Paws and Claws Animal Hospital Boarding Information, Protocol & Charges
Pick up & Drop off Protocol
We are open for pickup and drop off during our normal business hours only. We do ask that your pet be dropped off at least 30 minutes before closing so we have time to get them set up, let them outside and feed them.
Vaccination Requirements
We require your dog to be current on a negative stool sample screening and a Bordetella Vaccine (kennel cough) with in the past 6 months. For example, if it is July 1st and your pet had a stool sample and Bordetella vaccine on January 1st, they are now overdue, and we will require them to have that repeated before boarding with us. All vaccinations must be done at least 10 days before boarding, so we can ensure your pet has had enough time to properly build immunity from their vaccinations. If you are unable to meet those requirements and we have availability, we do offer boarding in Isolation. Your pet will still need to receive the vaccinations it is due for, but there will be an additional charge of $15.00 per day on top of the regular boarding charges. Your pets’ accommodation will be a bit different in isolation, as they will be staying in spare rooms away from the boarding area. They will not have exposure to any other dogs. If your pet is staying with us longer than the 10 days, we will move them to the common boarding area on the 11th day if there is availability. We also require them to be current on a Rabies 1 or 3 year and DHPP 1- or 3-year vaccine along with flea and tick prevention. Cats are a little simpler as they are kept in our Cat Condo which is spare exam rooms. We do require them to be current on a Rabies and RCP vaccination.
Boarding Charges
Charges work like hotels; you are charged for the day you drop off no matter what time it is. You are not charged for the day you pick up if it is before 2:00pm, any animal picked up 2:00pm or after will be charged an additional day. The charges are based on your pets’ weight and are as follows below……
Dogs 0-25lbs = $30.00
Dogs 26-70lbs = $35.00
Dogs 71lbs & over = $38.00
Cats = $28.00
Bathing
We do offer free baths, nail trims, and a**l sac expression for any pet that stays longer than 7 days, but you must let us know that you elect to have your pet bathed. If your pet is not staying for at least 7 days to receive a free bath, but you still want your pet bathed we will do that for you, but the following charges will apply…. (prices effective 8/1/21)
Dogs weighing 1-20lbs = $35.00
Dogs weighing 21-50lbs = $38.00
Dogs weighing 51lbs or more = $42.00
Cat Baths = $32.00
We also recommend not picking up before 10:00am if you choose to have your pet bathed as they may still be wet from their bath.
Medications
We do administer medications. Any pet that physically must be medicated whether it is an injection, orally or topically will be assessed a Boarding Medication Per day charge of $5.00. We do have a select few patients that the owners pre-sort their food in bags and the oral medications are in the labeled food bags and we do not physically have to medicate them, they will not be charged if their pet consumes the medication.
Extra Time
We do not charge for additional play or potty time. Your pet will be let out no less than 3 times a day and will receive one on one time with a staff member during that time. If the weather is nice and your pet loves it outside we will let them out during our lunch break where we can supervise them from a large window and they will be let out several times alternating between all the boarders.
Boarding Stress Communications & Options
We obviously would never want to turn away business, however some patients do stress easily with boarding. Even with us trying to keep it as much like home as possible, it is just not. For those more nervous patients we do recommend a trial of day boarding or even an overnight stay to determine if your pet will likely handle an extended boarding stay. There are things we can try to lessen their stress level, such as bringing an old shirt with the owner’s scent on it, toys that help keep us busy, and we even have DAP Diffusers plugged in, in boarding. Even with all these things some patients do break with loose stool or choose to not eat well. We will always keep you updated if we have any concerns during their stay.
Food & Treats
Food is recommended to be brought from home with your pet. This is the best option for their stay to help decrease their chance of GI upset. Please let us know if your pet is on a limited food or prescription food. We will feed them like you do at home. You are also welcome to bring their treats and we will use them as well.
