Can't say this enough! More dogs get lost, injured orcworse around the 4th. Be prepared for fireworks and your dogs reaction. Many things you can do from thunder shirts, supplements, even vet can help prepare. Don't wait!

Prepare for dogs and fireworks. Especially if you will be out of the home. Crates if you're dog is used to them and might panic and become distructive. Have lots of noise in house, TV, fans etc.

This is the biggest reasons dogs get out of yard, get lost or hurt.
Thundershirts are great for some. Available at pet stores.

Try things out. Don't wait for the 4th.

Careful where and when you walk your dog. New Mexico weather can get crazy hot, especially on dogs feet in the summer!

Great advice!! Practice ANYTHING your dog may have to experience their whole life. Practice nail trimming, brushing, getting in and out of your tub, the car... people ringing your doorbell .. dont wait to struggle in the things they need to get used to. Nails for example, Don't expect perfection and acceptance without practice. Hold a foot, reward.. STOP! another day try holding same foot and a toe. STOP. Touch foot then toe with some metal. Reward.. STOP. Etc!! Don't continue until dog freaks.. try to avoid holding down, fighting and getting all toes trimmed. This just adds stress to each time you try to trim nails! This makes it worse. Training isn't JUST obedience commands. It having a dog you will enjoy living with!!
