Ready for an evening that will challenge your mind and stir your soul?
HART Theatre invites you to experience the electrifying courtroom drama Inherit the Wind—a play that's as thought-provoking today as it was when it first captivated audiences in 1955.
Inherit the Wind delves into the legendary Scopes "Monkey" Trial, a landmark case that pitted science against religion in a battle over the teaching of evolution in public schools. With its gripping narrative and powerful dialogue, this drama doesn't just recount history—it invites you to question, to think, and to engage in a timeless debate about intellectual freedom and the pursuit of truth.
Our stage comes alive with a stellar cast, including Andrew Beachum as the fearless Henry Drummond, Pasquale LaCorte as the formidable Matthew Harrison Brady, and Kathy O’Connor bringing her wit to the role of journalist Hornbeck. Jim Gauntt shines as The Judge, Troy Sheets as the passionate Reverend Brown, Mary Weisberger as his daughter Rachel, Charlie Wilson as Bertram Cates, the man on trial, and Steve Lloyd returns to the HART stage as the Mayor. The cast is rounded out with an incredible ensemble of actors including Toby Atwood, Grizel Gonzalez-Jeuck, Cat Rondeau, Audrey Savitt, Eliya Sharp, Garek & Nora Carpenter, Vicki Mangieri, Mike Bailey, Suzanne Berryhill, Emmy-Mae Speakman, and Jim Zinsler. Under the direction of the visionary Terry Martin, these actors will transport you back to a time of great social and scientific upheaval.
Terry Martin, our director, says it best: “Inherit the Wind is more than a historical drama; it is a story about the right to think and the courage to challenge accepted norms. Our production aims to highlight the timeless relevance of this debate and to encourage our audience to reflect on the importance of free thought and inquiry in today's society.”
