Figure out your personal goals, and then reach them! I haven’t been working with Bear habitually, and IT SHOWS. At the show last night he was exhausted and irritable (very nice, deep sand footing like walking on the beach but not the firm part near the waterline). He’s not as fit as he should have been, and that is the result of me not getting out there and practicing. Without practice, there will be no improvement.

It’s a journey.

Today starts the day of a challenge. What some may not know is I am also a coach of our cross country team at our small school. Today we start a challenge, we challenge our individual kids to do 250 miles beginning July 1st to October 16th. We do it for our team and our family does it also which includes both me and my husband. This challenge is to start to create a new habit for the cross country team and our family on the importance of exercise and mental focus we need in our everyday lives. It includes planning of how many miles need to be done weekly and how 30 minutes out of the day doesn’t seem like much but how important it is.
I only include this to this group because creating new habits with our horses is important. It is so easy to say I have other priority’s to attend to. The time with your horse doesn’t have to be long but it needs to become a habit for horse and rider to enjoy that time together. When we start this journey in running it is hard but becomes that time to reset our mind. I take this into my horse training as well for the horse. This time with my horse is a mental relaxation for them. It is a time for the horse to physically move and mentally focus and relax. A sort of meditative state for horse and rider. It maybe difficult at the beginning of this journey but habits get created and turns into a relaxation.
Enjoy this journey with your horse and create new habits of exercise both physically but mentally exercising as well.
