We are home safe from the USDF South East Breeders Championship!

First and foremost, we celebrated Serina Tart and Rock Royale RSW as a confirmed FEI team! They showed PSG for the first time winning all of their classes plus two High Score Awards! Serina purchased Rocky as a training level, late cut gelding, and has done a truly remarkable job developing him herself. Rocky was bred by Theresa Schnell // Rock Solid Warmbloods and has made me want at least 10 more horses by Rock Solid 🙈

Bella Dea FSH continued her success under saddle winning the 4 Year Old Materiale Grand Champion! The Jackpot class tempted us to try our first traditional USDF test where Dea placed 1st and brought us home a little money!
Dea also went on to recieve Reserve Champion 4 Year Old Sport Horse Prospect in-hand 😍

What a wonderful show held by Made in the Shade / Jovee Dressage Pony Championship - Competitor's Group. Angie Mirarchi puts so much effort into this show and it makes it so much fun as a competitor to be a part of!

Another big thank you to Jan Arnold with The Shop at Wit's End for going out of her way to rescue me from a boot fiasco!

NEW - the Society is thrilled to announce that Nick of Diamond (Toto Jr. x Diamant Heroique/Johnson) is now fully approved through performance for AHS breeding. Nick has a talent for Grand Prix and the character of a true gentleman. He was the 2023 NASST dressage champion at the Hilltop Farm site with a fantastic score of 86.5%. 🏅Nick is owned by Roxanne Christenson and was bred by Barbara Lichtendahl & Bertil Pepper of Southbrook Stables. He is standing at Wilderness Farm in Wellington, FL.

Bella Dea absolutely loved her Equitron-Pro treatment with Lena today ❤️🦄❤️

I am always looking for ways to keep my horses feeling their absolute best and I was so excited to learn Lena Frick has one of two systems in the US right here in NC!
The best way I can describe our first Equitron-Pro experience would be a painless PEMF session that carried the stronger therapeutic benefits of Shockwave.
Even though we didn’t have any specific treatments in mind for Dea when we started, Lena was able to help me identify hidden areas of muscle tension and recommend several targeted exercise modifications that will be the most beneficial for Dea in our training.
As we talked more, I started to understand the full range of benefits for horses with injuries, lameness, ligament damage, and slow healing, so many amazing benefits!

Bossanova is a 2 year old out of Cathi's Wilderness Farm's Barcelona, by Beck's (BENICIO 👀 × Desperados)...I think it goes without saying that I'm a little more than obsessed with the B line Hanoverian's and so it's even more exciting that Bossanova closely shares lineage we believe in so deeply here!!

I stand and watch you a little longer because regardless where life takes you, I know the place that will forever call themselves home for you. Where the love for you is bountiful and endless. Where your success was dreamed of long before you ever even existed. The place who made sacrifices with no guarantees of return, planning the opportunity in front of us, now.
So I watch you a little longer; in your field, the cross ties, your training, and over meals to make sure I don’t miss a thing. You see, I was once burnt out by external pressures. Unintentionally created by highlighting insufficient improvements and silencing fears.
So I watch you a little longer, to learn you, protect you, and to take the time to make you perfectly you.
I watch you a little longer for the opportunity to witness a small part of someone’s very big dream come true.

Natural Horsemanship and Dressage Horses

Natural horsemanship is a training philosophy that is based on understanding and working with the horse's natural instincts and behaviors. It emphasizes creating a partnership with the horse through communication, trust, and respect, rather than using force or punishment. This approach is based on the principles and techniques used by wild horse trainers, who are able to build a strong relationship with horses without the use of force...Dressage, on the other hand, is a highly skilled and disciplined form of riding that showcases the harmony and communication between horse and rider through a series of movements and exercises. Dressage requires a high level of precision, balance, and suppleness from both horse and rider.

While traditional competition training methods may rely on force and strict techniques to achieve a certain level of performance from the horse, a natural horsemanship approach can greatly benefit the dressage training scale. By working with the horse's natural instincts and behaviors, a natural horsemanship rider can build a strong and trusting partnership with the horse, which is the foundation for successful dressage. In natural horsemanship, the focus is on developing a strong foundation of trust and communication with the horse, rather than just pushing the horse to perform certain movements. This approach allows the horse to feel safe and secure in their interactions with the rider, which leads to a more relaxed and willing horse. In dressage, relaxation is a key element in achieving smooth and fluid movements, and a relaxed and happy horse is more likely to perform at their best. Natural horsemanship also emphasizes the importance of understanding the horse's body language and subtle cues. This allows the rider to better communicate with the horse and make adjustments in their riding to improve the horse's performance. In dressage, precision is crucial, and being able to read and respond to the horse's body language can greatly enhance the precision and fluidity of the movements.

The last benefit I'll throw at you of incorporating natural horsemanship into dressage training is the focus on building a horse's physical and mental fitness over time. Natural horsemanship trainers understand the importance of working with the horse's individual strengths and weaknesses, and tailoring the training to suit each horse. This approach can help prevent injuries and create a strong and athletic equine partner, which is essential for successful dressage.

While I accredit my success with young horses to this, I strongly believe that all dressage horses can greatly benefit from a training philosophy rooted in natural horsemanship.

I absolutely love getting update photo's 😍
Earlier this year, Emily Fuller Burney brought her AQHA Filly Easter here to be started under saddle. I quickly fell in love with this remarkable girl - she's smart, super athletic, and eager to please. Without a doubt, her future will be bright under Emily and I'm lucky to have a front row seat!

NCDCTA Championships did not disappoint. Always such wonderful, well thought out venues that we are so fortunate to have access to!

Serina Tart and Rock Royale RSW🦄 🇺🇸 wrapped up the year earning NCDCTA 3rd Level AA Champion and Freestyle 3rd place, securing their 2nd consecutive NCDCTA Horse of the Year standing. Brilliant! 👏👏
