Say Hi to RIP 🐾🩵

MEET RIP: We’d like to introduce you to the newest Rockford Police Department K-9, Rip! Rip was purchased through donations received by the Friends of Rockford Police K-9 Unit. He’s a two-year-old Dutch Shepherd/Belgian Malinois Mix and will be starting K-9 certification school with Officer Vargas next week. Thank you to all of you for your donations!

K9 Officers are so important 💙 🐾 🖤

🐾 GOOD DOG, ENZO 🐾 On the evening of February 19, McHenry County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a report of a missing young teen. The young teen was missing for 2 hours while their family searched. Once called, K9 Enzo and his handler were able to quickly locate the child in bushes near the residence and the young teen was safely returned to their family without incident.

END OF WATCH: Our hearts are broken as we mourn the line-of-duty death of our K-9 Officer Nyx, who was killed yesterday, January 28, 2024, in pursuit of a suspect.

"K-9 Nyx paid the ultimate sacrifice while serving and protecting this community. I ask that you all keep K-9 Officer Vargas, the entire K-9 Unit, and Nyx in your thoughts and prayers," says Chief of Police Carla Redd. "K-9 Nyx is family and we are truly thankful for her service to the Rockford Police Department."
