Today Mom said I’m the goodest pup cuz I walked good with her and my hooman cousin Kendall. I sat when asked, I don’t know why though cuz I thought we were walking🤷🏻‍♀️. I didn’t bark at anyone, not even those bikes that go by really fast. And I didn’t even notice the other dogs walking. They laughed at me cuz I hid behind them when we had to cross the street and there were cars, but I’m just a puppy and that car was scary so I needed protection. I made it nearly 3 whole miles (2.94 to be exact). I like walking so much Mom said I deserve a new collar 😁🐾

Karma’s new patches for her collar.

When people ask to pet my dogs when we’re out and about I usually say no. When I do say no, or they wear patches like this on their collars people assume they are aggressive. They are not. I just want my dogs to focus on me, not every person who walks by.

This makes walks more enjoyable for both of us because my dogs aren’t trying to get to every person or dog we pass along the way. In fact, they don’t even pay attention to others along the way at all.

Now this doesn’t mean my dogs aren’t used to people. They get plenty of love from everyone who visits our home or campsite. Today Popcorn got to greet the Amazon man and get pets and a treat from him. But when we are out in public I prefer they focus on me, and my kids.

Karma takes her job very seriously when we are walking in public, her eyes don’t leave my daughter. If she’s walking in front of us with my fiancé she will check in on my daughter throughout our walk, even stop and go to her side if she hears another dog bark or people are walking towards us. This is what I want for her focus to be.

I really can’t stress enough - It’s okay to tell people no. Your dog is looking to you to be their voice, so don’t let them down.

Also a little side note- I’ve tried the “in training” patches and find that people still ask to approach. The “do not pet” patches seem to be respected a bit more. If you see a dog with patches you should really respect their patch/space.

And in typing that I realize I have the weirdest nicknames for my dogs 😂 But for a while Karma was a beast and so she became “beasty girl” and later “Momma”. Those two have stuck with her.

This isn’t really a training tip, just what works for me and my pack when it’s time for nail trimmings.

How do I make nail trimmings a good experience? With yummy treats, lots of patience and pets between nails, and lots of praise. Rott Karma’s Popcorn is a sucker for praise and pets which makes trimmings mostly easy, once she calms her nub down and settles 😂

🐾Rott Karma’s Brodie Pupdate🐾

Remember the runt of Sage’s first litter? Formerly Mr Nugget?

Well Brodie is adjusting to his forever home nicely. He has a couple of fur siblings and his Dad says he is a social butterfly. He gets to spend his days working with his forever Dad at the gym and getting all the love from everybody who goes in. Lucky boy is now living his best life and we’re so happy to get the pupdates 🥰

Do you know part of socializing your pup is getting them comfortable in different environments with different noises?

Today we have a tree company next door, cutting down trees, putting them through a wood chipper- there are all different types of noises going on.

In a house with 6 dogs this could really be chaos. But we socialize our pups from the day we get them. They quickly get used to the sound of our log splitter, loud music, air compressor, tools, even fireworks.

So today I bring Zeus (just 8wks old) outside while the men are working. I give him the usual bathroom commands and praise him when he goes. He freezes after a large boom, I immediately bend down and call him my way like nothing happened - he comes and gets all the praise. I just continue on like the noise doesn’t exist and he trusts to follow my lead with a little encouragement.

You can easily go on YouTube and search different noises to play so your dog can be exposed to more sounds. 🙂

If you have dogs and have never heard of bloat it’s so important to read up on. Bloat can be life threatening. Slow feeders, smaller meals, and limiting exercise after your dog eats are all ways to lower the risk of bloat.

Mr Zeus is just 8wks 2 days old and has already figured out sitting nicely gets him fed faster. While we are still working on “sit” he now automatically sits when he sees me coming with food or water.

This is something we start when the pups are young as they’re going to the bathroom saying “go pee” and then immediately rewarding with “yes” and a treat. This makes life so much easier when it’s raining or there are distractions.
Karma & Sage were also taught bathroom commands as pups so even if they are in the middle of playing they will stop and go do their business if we ask.

