One of these days I'll get this back on track. I hear a lot of stuff that has been said about this rescue and it is depressing that people who do this are so shallow. Over the years we have heard a lot and have just let it go but now it is time to act.
The rescue has been called a bird hoarder at a time when the fires were raging, and people were losing their homes and had to find places for their pets and themselves. I took in over 170 birds and cared for them and fed them free until people had a place they could take them home again.
Then an older man and his grandson came to the rescue and wanted to adopt a macaw for the grandson and I refused. I will not sell the large birds to children or for children simply because they will get bitten at some point. A friend of the boy may do something they shouldn't and get hurt.
If people can't understand the fact that the care and handing of these beautiful birds is my goal. Most of the birds have been through enough. The birds come first and get the vet care needed, the proper feed and they are family here.
I have underaged kids calling all the time wanting a macaw or cockatoo and say it's for their dad. If your dad wants a large bird, he has to call me himself and he will have to demonstrate that he knows how to handle them safely.
