K-9 Curriculum

K-9 Curriculum Dog training, grooming, nails and Dog toys and treats. Hi. My name is Lisa Monteith. I am the Owner, Trainer and Groomer at K-9 Curriculum, Inc.
(54)

I am a certified pet trainer and certified pet groomer. I am trained in Pet First Aid and CPR so whether your dog is training with me or being groomed they will be in good hands. I am a life-long animal lover and dog enthusiast. My motto is "The Best Things in Life Are Furry!" I was born in Asheville, North Carolina and raised in Glenville, North Carolina. I learned my love for animals from my Mom

and Dad. I have always dreamed of training and working with animals and thought its time to bring those dreams to life. I enrolled in the Penn Foster Grooming Program and the Dog Obedience Training Program at Animal Behavior College and here we go. . . When you think about all the dangers your dog could be exposed to in this world, it is hard to believe that the leading cause of dogs being surrendered to shelters and/or ultimately euthanized is behavior problems. Having a good relationship with your dog from the beginning, whether you get them as a puppy or adopt an older dog from a shelter is extremely important. K-9 Training Classes go along way to help you get this relationship off on the right paw.

Our own Eliya Sharp will be performing in Inherit the Wind! Go check it out at Hart Theatre. Info below . . .

Ready for an evening that will challenge your mind and stir your soul?
HART Theatre invites you to experience the electrifying courtroom drama Inherit the Wind—a play that's as thought-provoking today as it was when it first captivated audiences in 1955.

Inherit the Wind delves into the legendary Scopes "Monkey" Trial, a landmark case that pitted science against religion in a battle over the teaching of evolution in public schools. With its gripping narrative and powerful dialogue, this drama doesn't just recount history—it invites you to question, to think, and to engage in a timeless debate about intellectual freedom and the pursuit of truth.

Our stage comes alive with a stellar cast, including Andrew Beachum as the fearless Henry Drummond, Pasquale LaCorte as the formidable Matthew Harrison Brady, and Kathy O’Connor bringing her wit to the role of journalist Hornbeck. Jim Gauntt shines as The Judge, Troy Sheets as the passionate Reverend Brown, Mary Weisberger as his daughter Rachel, Charlie Wilson as Bertram Cates, the man on trial, and Steve Lloyd returns to the HART stage as the Mayor. The cast is rounded out with an incredible ensemble of actors including Toby Atwood, Grizel Gonzalez-Jeuck, Cat Rondeau, Audrey Savitt, Eliya Sharp, Garek & Nora Carpenter, Vicki Mangieri, Mike Bailey, Suzanne Berryhill, Emmy-Mae Speakman, and Jim Zinsler. Under the direction of the visionary Terry Martin, these actors will transport you back to a time of great social and scientific upheaval.

Terry Martin, our director, says it best: “Inherit the Wind is more than a historical drama; it is a story about the right to think and the courage to challenge accepted norms. Our production aims to highlight the timeless relevance of this debate and to encourage our audience to reflect on the importance of free thought and inquiry in today's society.”
Check out the extended interview with Terry Martin and Candice Dickinson here!

This is a theatrical event you won't want to miss! Mark your calendars for our performances running from August 9 through August 25. Whether you're a lover of history, a fan of gripping drama, or just someone who loves a good story, Inherit the Wind has something incredible to offer for everyone.

Friends Fill the Gaps at Haywood County Animal Services

Haywood County commissioners approved the budget, allocating funds for Haywood County Animal Services (HCAS). However, with increasing numbers of animals entering the shelter, some essential needs fall outside the standard government budget. That's where the Friends of Haywood County Animal Shelter steps in.

The Friends is a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of animals at HCAS. Their fundraising allows them to provide enrichment items, additional medical care, and even adoption promotions that go beyond what the government budget can cover.

"Thanks to the Friends, we can offer comfy beds, stimulating toys, and even treats for the animals," says Howie Martin, Director of HCAS. "These little extras make a big difference in reducing stress and helping animals feel more at home while they wait for their forever families."

Friends Provide Advanced Medical Care

In addition to enrichment items, the Friends also play a vital role in supporting the medical well-being of animals at HCAS. Their contributions have helped provide essential medical equipment for the shelter's Surgical Team, allowing them to perform a wider range of procedures in-house, including spay/neuter surgeries. This not only benefits the animals by reducing stress and expediting their recovery, but also helps control the local animal population.

New Fees for Owner Surrenders

The commissioners also approved a new fee for owners surrendering their pets. It's important to distinguish this from animals picked up as strays. Strays are found wandering without identification and are held for a period to allow the owner to reclaim them.

The new fee applies to owners who relinquish ownership of their pets. This helps offset the cost of caring for these animals until they are adopted.

"We understand that sometimes people need to rehome their pets," says Howie Martin, "The surrender fee helps ensure we have the resources to provide these animals with the best possible care while they transition to new homes.”

Looking for Your Lost Pet?

HCAS encourages anyone who has lost a pet to visit the shelter as soon as possible. They recommend checking the "Lost Pets" section of the HCAS website https://www.haywoodcountync.gov/154/Animal-Services and contacting the shelter immediately.

💜Staff pick: Violet💜

Pictured here is Violet with our events coordinator, Ellyse!

Ellyse has a passion for aiding non-profits and organizations! She also has a soft spot for animals in need. She's been an animal lover all of her life. She is so excited to help with our adoption and community events!

She particularly loves Violet, here's why;
"Violet has the sweetest nature and is the best company to have around. Between being busy on important phone calls and diving into work, Violet is more than capable of entertaining herself or taking a nap. She even skips around the office with a toy and just likes to make me smile. She'd be perfect for someone who works from home and is looking for an office companion. It's also nice that she's housebroken since my office is on the smaller side. Plus, she minds her manners with my event materials, too! She lets me eat my lunch in peace, but of course she gets a few snacks with a face like that! I can't leave out my Vi-vi! The only thing better than sharing my work day with her would be to see her in a loving home."

STILL LOVE THIS

In case someone needs to read this today:

The social pressure to have a perfect dog is real, as is the allure of a quick fix. To all of you who have chosen and committed to humanely and patiently working with your dogs in spite of all this, I see you.

Your dog is an individual whose progress will never look exactly like someone else's.

Progress can be slow.
Progress is never linear.
Setbacks are normal.
Your dog is doing the best they can.
You're doing the best you can.
And this is all more than OK.

Keep doing what you're doing.
Reinforce yourself!
Take a break.
Do something fun with your dog this weekend.
Love the dog in front of you ❤️