🐾Dog Feeding Recommendations🐾

I’ve had a lot of forever homes ask feeding recommendations. When using kibble each brand of food varies in nutrition. Each bag also comes with feeding instructions based on weight and age. It’s important to check your bag for feeding instructions and not go off online feeding charts based on breed. While I base feedings on the bag recommendations if my dogs have a super active day they may get extra food. If I’m feeding my dogs something along with their kibble they still get the recommended amount of kibble. I do not decrease that because it is the main source of nutrients.

Also most puppy foods recommend switching to adult food between age one and two (varies based on brand). This is super important to make sure you check your food and see which age to switch. If you don’t switch your dog may not be getting the nutrients it needs.

Rott Karma’s Popcorn just enjoying some one on one off leash time. This girl is so good at staying in sight, fetch and that recall 👌

With the weather today I take all dogs out individually and limit outdoor play to avoid heat exhaustion. They also get a little bit more play time in the house where it’s cool. They love this because normally house play is limited.

🐾Rott Karma’s Dean Pupdate🐾

From Karma’s Spooky Six, formerly known as Casper. Dean is loving life with his forever family. He has been enjoying play with his forever kiddos in their new back yard (congratulations guys 🏡) and has been learning boundaries. He’s now figured out when someone is cooking in the kitchen he needs to stay out of the room and Forever Mom says he’ll often lay or sit patiently right at the doorway as seen in this photo. She also tells me he can be hardheaded at times and has a crazy food drive (no doubt he got both those traits from his Momma 😂).

🐾Rott Karma’s Huxley Pupdate🐾

From Sage’s first litter Huxley was formerly known was Frito.

I am so proud of the amazing dog this pup is turning into!
His forever Mom tells me he completed his second level of obedience and now is on to intermediate obedience. He has achieved his AKC Star Puppy and the end goal is his AKC Canine Good Citizen title.

Forever Mom also tells me “he has the absolute best temperament we’ve ever had in a puppy.”

Great boy Huxley! Keep up the good work.

Xena has been an interesting addition to the family. She is not as confident as my rotts all have been, but she loves people just as much. She was sooo much easier to crate and house train and has basically been since the day she came home. As far as other training she knows “sit” and “lay down” and does well with recall and being off leash, but she has no desire to do any command training (quite like Sage never did so I’m not really worried).
While she’s only about 25lbs she fits right in with the rest of the pack. Her and Popcorn are best friends and Sage and Karma are so gentle with her.

My sweet Sage 🥰

When we got this sweet girl I was over prepared. Her sister Karma was my first Rottweiler. She had high drive and was very food driven. We trained several times a day, every day or she would be destructive.

Not all dogs are the same.

Sage was not food motivated at all. She was much lower energy and would often just lay on the floor like “you’re kidding me” every time I tried to work with her. Sage was quite content from day one just laying by your side and getting all the love.

Same breed, same father, totally different personalities and drive.

I wouldn’t trade either of them. 🥰

The best advice I can give anyone getting a puppy is to hand feed, hand feed with any young children in your lap, pet them during feedings and get them comfortable eating in different places.

The video shows me just petting Rott Karma’s Popcorn as she drinks and praising her. I want her to know it’s ok. Why? So I don’t have to worry if one of my kids happens to brush by her while she eats.

The photo shows Adalyn (my teens 2yr old dog) with Sage (2.5) sharing a bowl of water earlier today.

A little bit of work goes along way. And I don’t stop doing this as my dogs get older. I do this throughout their lives so it’s something that is always normal to them.

Bath day for the puppers. Rott Karma’s Popcorn thinks she’s at the spa and lays right down as soon as I get her in. Xena on the other hand, she’s still unsure but warming up to them. She stands nicely, but usually starts her bath crying 🥺 until she remembers it’s not so bad.
