Hey Schoharie County, have you seen Ziggy? He went missing from Crommie Road in Carlisle sometime last month. He's a regular visitor to the sanctuary (he is a friend & neighbor's cat, not one of ours). Any information on his whereabouts would be more than appreciated!

I’m sure that many of you have noticed Bess’s giant ear tag dangling from her right ear. It’s quite hard to miss a giant, orange, seemingly uncomfortable hunk of plastic imposing on her radiant beauty.

We decided that it was finally time to remove it.
Why did it take us so long?
Well, we have heard many varying opinions on whether to remove it or not. Some that even scared us.

This giant, orange rectangle haunted me every time I would look into her beautiful eyes. I felt like I was failing her. Like I wasn’t seeing her for who she was.

Bess, you will never be a number. You are SOMEONE, not SOMETHING. The hole left behind may be a reminder of your dark past, but it says nothing about your beautiful future, sweet girl. ❤️🐷

And yes, Bingo got hers removed as well 🐷💪🏻💛

Lux departed from Earth this evening. 💔

We didn’t expect to travel home without her. It actually wasn’t even a thought in our minds. Her condition was much worse than we thought. She had multiple birth deformities, making surgery to repair the leg not viable. Amputation in a chicken so young would have likely led to a secondary infection, leading to more stress, more pain, and unnecessary suffering for Lux. She was in a lot of pain and we feel confident in our decision to let her go, under the guidance of a very knowledgeable avian specialist.

Lennie, who often gets stressed when separated from Lux, didn’t make a peep on the drive home. She knows. 🐥🐥🥺

Lux, I’m sorry you had to leave so soon. You were not “just a chicken”. You were so, so loved. I hope Moby met you up there. Rest easy, sweet girl 🐥💜

And to think that she was going to be disposed of. You rock, Copper! Thank you Cuddle Buddies for sharing Copper’s story...

This little chicken absolutely loves playing the guitar with her rescuer! When Copper arrived at Mini Mountain Farm, she had an injured leg and was very sick...

Georgio update!

We did it! Tomorrow is the day!
Georgio gets to come HOME! 🏡🐷🩵

We went from a nearly lifeless piglet, to a lively, curious, ball of snorts and snoots in less than a week. Driving Georgio to Cornell on Saturday night was a scary journey. We were checking frequently to see if he was even still breathing. We finally gave up on that and he became a lap pig for the rest of the drive. He was THAT lifeless.

When we got to Cornell, we got more discouraging news. He was in bad shape and it wasn’t guaranteed that he would make it through the night. But this spunky boy pulled through and continued to get better by the day. 💪🏻🐷

He’s eating, drinking, passing manure, and is back to his perky, bright self. We’re still waiting on one last f***l float to see if any further deworming is needed. Other than that, Georgio has a clean bill of health!

Thank you, thank you, thank you for being the army behind Georgio’s healing and for rooting for our little dude. He made quite the impression on everyone at Cornell and I’m not sure his doctors will give him up. 😜🐷🩵

Georgio update!

This update has us feeling all kinds of emotions. Georgio is showing so much improvement. He’s off of his re**al fluids and has been successfully taking in water on his own. His appetite has greatly improved and apparently he has quite the liking for broccoli! 🥦🐷 (sorry if we buy out all the broccoli at the store this week.)
His energy level is increasing by the day and his wonderful doctors even took him on an excursion outside yesterday so our boy could munch on some grass (his favorite thing!) 🥰
We are still cautiously optimistic, as we know that Georgio’s little body is fragile and with how extreme his worm load was, healing can be a roller coaster. He is still passing worms, but he’s been passing manure along with them, which he was not doing before. His doctors think that Georgio may have had a blockage and his dehydration was hindering his ability to pass the blockage. Rehydrating him may have helped him get things moving again.
If things continue in the right direction, we’re looking at a late week discharge! 🎉🐷🩵

That being said, an almost week-long hospital stay is going to be a big bill. We haven’t even reached our goal for the deposit alone. We appreciate each and every one of you that has donated for Georgio! We see you and are so grateful for you 🩵🙏🏻🩵

Thank you for loving our boy and rooting for him. He’s working so hard to heal his little body. Let’s get Georgio home! 💪🏻🐷🩵
