High Plains Humane Society

High Plains Humane Society "THE GREATNESS OF A SOCIETY AND ITS MORAL PROGRESS CAN BE JUDGED BY THE WAY ITS ANIMALS ARE TREATED." As part of the program, each pet is spayed or neutered.

High Plains Humane Society works in Curry County and the surrounding areas to reduce animal cruelty, exploitation and neglect. We advocate for sensible public policies that bring forth positive changes in our community, and we educate the general public on the importance of being responsible pet owners. We are constantly striving to make this world a better place for our furry friends, and we netw

ork with other organizations who share our beliefs. We established a continual, low-income spay and neuter program in the community for pet owners who could not otherwise afford this service. Sterilization is the key to solving the region's over-population and excessively high euthanasia numbers. We partner with veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and their staff to provide quality care for each pet. Additionally they are given important vaccinations to prevent illness and the spreading of diseases, and a microchip to assist in getting a pet back home if it ever becomes lost.

Do you have a few hours a week to help us take and share pictures of the shelter pets? For over 10 years HPHS has been taking daily pictures to assist the Clovis Shelter with getting the animals seen, to help them be reunited with their family, be adopted or rescued. These pictures have helped save countless lives over the years. Volunteers have moved or changed jobs and we are running on empty. Our remaining picture volunteers are doing their best to be there daily but with work conflicts, some days cannot always make it. Suppose we cannot find a couple of enthusiastic, reliable picture volunteers, who love to help the animals. Unfortunately, we may no longer be able to take and share daily pictures. If you can help us help the animals please message us.

People, keep your dogs contained! A dog attacked some chickens N of Clovis on Springfield Dr. today. If anyone knows whose black or dark brown lab-type dog was loose in the area of Springfield today killing chickens please report it to the Curry County Sheriff. This dog did not appear to be a starving dog, it did not eat them, it was chasing chickens and took off back over the fence when the family ran outside to stop the dog from attacking more birds or livestock.

OWNER RECLAIMS: Take proof of ownership to reclaim, veterinary records, and/or pictures. Do not delay, your pet has limited time and is dependent on you to pick them up promptly. Reclaim costs vary depending on proof of current rabies shot, city license, spay/neuter, microchip, and days at the shelter.
ADOPTIONS: Animals are available on a first come first serve basis for adoption. Shelter policy does not permit holding an animal for any specific individual. Animals have limited time for adoption once available depending on space available so act quickly. Your new pet will be microchipped and registered with the adopter before leaving the shelter. Vetting is mandatory and will be enforced.
RESCUES: 501c3 rescues can pull animals on the euthanasia list for no charge with a rescue agreement with the city. Strays, surrenders, and animals coming from protective custody are available for adoption to the public, and then for rescue. If interested in tagging an animal contact the shelter by phone or email during business hours, after hours by email, email will document a tag on an animal and pull date. We highly recommend that out-of-area rescues work with a local rescue to coordinate prompt pick-up and transportation. The shelter will not hold, they require immediate pick-up.
GENERAL INFORMATION and AVAILABILITY:
Strays are held 3 days for reclaim by an owner. (5 Days with ID), then placed for adoption.
Owner surrenders, or animals exiting protective custody are available for immediate adoption.
If interested in adoption or rescue, call the shelter directly and express your interest in that animal. Time is of the essence. They may hold an animal from the euthanasia list if contacted by someone considering adoption/rescue, but only if prompt pickup is arranged.
After hours, leave a message on voicemail, and/or send an email, and be sure to mention the ID number and your contact information.

Our Story

High Plains Humane Society works in Curry County and the surrounding areas to reduce animal cruelty, exploitation and neglect. We advocate for sensible public policies that bring forth positive changes in our community, and we educate the general public on the importance of being responsible pet owners. We are constantly striving to make this world a better place for our furry friends, and we network with other organizations who share our beliefs. We established a continual, low-income spay and neuter program in the community for pet owners who could not otherwise afford this service. Sterilization is the key to solving the region's over-population and excessively high euthanasia numbers. We partner with local veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and their staff to provide quality care for each pet. As part of the program, each pet is spayed or neutered. Additionally they are given important vaccinations to prevent illness and the spreading of diseases, and a microchip to assist in getting a pet back home if it ever becomes lost.
