go". Is the judge going to let you go? Of course not! Because those "good" deeds have nothing to do with the fact that you broke the law! It is the same with God, He is not going to let you go, because you broke the law, "good deeds" have nothing to do with it. There are no amount of good deeds you can do to earn your way into heaven. God is righteous and just and must by nature punish sin. Again, I implore you to take an honest look at yourself and realize you have broken God's law and would be punished as a lawbreaker, which is eternity in hell. But here is the Good news! 2,000 years ago Jesus became a human being and suffered and died on the cross to take the punishment for our sin! It's like this-you and I broke God's law and are in the courtroom with the punishment about to be served when someone you don't even know stepped in and paid your fine for you-you are free to go even though you're guilty! That is what Jesus did on the cross-you broke God's law, but Jesus paid your fine so you wouldn't have too, out of His great love for us He did this! There are 2 things you have to do in order to be saved : you must repent (turn from) your sins and trust in Christ. The moment you do that God will give you a new heart with new desires so that you can live for Him, also having eternal life!
