Vinnie is a sweet gelding who spent some time with me this winter for a tune up.
He is a very willing and forward horse with a great work ethic, so much so that he couldn’t figure out why anyone would want to stand at the mounting block when there was riding out there to do! One of our big goals for Vinnie was for him to learn to have patience at the mounting block.
We also spent a lot of time helping Vinnie learn how to think through situations and trust his rider for instructions.
I’m looking forward to riding with Vinnie and his owner Charles Myers as we put those lessons to practice on the trails this spring!

Obstacles with Moon and Sue Nov 2024
Will any of the horses I work with ever come across large stuffed monkeys hanging in the trees along a trail or in an arena? Probably not. Then why do I like to expose my horses to obstacles like that?
I’ll never be able to expose a horse to all of the things they might possibly see in life, but I can teach them to think through problems. Navigating the obstacles teaches them to listen, even when they’re uncertain or uncomfortable. So when they come across something they’ve never seen before they don’t get upset, because they understand that if I’m asking them to do it there is a way through.
The horses shown in the video are Moon, owned by Christina Salerno and Sue, owned by Sue Bourque.
Moon went on a field trip! She is a two year old quarter horse filly owned by Christina Salerno and here to get a good start under saddle. I love taking the young horses on adventures to help them learn more about hauling and being worked in new environments.
Thank you, Christina, for trusting me with your girl!

I specialize in starting young horses with a solid foundation for a future in ranch pleasure/riding, western dressage, trail riding and family horses.
Below is a video of one of my recent colts with 5 months of training.
- 90 day minimum for starting under saddle.
- Also offer groundwork for younger horses not ready to start under saddle.
- Horses for tune-ups or finish training are considered on a case by case basis.
I have trained for six years under Jesse Westfall from Westfall Horsemanship where I learned to train horses and reach competitive goals without compromising respect for the horse. I continue to work with Jesse regularly, improving skills and training my personal reining horses.

Sue is still learning a lot and getting better every day. This week, we went to the Win-Seek Fallen Pines Equestrian Center’s Indoor Mountain Trail Course and had a great time. We also went to a local show to experience some heavy make-up arena traffic.
Here’s a shortened clip of his updated sale video. I’ll add a link to the complete video in the comments.
Sue could be yours in just a little over a week!

Smokin Boy Named Sue September 22 update
Sue had another busy week with some trail riding, arena time and obstacle work.
He loves being on the trail and is becoming even more confident with steep hills, rocks and logs, narrow trails, water crossings and bridges.
Sue’s first question for every obstacle is, “Can I eat it?” He is very curious about new things and so much fun to work with. (In case you are wondering, Sue wants you to know that pool noodles don’t taste great, but if you pick up a baby pool and shake it like mad you can get quite the fun reaction from the old horses in the pasture!)
In the arena we’ve continued to fine tune his steering and speed control. We have also been working on collection and lots of transitions. He has a great, ground covering trot and a very comfortable lope!
The Horseman’s Mission is approaching quickly!
If you’re interested in Sue and have any questions, or want to schedule a preview meeting with him, let me know!

We stopped by the ice cream shop this weekend while out for a trail ride at White Star Park.
Smokin Boy Named Sue Aug 18
This week Sue has been learning about hip control and lateral movement. He is very willing and easy to adjust. His leg yield and other lateral work will be beautiful! We also hit the the trails at Mohican State Park where we navigated hills, water crossings, and vehicle traffic with ease. Sue is truly one of a kind and is such a good boy.

Sue has had a busy couple of weeks. He tagged along to the last Central Ohio Reining Association show of the year last weekend. As usual, he was wonderful. We really appreciated having the big spaces to work in there. This weekend we also learned that Sue LOVES cows. Thank you CRC Ranch Horses for having us at your Intro to Cattle Clinic! Both Sue and I got to play with cows for the first time and had a blast. Sue exceeded my expectations! He was quiet and confident as usual, but more than willing to chase the cows. Sue would love to do that again!

Sue kicked off his return to work by tagging along to a three day reining show and then finished the week at the Ottawa County Fair pull-in show. In between we got a lot of riding done outdoors in the beautiful weather and even a short trail ride.
You may notice he also transitioned to a curb bit. While some horses are happy in a snaffle their whole lives, I want Sue to be as versatile as possible, which includes being ridden one-handed in a curb bit for ranch shows. He adjusted very quickly and is looking great.
Thank you Triple Crown Feeds, Centerra Co-op, and AMW Equine Services for your sponsorship and support! A special thanks to Augusta at AMW Equine for not only taking great care of his feet, but also bringing out the BEMER to help speed along his healing and keep him feeling great even with stall rest.

Smokin Boy Named Sue Week 6
Sue is really fun to have in the barn! He will stand ground tied for as long as I ask and comes right up to the mounting block. He has been doing great with training in the arena and is also happy to go outside for a ride in the pasture. Nothing bothers this boy!
