Niabi Zoo Fennec Fox with insect feeder tube
Creating engaging ways to encourage investigation, discovery, choice, change, and complexity are pillars of enhanced welfare and well being through creative enrichment device offerings.
Here, we see some of our Fennec Foxes interacting with an insect feeder tube, made in-house to catalyze species typical behaviors. They puzzle out the device, pushing it to drop out mealworms. Good job to our animal care team for continuously creating these engaging environments!

Niabi Zoo Prairie Dog with duck decoy enrichment
Enrichment in silent Action!
We incorporate many types of enrichment each day...some being multi-purpose. In this case we have a duck decoy device for not only physical interaction but visual as well....just the little sniffs and close inspection by the one dog ellicits the "change" in the environment we were going for as a target bevavior.
This illustrates in a simple way the changes both subtle and overt that would occur in their natural spaces.
Niabi Zoo Giraffe utilizing slow feeder ball device
No More Bowls!!

He of course also has numerous other stations in his barn to obtain hay, other pellet diet, approved produce and of course his browse branches. You are doing an excellent job buddy!

Niabi Zoo Green Tree Python getting a drink
Green Tree Pythons (GTP) drape themselves amongst the tree branches in rainforests of New Guinea, Indonesia (eastern) and NE Cape York Peninsula of Australia. They prefer high humidity which of course creates alot of extra moisture on the leaves of the trees around them, but also on thier own body scales.
Our animal welfare program incorporates proper biotic conditions for our animals that include raising humidity levels using misting devices such as drippers, timed misters and simple mist bottles along with a water source.
Here we see one of our GTPs take a nice long drink from one of his coils during a high humidity peak in his habitat.
